  • thanks for summing it up.

now back to speculating the top speeds of our favourite bikes.

    • comparing Ninja to CBR is totally wrong because Ninja will beat CBR in each gear and in acceleration as well as Top speed figures...no surprise the Ninja costs double the amount of upcoming CBR...

it will be better if we stop comparing and talk about CBR only.....

      • Did I miss something between the balls and the bikes? I think this thread needs to be closed until we have more info about the CBR as it's getting wildly OT and here I'm searching for some news about the bike itself

I'd like to see if any showrooms have begun keeping one in their shop window, for example. That ways we can have a first hand look.

          • My o my... why bring in the R15 and Ninja, in a thread for CBR? Isnt it somewhat clear to all, looking for INR 1 lac+ premium bikes? I think it is.

Have 1 lac plus and want a sporty bike? Go for R15.
Have 2 lacs plus and want a sporty cum tourer? Wait till Apr '11.
Have 3 lacs plus and want a sporty bike? Head to a Bajaj PBK, without wasting any time comparing these three bike.

But stating that a single will have more torque than a twin of same capacity is like saying that you can reproduce better with just one testicle.
Ok I have had a Ninja, ridden an R15 many a times and have no plans of buying the CBR250R. So I am not biased whatsoever.
A big single WILL HAVE more torque than parallel twin. Why is that being opposed so vehemently here ? The CBR250R does have more torque than the 22Nm that the Ninja250R has. And all that torque will be delivered way in the bottom end as compared to Ninjas 22Nm at 8K rpm.

Thats not saying that big single is the way to go...because its surely not the way to go if u want performance. But its a simple construction engine without any complications and has the torque trump card to lure you.

Thats a fact. I am not theory making.

                • C'mon people... lets stop the comparision...

We do not know much about the CBR250 headed for India (whether detuned or not?) to compare it with the existing (or upcoming) offerings...

And this certainly isn't the place for a R15 vs. Ninja comparo...

Engine torque has nothing to do with bore / stroke or even number of cylinders. Things like bore and stroke basically influence at what RPM the peak torque is produced. There is NO hard and fast rule that a single will have more torque than a twin...even with identical capacities. Anything can be manufactured to desired specifications.

Example - RD350 can deliver 30.5Nm of torque. TZR250 produces 35Nm of torque. So the smaller capacity engine produces more torque?? How is this possible? (I have restricted the examples to 2-strokes and even though they are both twins - I want you to understand that there is more to engine performance than the numbers in a spec-sheet). Also if you compare power output, RD350 tops out at 27bhp (average) and the TZR250 goes to 48bhp despite the smaller engine!

If you throw in the "water cooled" argument then how come a TZ125 SINGLE cylinder can produce around 48bhp as well. Matching the TZR250 parallwl twin?

Where you ARE correct is that although there isn't much difference in the torque figures between the Ninja and CBR. They produce the torque at different RPMs and this influences usability, rideability and the "feel" of the bike.

Don't get caught up in these "theories" - Impossible is nothing!

                      • whoa whoa!!!

what's this about testicles and cylinders. Pls. don't compare the CBR with the Ninja. I own a Ninja and know how it smokes everything else. These 2 machines are totally in a different league of their own.

Let the bike land here at least!
