  • re: KTM Duke 390 unveiled with 44 PS & 139 kg dry weight. Killer pricing expected.

Pricing the duke390 anything below 2 lakhs and pulsar375 for 1.5 lakhs will cannibalize duke 200...so the apt thing is to price the duke390 a naked bike around 2.5 lakhs as the ninja300 a faired sportsbike with similar power comes around 3 lakhs....

Considering that the 690 is 150 Kgs dry weight, I think the 390/375 ought to be a lot lighter, 135-140 kgs perhaps.

Imagine the P/W ratio *evil grin*

I doubt the N300 will come for 3 Lakhs. Even the 250 without slipper clutch and 50 less cc costs ~3.25. Expect the N300 - if it comes - to be near the 4L mark.

        • If prices are placed close by,it will be real tough to decide between duke 200,pulsar 375!

          • As someone said, DECREASING the weight of a heavy vehicle is a task indeed but INCREASING its weight from original design hardly takes any effort.

I think more than the naked Duke 390, the bike to watch out for would be the Pulsar 375SS. It would come fully faired (almost confirmed rumor) and hopefully with FI (because for engine of that much displacement FI would have tangible benefits to justify its overhead cost). Fully faired would increase its top speed and stability as well and it (while slower in acceleration) can match the Duke 390 in top speed even with a heavier (I expect ~160-170kg) body, a (hopefully 20 litre) larger fuel tank and a detuned ~35 to 40 PS engine.

Also, why doesn't KTM consider launching faired sports bikes in India ? The 375 engine seems more apt to a sharp handling fully faired bike which would reach 200km/h speeds easily. Same goes for the Duke 200 as well which deserves a longer geared faired version.

As far as we all know its KTM who are supposed launch a faired version of their upcoming 375cc naked on 2014 which will be based on KTM's moto3 bike, not Bajaj.

They will too very different bikes, the Duke would be more of an all out aggressive street fighter. It would be a bit vibey and won't be all that comfortable.

On the other hand the CB500 trio of bikes would be more relaxed and refined. I'm really hoping all three come to India soon, the cross over will make for an excellent all rounded bike satisfying almost everyone's touring needs.

Err no. Moto3 = 250cc 4-stroke single cylinder with maximum 81mm bore. 375cc is way off the mark.

It had dual underseat exhausts before...

Streetfighters aren't uncomfortable, they are rather all-rounder bikes.
Not heavy tourers, neither crouch low sports - they are just spot on for every situation.

Bit vibey is a KTM nature - more due to the amazing power to weight- where the engine throbs with truckloads of power- but it is otherwise, very very comfortable.
