        • Guys, i had mailed HMSI and called them to know about the engine oil for CBR250R. All sources told me that 10w30 full synthetic comes stock with the CBR.. so in my first service, i got it changed to what they recommended (10w30 100% synthetic). Now at the oil change my bike was about 1000kms on odo. But somehow, due to my readings on engine oil and the advice from many to use only mineral oil for first 5-6K kms, i am confused. Still i am not getting any convincing answer..
What should i do?? Remove the synthetic oil and replace with mineral oil of same grade?? or let it be the way it is, as it has done about 500kms after oil change?? Please suggest.
You gotta risk it.. to get da biscuit !!!

don't worry, your bike is in safe hands with the FS. The mis-conception of using only mineral oil for abt 2k kms before switching to SS or FS stands for older generation engines and a bit low tech indian engines. Your baby has the same engine of the CBR1000rr,with 3 cylinders knocked off and a lower components. You will definitely need FS and try to change off every 2k kms tops.Maybe you can change to motul 300v 10W40 after 2~3k kms.But do not change to mineral, and if honda themselves are using/recommending FS,then there is no need to worry at all.

Can i now change the from the regular Honda oil?
              Synthetic or Semi synthetic?
              Which brand?
How many Kms can be covered on different oils you will be suggesting?
Yes,2k kms is more than enough to switch,to be on the safe side first use SS
              Try Valvoline 4t premium SS 20W50 first.Change @ 2k kms initially.
you can stretch any Ss for 2.5k kms if you drive sedately,or else i recommend you change at every 2k kms.Shell AX-7 is also good, but it seems the oil is loosing its thing after 1.5k kms.It is also SS 10W40.
You can also go a step ahead and use motul 5100 10W40 or 15W50.
a bit expensive, but o a very good oil. I don't think the dazzler needs Fs unless you revv the bolts off it.

Even I own a dazzler. I think this valvoline 4t 20w50 wont suit the dazzler as this oil is very thick(20w50). I have tried Castrol active extra 20w50, & was not happy with this thick oil. This oil needs more time to circulate around the engine in cold mornings. It also resists the engine to rev up freely! These 20w50 oils are only useful when you do a lot high speed riding in hot sunny days. Now, these days temperatures are not so high, so a 20w50 oil is a strict no for honda dazzler. Instead you can try shell ax7 10w40 oil(semi-synthetic @Rs 280/-) or if you can stretch the budget go for shell advance ultra 10w40 (fully synthetic@ Rs 700/-).

ROTELLA NEWS: Will I Harm My Engine By Mixing Synthetic Oil and Mineral Oil?

                      Valvoline.com > FAQs > Motor Oil Car FAQs > Full-Synthetic Motor Oil

There is a lot of useful info in Valvoline's FAQ..

A synthetic oil contains more uniform smaller particles of oil ,and hence will leak past worn or ill fitted , or old oil seals, and gaskets.....With heat when parts of an engine expand , the resultant gap will allow Synthetic oil to flow through , causing oil leak and oil consumption in engine.
A mineral oil contains Base stock with Wax which helps to seal and not allow this to happen...
Gr8 thatz the valuable info thanks.

                      • Hey guys my first reply to this thread.
I am riding a TVS Apache RTR 180 and clocked 7600kms now. Up till 7000kms I've used minerals, now using Shell Advance AX7 10w40 SS.

I would like to know if Motul 5100 ester 10w40 SS is better than the one which i'am using now.

Even though i commute keeping the revs below 4500rpm, i enjoy some spirited riding on early mornings

Yes, a big fan of M300V FL, but i think the oil ain't practical for me, because of the limited riding schedule as of now. (kind of like taking 6 months or so to clock 3000kms)

                        Waiting for any feedback
The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

Motul is known for it's quality and expensive, however, if you want me to compare between oils, I would not know. I have used Motul 5100 on my bike and it's GOOD! Go for it with eyes closed.

Motul 5100 costs around 425 bucks and 300v is around 850-900 bucks.

Motul 5100 is a VFM and very much enough for all types of riding conditions unless u are a all time redliner

Guess M5100 ester is a very good oil to say the least. Only thing is finding it's 10w40 grade in Trivandrum My regular dealer has 15w50 but not 10w40 as of now. I've asked him and he said, would try to arrange it. No problemo for me, because I've got time till August for my 7th pay service. So i would be using Shell Advance AX7 for around 1500kms and hence would'nt be wasting it either.
