If the TCI is not getting enough juice, ignition timing, advance, spark everything will change hence the hiccup, it will behave differently. So before changing the TCI, have it checked thoroughly.

    TCI - Transistor Controlled Ignition.

Whats idi ?? Hearing it for the first time !!

I changed the battery to Amaron just 2 months back - just before the Leh ride. I also checked it, and seems good. Also, I've been using 55W halo at times, but never had this issue - then why would a 55W HID suddenly cause this issue? Also, in whole of Leh ride, I had the 55W HID on most of the times, and never had an issue... hmm.
Since the issue started, I reverted back to 35W halo.
As you said, I'll check everything related to the battery, RR, TCI etc...
55w Halogen and 55w HID power consumption need not be same .

Before checking other stuff, check the charging amps on battery with peak load.. That will tell u the story !!!

      • HOLY MOTHER OF DC!!!!! the old team is back, now thats missing from the light thread,,,,,,,,,,,,

        ok lijo,.............

1.power of 55 watt halo is not the same of 55 watt hid and if you are referring navnishes hid ,,,awesome stuff, outof the world illumination but but but consumption is close to 6 amps ,,,,,after being settled, the start up is close to 9-10 amp. a 55 watt halo is max 4.5 amps, and it will even cut down the consumption if the batt is low(like a good understanding wife),while the hid will suck the b***h out of the battery even its dying, then all of a sudden out of no where ,it will leave you (like a super s**y B***h girlfriend,to whom mens are like atms only),hope you catch the drift....

2.the problems you are saying are typically sounding like failure of some dc relay dew to low voltage.as sajjit bhai and shreeni said, start from one end to another.check all.
3.but first and most imp,put a amp meter in the bike and let us know the charge discharge status .

if i remember correctly your coil is winded with 19.5awg wire and tuned for power to support one 35 hid or 55/60 halo.its winded to produce more voltage in low end to provide enough power to tci but the load should not excess 35 watt in hid or 55/60 in case of halo.

CHECK THE CHARGE DISCHARGE STATUS,FORGET VOLTMETER,GET AN AMP METER 30 AMP OR BULLET WALA,AND PLONK IT AND SEE,YOU WILL FIND YOUR ANS.

        HOPE IT HELPS....

idi = inductive discharge ignition. it is similar to cdi.

yes yes... I'm getting a new TCI anyway... coz even after reverting to stock load, i have the engine hicupps... so its almost given that the current TCI is gone

                  • Hi
I want a projector lamp setup for my Karizma R(not the 2011's model), with HID bulb.
And I dont want to loose any time between hi/lo but its okay for me to lose some seconds for warming up the HID bulb when it is turned ON...
                    What are the various possibilities?
I want a good setup so trusted bulbs only, like Philips? I want white light, so 4300K? If I want to use flasher in the day time also, then is it not possible in the HID setup?
Please don't forget to mention the total cost that will be required in the setup.
I want just bright light with good spread and throw, I've tried the 55w Philips Xtreme Vision and the reflector started getting corroded above the bulb. So I want to swap with the setup I'm asking for, as soon as possible.
Thanks and Diwali Wishes to all.

                    • No one still replied to my query..... After switching to full dc, the line from the coil which used to power the headlights is lying empty. Can i insert that line into my rectifier alongside the current line so that the rectifier gets more current to charge my battery at low rpm... And it will charge the battery faster... Can it be done? Hope i am able to explain it properly

i'll prefer 6000k over 4300k.... As in 6000k, the light is mre concencrated and visible even under streetlights. But in 4300k, u'll only feel the light in total dark areas.... And why do you want to go for philips? Its costly yaar.... The cheaper ones are available in wellington, and the light is awesum. I bought mine for 1100 rupees from dev da wellington.... You cant even stare at my light when it glows at full intensity. The cheaper ones are not that bad..... You can try it.... No time loss when shifting between hi/lo.. And yea you cant use flasher in hid unless and until the bulb is warmed up. And using flasher in hid is not advisable because it loads the wiring....

you can't just add 2 AC lines & feed to the RR, the two AC lines has a 45 degree phase difference, it'll damage your RR.

Proper DC conversion means rewind the coil and feeding the the whole alternator supply to one RR. Assume that u r depending only on light coil presently which is not advisable. Consider floating the light coil from the stator and feed it to another RR and use that power for battery charging rather depending on the battery charging coil as the lighting coil has more power. Putting diodes will not improve the charging rates as the coils are grounded within the stator.

well regarding the 6000k and 4300k i can't really agree with you, 6000k looks brighter but 4300k gives more visibility. Local HIDs will not show much effect on the output only but on the battery. it's the ballast for which price differs. HID bulbs cost 500-600 only that too the one's which are of well known brands.
