On the left side you have timing inspection window which is used for positioning the piston at TDC

When you look inside it you will see the Alternator's rotor which has various markings(Like T for TDC)
If you are hearing sounds from that side open the plastic cap on the left side of the crank and hear for any rattling
If you are sure the noise is coming through there then take it ASAP to a mechanic
There can be some bolt loose inside it which can cause serious damage to the engine

Also opening the left side of crankcase won't require you to drain your engine oil
On the left side there is the alternator and some gears which
couple the starter motor

And don't worry if you only want to adjust tappets you can take it to any mechanic
Provided he uses a feeler gauge and proper tools ...

Intake valve clearance is 0.05mm
For exhaust valve it is 0.1 mm
After the after the adjustment try to kick start the bike
If the kick is harder than earlier then the tappets are set properly
Thanks mate. The issue is resolved now. I had a bad rockerarm, clutch starter and kit starter which are replaced now. Magneto gasket cover was also changed. All I need to do is switch to a new and better oil, Motul 5100, 15W50. The total bill along with labour charges came to Rs. 1620. Here is the breakup:

Clutch Starter - Rs. 611
Kit Starter - Rs. 78
Gasket Cover Magneto - Rs. 32
Rockerarm Assembly - Rs. 294.50 x 2 =Rs. 589
Paste - Rs. 60
Labour Charges - Rs. 250

Grand Total = Rs. 1620.

Apparently when I was test riding the bike after the work, my rear tyre got a nasty puncture, its first in 2.8 years and it killed the rear tube. Had to change it, so Rs. 180 for rear tube and Rs. 20 for fitment.

Valves and head are good for another 20-30K kms, tappets were adjusted too when rockerarms were replaced.

Hey Guys,

Need some help with deciding on new tyres for my P 150 ug4.5. The current one's are stock Zapper FS at the front and Zapper C at the back. I've coverd almost 33k kms with these tyres and they're starting to loose grip now. In fact, I've been doing more skidding than riding lately. I'm a complete noob when it comes to tyres. My Current requirements are:-
1) Better grip than the current stock. (both wet and dry)
2) Reliability. The stock tyres were pretty reliable over the 33k kms and i barely had 2-3 punctures.
3) Bigger size. I would like to upgrade to a bigger rear tyre as long as there are no modifications involved involved like removing chain cover.
4) Budget. Strict budget of 4.5K

Looking forward to all your suggestions and especially maadyy

There is a tradeoff here that you must understand.

If you want more grip in both wet and dry conditions, you must get a tyre with soft compound properties. And going for a soft compound is by default going to give you lesser life and is more susceptible to punctures owing to it's softer nature, so the "reliability" factor that you are searching for is trade-off for the grip you are searching for.

Upsizing by single size shouldn't be a problem, I am guessing a 120 cross section tyre wouldn't need any modifications to fit in, but you wil have slight dip in accelaration(not much noticeable) and a small drop if FE , as the upsized tyre is bound to be more heavy than the stock tyres

Cheers

I am trying to put up the best combination as per my experience in progressive order:

1. Pirelli Sport Demon 100 for front and 120 for rear. (tube less) Around 6.5k
2. Michelin Pilot Sporty 100 for front MRF Vyde/Pirelli SD 120 for rear. (tube less) Around 4-5k
3. Michelin Pilot Sporty 100 for front Michelin Pilot Sporty 120 for rear. (tube less) Around 4- 4.5k

Strictly avoid :
Contigo, TVS, Dunlop Tuffgrip. (I don't have a good experience with TVS in front , Dunlop Tuffgrip at rear and Contigo never used but came to know from other users that it doesn't provide a very good feedback.)

Tyre price is right but 1800 for that battery is quite more i've asked here and it is available at around 1400. Where do you live ?

Following a minor operation that Casstiel underwent, I was suggested by seniors to change the oil to a new and better one. I was using Petronas Syntium 15W50 and had done 2800 kms with still some 1000-1200kms life left but better safe than sorry.

So I got a new can of Motul 5100 15W50 Semi Syn. I did the filter cleaning, chain cleaning+lubing and oil change yesterday by myself (proud to do that actually ) and the two things that caught my attention are : 1. Motul is a bit thicker than Petronas, grade being the same and 2. Motul smells like Ariel/Surf Excel mixed with water, kinda funny but unlike anything I have used. Like it.

Now, the gearshifts are smoother, the engine has calmed down with reduced noises, not sure about the engine heat but I believe it should be under control too. Yet to take it to city to check how it holds up. Cheers brothers.

Air filter it is, cleaning the oil filter(Centrifugal) is a bit of a tedious task, with having to open the clutch side cover for the process.

Apparently there is no oil filter as such in P150. The one you have mentioned actually gets cleaned up during complete servicing. I was just looking for that confirmation. Thanks for the info bro.

Yeah. I guess you can't have the best of both worlds. However reliability occupies a higher place on my list than cornering. In fact the stock MRF's haven't been too bad at cornering and I've managed a few foot peg scrapes with them. But they perform very badly in the wet. I'm wondering whether to stick to stock MRF's and just increase the sizing for better cornering. Don't mind a marginal drop in acceleration and mileage.

3500? That sounds reasonable! Are you based in Mumbai? If you are could you let me know where and how long back did you get them.

Maddy, Let me search up a thread for you, it shows detailed explanation on how to clean the "oil filter".

There is indeed a system for filtering oil.
