  • Same kerb weight as my current ride.. twice the horsepower!! Now THAT is a proper upgrade!!

I don't know how KTM plan on selling these in the EU since it is still too light to clear A2 limitations. But Hey.. I ain't complaining!!
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

    • ^^ What is the weight limit for A2? (too lazy too google )

Dry weight of 139 translates into 150+ wet weight alteast around 1.5-2 Ltrs engine oil + 11-12 ltrs of fuel!

EDIT: You said, its an upgrade alright but the CB500X is a tempting option for me personally, since its appears to be more 'touring' friendly

        • The only negative I see is, it looks exactly like the D200 except the frame color, they should atleast put projectors on this one like Praful had mentioned a few pages back.

Bajaj do something to the rear seat.

I feel Bajaj's version of this bike will be the one to watch out for.

          • Will this bike also have 10.5 litres of fuel holding capacity?

"the new 390 Duke weighs in at less than 150 kilograms fully fuelled – not only raising its dynamics above many a higher-capacity bike but also making it a sporty alternative to pricey maxi scooters"

Just wow, what else can one say!

This would be one of the Baddest/Meanest/Scariest bike in India.

Since its being made in India, its India launch is certain and that too at a price which would be at least 50% of what the rest of the world would be paying for..!!

                      • KTM seems to be working on a simple funda, raise everything we like, and reduce everything we don't. Price low, Weight low, Performance high.
The result is that the 390 should give some serious riding fun around the city and on highways too, with more than double the overall performance of a 180cc, but with similar weight (!!).

And I believe KTM's philosophy strikes right at hearts of some of the Indian bikers atleast, if not most. We, the Indian bikers don't have much power to spare for carrying around heavier stuff on our bikes. We all don't have 190 bhp or even 90. Nor do we have money in millions just to spend on a bike. We really need all the Power to Weight that we can get, in as less price as possible.

I am a minimalist. Even my P208 is stripped to the bare minimum, having only the essential aids (RVM's, Footrests, Rear Mudguard, leg guard, etc.) which are needed for normal street operation & safety of the motorcycle.

I like it that way & I'm sure most will agree with me. For such minimalists, KTM is the only choice in India, I believe.

Assuming that it returns a mileage of 20kmpl, it's a healthy 200km range, which would satisfy most people's needs. Not everyone is going to Leh on this bike. In case they do, then they will have to buy a bigger fuel tank, which i'm sure will be available as an accessory or they can have couple of fuel cans for emergency!!

                              • I believe this will be one heck of an upgrade and in the process will also compel other manufacturers to take KTM seriously in India! So fingers crossed Indian market is finally heating up like it should have been 5 years ago!!

Respect for KTM a true two stroke heart is back in action in India. I do hope that KTM will iron out the issues they found in Duke 200 like the chain and the sprockets literally being eaten away and minute niggles that have come out. Bajaj is truely being very focused on customer satisfaction which i regretfully won't be able to say with Honda.

                                Cheers,
