  • Ok, no issues, I'll try to load some pics of what I've bought; basically T-Stem that goes into the frontal of the frame at the forks, 5 speed sprocket kit, kick start gear & Yamaha logo

This guy said, he'll get an OE turn lights for Rs 180 a piece vs Minda Rs 90; I asked them to bring an OE & also they provided a tip that front turn lights are different from rear; I'm hearing this for first time; if anyone has some expertise, pls throw some light here - Thanks. Once it comes, I'll upload the pics.

OE price for turn lights is Rs 175 a piece. The bolt thread for the rear ones are slightly longer than the front ones. That is the difference. And quality wise they are absolute yuck! to put on a bike. No waterguard gasket inside. Cheap build. Cheap reflector. Cheap chrome. I passed them off (lying with me idle now), and have put the Thunderbird OE turn lights, that cost the same but amazing build and quality-wise.

You're spot on; that's the price they quoted; I just rounded off to 180; So you recommend Minda? Man, what about that Nickel stuff? You didn't answer me that.

Open the top cover of the glass and see if you see a rubber gasket inside. The gasket secures the glass to the body and also acts as a water guard. See the quality of the mount rubbers. Should be not to rigid, not to hard. Not a fan of Minda. See if you can get Swiss ones.

Zinc Plating is done via anodising zinc oxide. It is not nickel or chroming of stuffs. Zinc plating is different. I know places here in Kolkata who does quality zinc plating and in your city too there will be a number of zinc platers. Just hunt for a zinc plater and hand him over your nuts bolts washers. He will do the needful. The rate applied will be according to weight of your material.

PS: The new nuts and bolts that you see, looks silvery are all zinc plated. Your old oily tarnished nuts and bolts will turn brand new after a quality zinc plating. Do not throw away the original nuts and bolts, as much as possible use them.

          • so chroming means use chromium & nickeling means using zinc? But what about the output? which one looks good? Is there a thumb rule to be followed which one can be nickel coated or chromed?

When the metal is Nickel, it is nickel plating. For zinc it is zinc Plating. All are different types of Electroplating.

Your silencer should be Chrome/Nickel plated. Good chrome platers can be found in Varanasi/Benaras. I am yet to come across a Chrome plater - Industrial standard in Kolkata.

The bolts, nuts and axles should be zinc plated unless you want them to look like the silencer too - you can opt for Chrome plating them.

              • just wanna add.. please dont use any nut that has a damaged head or anything... a fresh bolt/nut of a good company like LPS or something looks much much better...

Sorry Swingarm, I'm getting confused as what to chrome & what to nickel, anyway, I'll google for some info. Thanks for the tip though.

This is there in my mind since day 1, so don't worry, I'll go in for new set of bolt/nuts & screws, however the only confusion that prevails is, how to identify the sizes? Unless the vehicle is stripped down & I get hold of all the old bolt & nuts, I wouldn't be able to pick them up by myself.

                  • ^^ we've had this conversation on the phone.. get some half inch/ 1 inch , 11/2 inch ten number bolts, philips screws, and some 12 number bolts.. your bike will mostly be complete. Or else buy a complete bolt kit that comes separately.

                    • Right JD, but as the days of parts collection are nearing completion, little skeptical about the bolts & nuts; I'll have another round of call with you - if you don't mind. The stuff on chroming & nickeling is still on progress, meanwhile new confusion on silicon rubbing vs clear coating has started, I'm learning on this stuff too.

                        • I'm keeping the writing short & let the pics speak themselves; cot's bottom space has become official Yamaha spares stocking place & trust me, I'm running out of space & now I've to seek my Mother's permission to stock under her cot. Here're some of the parts that were procured since my last posting; with this I stand updated
