  • CBR250 Aux Lights

Hi guys...I own a CBR250ABS and currently running on Osram NB Plus. I am very satisfied with the NBs for city use, but for highways, i am looking for an auxiliary light. My requirements are as follows:

    • It should have a narrow and long, focused beam
    • The beam throw should reach out farther (something like a spotlight, not like the NBs which have a wide, spread-out beam).
    • Color temp is not a concern but shouldn't cross 5500K - (Anything between Yellow to Warm White)
    • It will be externally mounted, so it should be water resistant and should be mountable/removable easily.

Many will suggest projector HIDs but I have cross-checked and most of the chinese ones available here DO NOT meeting my criteria (Narrow, distant spot beam). I was looking at Hella Optilux Lights (LINK) and a few other Hella products but they are overtly expensive and unavailable in India. So, what are the other options available?
Also, considering an additional load of 35W, what will be the load on the battery since I am running on the stock6AH battery? Please help me with options!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

      • It should have a narrow and long, focused beam --->> Use Auxiliary Spot Lights from Autopal, Minda etc. Not Fancy enough but serves purpose exactly.
      • The beam throw should reach out farther (something like a spotlight, not like the NBs which have a wide, spread-out beam). -->> Its not the NB's but the reflector that gives wide spread out beam.
      • Color temp is not a concern but shouldn't cross 5500K - (Anything between Yellow to Warm White) -->> 4300k is the only option.
      • It will be externally mounted, so it should be water resistant and should be mountable/removable easily. -->> Mount at a level equal to the Headlight or even higher: then only the spot beams are useful to the fullest. I installed one on my crash guard and it was not useful.

Many will suggest projector HIDs(projector is useless for highbeams) but I have cross-checked and most of the chinese ones available here DO NOT meeting my criteria (Narrow, distant spot beam). I was looking at Hella Optilux Lights (LINK) and a few other Hella products but they are overtly expensive and unavailable in India. So, what are the other options available? -->> Start using Autopals or Mindas and after you understand the beams go for expensive ones.
Also, considering an additional load of 35W, what will be the load on the battery since I am running on the stock6AH battery? Please help me with options!-->> I am completely alien to CBR250. Try fellow CBR owners.
Only option with 35w load is HID. Get 4300K H3 socket bulbs and use them in spotlights. You can purchase them on ebaydotcom(chinese HID's) takes 15 days for shipping. Quality of chinese HID's -> 2 years and 2 ballasts no problem at all, still going strong, I even tweaked one 35w ballast to draw 62w and the color temperature that I got with 4300k is very very good.

I ordered myself one of these Bike Lights from DealXtreme. Has anyone here used them before? They are rated at 10W (Cree XML-U2 LEDs) and I checked a comparison on youtube, they seem to be bright enough (atleast brighter than XML-T6s), and what works best in my favor is that the beam throw is adjustable. And I am sure the projector would look cool as well.

The only glitch is that these run off a 8.4v battery pack and are meant to be mounted on Bicycle Handlebars, so will need to do some jugaad for the mounting and the voltage regulation part. Some questions on electronics (please excuse me if the questions are noobish, I assume most people here would have an idea on resistors):

            • The unit is rated at 8.4v...so will it harm the unit if I run it for long hours at 9V for a tad more brightness? Or should I just stick to 8V?
            • Would I need a LED regulator, or a normal 7808/7809 resistor is more than enough?

If anyone here is using a similar product then reviews would be highly appreciated.

              google "supercharge hid ballast"
It is applicable to only some ballasts(which have adjustable resistance with screw type).
I have one such ballast and the trick worked. I've added my old Processor Heatsink with some thermal paste to dissipate the heat. The ballast gets really really hot.
I adjusted it to draw 62 watts. It takes negligible time for the bulb to achieve full brightness.
My other ballast is different and I tried other things from google but couldn't achieve the result.
The below ballast is the cheapest from ebay.

If the LED has a heatsink then you can drive it to 9V safely.
7809 IC is rated 1A. so 9V*1A=9Watts only where as yours is 10W. I think you need regulator IC with higher Amp rating.

YES its is illegal in CITY LIMITS.. As BTP have the rule of "No High Beam in City limits", that's it.. Actually you can get fined of INR 100 if caught using "High-beam" regardless whether it is halogen,HID,LED or even a torch light

Surprisingly, it is stock reflectors.. The HID is from a company called "HID",made in China ..I searched every gully of J.C for nearly 3 hours & finally found it...

The shop, "MOTO CROSS" is on the left side of the road approximately here:-
Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.
