  • IMHO I dont think there is going to be any engine changes apart from few tweaks and a revamped rear.

Don't you guys think that if yamaha is going to put a 180 CC engine then they will launch a different bike/model like a R-18?? And if they are putting in a bigger engine there will be a nice bump in the price too, so that they can keep the exisitng R-15 in the market as well.

putting a 180CC engine on an existing 150 cc model does not make sense plus i dont think Yamaha is going to mess up with one of their best seller and that to which belongs to the prestigious R series.

If someone says that Yamaha is going to bring a new 180CC model based on R-15 then I might believe it but putting a 180CC on R-15... I can not digest it

We have already seen mails from yamaha back office where they mentioned that new R-15 RVR is going to be launched in Jan so we should wait till this months end.

    • Speculations galore!
      From a 15 bhp R15 to R125&now a 180cc!
My take on this spy pic: It is R15 with the same engine, no power tweaks etc., only cosmetic mods to make the tail section look good.
Fatter tyre could be a 110 section like the Dazzler/RTR 180 but with a softer compound (reason for making the rims even lighter than what they are). Swingarm change could also be possible.
Waiting eagerly for Jan end, as my R15's rear tyre badly needs a replacement!
      Quench my thirst with gasoline!

          exactly!

              • Just back from the Yamaha Service center and this is what the guy working over there had to say. As per the news he has received the 2011 R15 may consist of 3-4 changes quoted by him as Split seats, a new tail lamp assembly and wider rear tyre(did not mention anything about the swingarm changes). He was pretty sure there will be no changes done on the engine. And this what he had to say on the immediate future of Yamaha. The guy responsible for getting R15 and the FZ series in India has quit Yamaha and joined Bajaj as their Asian head(and doing pretty well it seems by releasing the Pulsar range in the SE asian markets). According to him this Japanese guy was responsible for getting the Indian Bikers Pulse spot on and he had 4 platforms ready for India. 2 platforms already exist at present for the FZ series and the R15. The other platform was for a powerful scooter(This may be released in the coming months) and the last platform was for a 250cc bike on the lines of MT-01, something like a mini MT-01(No not a fazer 250 as everone of us thought). Due to this person leaving the company the 250cc bike project is put on hold. And finally he added that Yamaha may nothing to offer(except the scooter) for the next few years except cosmetic changes(something like our midnight special series for FZ) and a few mods(high chances of the mods being non-related to performance).

His name is Mr. Tomotaka Ishikawa, Ex-Yamaha India MD. The man responsible for bringing in the R15 and FZ-16 to India.

Spot on, but MT 03 is a 600+ cc single cylinder mill rite? Do you think Yamaha would have any intentions for that without a 250 or an existing upgrade to it's current R15 to start-off the 600 market?

Not the Pulsar 250cc hopefully but the news is that he has a major role in getting the KTM Duke 200cc(not sure if the cc spec) to India.
