    hi,

i just read that the rate in germany is 4.995 euro inclusive of ABS.
the duke 200 is 4.400 euros....
so the increase in europe is marginal, but the duke 200 is also nearly double the rate in germany then it is here.

now it depends in ktm and bajaj how they want to position the bike here.
if they continue as they did with the 200 we might end up with a very competitive rate again.
or they want to get more margin, create a bit more of a premium feel, and have the 200 as the entry level bike which is more affordable.
we will see soon, am curious to find out about the price.

With KTM/Bajaj retaining the looks from the 200 on this, I don't think they are in a position to charge premium for bike this bike despite is much bigger heart.

I am expecting some earth shattering pricing for the 390! A little south of 2.5L I reckon

Have been silently following the 390 launch so far, and I can say that I'm pretty dissapointed. I had hoped that bike would be proportinately bigger, so much power in such a small package is fun alright but at the same time might be a little too potent. Even though they are shod with Metzeler tyres now, its still not enough to hold down this bike and its pretty apparent in the video where the rider is almost sliding in one corner.

I also hope that KTM is exploring possibilites of making derivatives of this bike, much on the lines of what Honda has done with the CB500 series.

Really looking forward now to how the bigger Pulsar will shape up to be.

      • as most of the things are same on 200 and 390. Is there a chance, where they take in the old 200 duke and replace its engine with the 390's engine along with other necessary changes.?

        • Even I think Bajaj is going to price the Duke aggressively. Over here in NZ, the 200 is around NZD 8,000.00. The 390 is expected by early next year and the dealer was saying that they will certainly keep the pricing below 10,000.00. So considering the marginal increase of 2,000.00 in NZ market, the price difference in India would be even lesser.
I for one, am glad that KTM have not diluted the Duke DNA. If someone wants to buy a more comfortable, bigger bike there are other options available. Changing the Duke to make it more tourer friendly or adding plastic cladding just to make a faired version would certainly have caused its designer to commit Harakiri.
For me the Duke is a street fighter – period.
KTM can definitely use this engine to mould an adventure tourer or a faired bike, but seriously do you think they would invest in two whole new segments just to cater a niche market in India. Golden rule of niche market aggressive pricing goes out of the window.

          • ktm has learned a trick or two from bajaj

once I was reading an interview with a senior ktm official, he said "bajaj came to us and they wanted to learn a few things about advanced technology. but it was other way round, we ended up learning more from them about production line from them than they learned tech from us."

it looks like pulsar 150-180-200-220 strategy to me. ktm 125-200-390. downside to this strategy is the least displacing bike gets a lot more potent chassis and suspension setup than it actually need. and upside is, well, its the best part, highest displacement bike is not much more expensive than lower displacement bike.

Initially I was skeptical about this strategy. But if it allows them to price 390 under 2 lac, then its best news on internet for me.

I agree about the derivatives part because it would enable the adoption of this bike, which is quite a sweet spot for many uses including commuting, adventure touring and maybe limited off-roading (along the lines of the CB500 series and even the new Hypermotard/strada from Ducati). Regarding the size of the bike, it may be that the KTM small bike platform was designed from the ground up to accommodate a range of engines and therefore, they may not have needed to increase it. I am more excited about the ABS offering planned even for the smaller Duke and am hoping for upgrade kits to be released by Bajaj-KTM.

              • No changes to the hard suspension I presume.they could have added a projector at least to differentiate.doesn't matter thou if the price is going to be sub 2 lac.which is definitely possible as duke marketing similar to pulsars now.

What if the bigger Pulsar turns out like the 390 Duke has.. i.e. a really kick@$$ stonker of an engine but built around the current 200NS platform.. with an insane retail price to boot?

Yes that's precisely why I'm interested in seeing Bajaj's flavor of the 390

Hope its more 'touring' friendly I personally need a new bike in the coming months!

As with the 200s, the Duke will target a niche market (which you and me might not be a part of) and the Pulsar will target the volume segment and a wider customer base.

Expecting the forthcoming Pulsar 375 to be even more bang for the buck and a better all-rounder than the just introduced KTM.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

                      • eagerly waiting for the p375 spy pics now...and even more eager to know are they continuing tradition with a naked bike or do they plan to introduce a faired one?

well the duke on specs does look tempting but as expected it just looks like a beefier duke 200 and this styling will remain the same for all the dukes(personally hate the design of the headlamps) but i expect pulsar to be different....

what more interesting is the price at which they launch the new duke and pulsar...will the new pulsar cannibalize the duke 200 and ninja?

More than the Price or the Styling/Body style.. it is the difference in "Character" which is more interesting.

KTM by its Off road "ready to race" genes are bound to be edgy, fast, urgent, raw and hooligan by nature.. and that's how every KTM should be. The Pulsar with the 200NS has surprising reinvented itself as a mature, stable & relaxed ride which has a grown up feel... and I would like the big daddy Pulsar to retain the same difference with its exotic cousin.

The faired Pulsar has lots of cool body surfaces and panels. First hand viewers were shocked to see it. Their impression: It doesn't look like a Bajaj!

One of the recent statement of Mr Bajaj was that henceforth all the KTM bikes below 400 cc will be completely designed and developed by Bajaj at pune without any support from KTM. Your point vindicates or supports confidence shown by Mr Bajaj.
