  • Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Launched Globally: xBhp News

    Good Morning Guys,
My First Post @xbhp. Have booked an R3, awaiting delivery soon. Guys who have picked up their babies, just wanted to know, whether you went personally during the PDI process( read somewhere that it took 2 hrs for the PDI to be completed). And does the PDI take place at the warehouse or at the showroom or both?
If its done at both ends, thn which is the one that i could/should be willing to be a part of? Any special go through points apart from the regular checks for dents, scratches, Oil-coolant levels etc etc..??

To the owners : What is the average mileage which you are getting out of this motor?
Need to know the tank range.

Finally saw the R3 in flesh at AIMS YAMAHA dealer@ LBS Marg, Bhandup, Mumbai. Drop dead gorgeous is what I can say no matter how many times I stare at her. No way anyone can confuse this with an R15.
Seeing is believing. Even I had my preconceived notions regarding its overall dimensions by just looking at YouTube review videos. But in reality its a beast. So much sporty, it rather resembles its elder siblings. BTW on road price comes around 3,80,000 INR!!

I am so used to riding a bike with ABS, I am scared to think about riding one without ABS. No test rides available for N300 or R3, how to finalize my decision

same is the confusion with me, I have booked both, still confused which one to finalize.
somewhere i feel, r3 gets lost in the crowd, to be specific in the crowd of r15's.. which is oposite in the case of n300..

              Here you go..!!

              M 5.10...,
              R3 looks a bit smaller i believe.
Was lucky enough to get the test ride of both..
The green is anytime better than blue..can be identified from anywhere, you dont need to search your bike in the parking lot
The cuts and looks of r3 are better, though no complains with the Ninja.

Somewhere felt the ninja 300 is more crispier in terms of sound than r3.
The R3 needs less space than ninja to take a u turn.
Felt a minor wrist pain in r3 while driving it in the traffic, was not the case in Ninja though, not sure if it was the case due to less tyre pressure that it was being heavy.
Ninja gives u more feel of a big bike while driving, feels a bit heavier.

Price diff in Pune between both the bikes is around 30k.
If u r on finance, the same can be covered in the difference in the roi of diff finance companies.

I hope i resolved queries of many of u.. though I am still confused between both.

The R3 looks razor sharp IMO when compared with N300, I agree that the dimensions of R3 is small but that should help it make a better handler.
R3 doesn't stand out as much as N300 amongst the crowd but that is somewhat a blessing in disguise, your bike won't be fiddled with when parked in public spaces, if grabbing eyeballs is your intention then N300 does it better.
Additional 30k price difference compensates for the absence of slipper clutch. And is slipper clutch really necessary, I mean it is good to have but everyday street riding with occasional track days, naaah!! And we as a generation grew up without all these comforts.
ABS, yes it is a good safety feature, I have it on my D390 but did I learn to ride on bikes having ABS! Nope! We all know how to ride a non ABS bike. But again, at this price point it was expected to come as standard.
Tyres- MRF should last longer compared to Metz. I love Metz coz it grips the road like a leech but I hate it when it grips my wallet, expensive to replace.

The only thing I would like to know is the cost of ownership and ease of availability of spares. This would decide my next purchase, the other contender being Er6n.

All those bikes without abs are below 200cc, there is a huge difference when one is riding at 80 km/h and 160 km/h. ABS comes very handy and should be a deciding factor when buying a bike above 200cc. Abs has saved me on numerous occassion on D390. Still it's your personal choice, I would prefer safety over anything.

I agree with your point. I rarely ride at such high speeds and hence may be I haven't realised the utility of ABS.

But if you are interested on a Twin Cylinder 42PS bike that doesn mean you probably have to ride hard and cant ride at 40-50Kmph.
                      Safety first my friend.

I don't understand why we are so worried about the bike not looking big? Big means bulky, difficult to find parking space, difficult to turn, less agile. I understand if very tall riders complain, but why the average 5' 8'' junta? The bikes are getting smaller for a reason. Globally OEMs are now targeting the Asian customer, hence the lower seat heights and relatively smaller dimensions, also not to mention the move towards compactness to boost agility. Look at the new ZX 10R, Fireblade, Panigale.. they don't look huge, almost as small as a middleweight. I find it a bit funny that we demand physically big machines when we are one of the physically average people around. I see the Europeans complaining about the smaller dimensions these days and blaming the OEMs for an Asian bias which makes sense. But why us? Just to stand out at the traffic lights? For that full riding gear is enough guys

Coming to the looks, I find the R3 sexy. The headlamps in particular are work of art. Ninja though not bad, looks bland in comparison, probably due to no decals. It's another matter that I find the RC390 head and shoulders above these two in terms of design. But to each his own!

                          ^ well said.

Really strange set of request from the lovelies here.

I find it funny that delta box frame, slipper clutch and maybe carbon ceramics are being requested. Whereas simple things like a projector headlamp, massively important for touring in this country, isn't on the charter of demands. Which just means one thing, that people are interested in a spec by spec comparison, not an actual need or something critical. Get on the bike guys. Take it into a fast sweeping corner, feel the honest or dishonest nature of the contractors through your bums and then correct a bit of your line through counter steer and then come back and tell what all the bike is missing. And then this will be a meaningful conversation.

                            you both deserve a cookie
Just yesterday we bunch of guys including abhishek saquib sachin and arnab and few others did a comparo with N300 and RC390. all of us rode all the bikes and shared info regarding how did these bike FEEL when ridden and which would they prefer. the bikes were ridden for good 2 kms, including sudden acceleration and braking (except the R3) and taking U turns and so on. just R3 was not ridden hard since they were in running in. and n300 had almost wornout front brake pads so we didnt test front brake much. we will be doing all this again once N300 is proper and R3 has finished running in. will share the review on this soon.

PS: Ninja owner said R3 looked big marginally and felt big and Ninja just 'looked big' because of the single colour that stands out and he also said that tyres were better than N300 (though not as great as Metz). he liked the ride comfort too. RC rider said that he felt R3 was perfect and RC had only 'power' and perfect track tool.

Hope i didnt spark a fire again. orelse i will have to issue a public apology.

Rather sadly this bike is a day too late (3 years) and a dollar short for me. Don't get me wrong; I am hardcore Yamaha fan, I still have a R15 and still root for Team Yamaha in MotoGp. But after 3 frustrating years of waiting for Yamaha to come out with a bigger displacement bike, when Kawasaki introduced N300 I had no choice but to opt for it as the R3 was not even on the horizon at the time. I have had no regrets with my selection of N300, it is a fantastic bike with 3 years worth of memories that I would not trade of anything but a R3 if it were available at the time I got the N300, and a R3 Samurai would have been created instead of Ninja San.

All this comparison between the bikes is pointless. Though I have yet to see the R3 and experience the ride, I will say this, like sneakers and jeans, what matters is individual fit and comfort. Don't go by paper specs, go by what makes you feel comfortable and fits your riding style. You guys are lucky, now you have a choice between 3 makes in the 300 cc class, I had only one and luckily it was a great fit and super comfortable one.
