Is changing the bike's head light to HID/Projector is illegal?

    Will it grab COP's attention?

I need some official confirmation on this, as I am willing to install HID in my Gixxer but my uncle stoped me from installing and said its illegal.

Installing only HID is illegal , as it wil create too much glare on traffic coming from opposite direction which can blind them for few sec.

Installing HID + projector is legal .

Oh really...but actually what is projector? What is the difference between HID and projector?

I thought both are same with different names.

My knowledge on this is very less, Could you please elaborate it for me?

        TIA!!

I also googled whether HID/Projector is legal or illegal...they are not saying it's legal or illegal...they say these type of HID will attract Cops and these types won't...I don't need whether it attracts Cops or not...I need to know whether it is legal or illegal.

If you don't mind could you elaborate this please.

          TIA!!

Any HID projector system having a color temperature below 8000 kelvin in road legal.

In India there is no such rule though ...cops can take it as a chance for pulling out some money though.

I am using a 4300 Kelvin HID projector since 1 nd half years, never was I stopped by any cops anywhere in India (travelled a lot with that setup).

              Hi All,

I recently purchased a pre-owned Yamaha FZ16 2013 version. The previous owner has installed HID projector, Roots horn and attempted to install roots alarm which he removed due to some problem and gave it to me in its box, because of which the self start motor is not connected.

My problem is that i feel the projector is not suitable for me as i ride predominantly on highways and the high beam is not powerful enough for me to spot the potholes from a distance. low beam is good but the light spread is limited to only 2 meters.

Please let me know what should i do? should i revert it to stock headlight assembly and go for a 60/55 bulb or is there any other alternative to improve the projector?

In case i need to go for reflector, i would have to change the complete headlight kit right? Please throw some light.

              Thanks

The projector I see in the above picture is a definite cheap Chinese one .... which will be useless on highways, even in city.

Consider fixing a high quality HID projector kit with a good 4300 kelvin HID bulb and digital AC ballast.

You can source one from - www.facebook.com/HIDhyderabad

If you are not ready to spend that much, buy a new dome and fix it. Revert the bike's light to stock condition.

I can try and address the three points from my experience.

The HID projector, though very cool, is only for show and you will regret it in rain, during long rides, dusty conditions, well lit motorways. Is it a cop magnet, can't really say as in Hyderabad cops will find a way. You will not see the light, only the light it throws. Its a personal choice.

If you want to revert it to stock, its an easy DIY. Refer to this link. I don't know if you can get just the reflector...The Headlight assembly costed me Rs. 750/- and the bulb was Philips Extreme vision costing me Rs 399/-. Getting a better projector is costly affair and money can be better spent on gear :-)

I installed the Dual Roots Windtone, but I have also installed fuses for both of them. No Point in frying the whole thing as electrical is the biggest mess to sort out in a bike. I bought them from the same store that sold them, though had to specifically ask for them. ' Horn relay' is all you need to say.

As for the alarm system, I would say better to skip it. A friend of mine had it on his R15. Installation is messy and they screw around with the CDI which is not worth it. Just my 2 paisa. You can get a disk lock or lever lock which do about the same job.
When I'm on the road, I'm indestructible. No one can stop me... but they try.

                    Hi guys

I would like to convert my bike ( TVS Phoenix 125) to full DC setup.
The bike has 12 poles stator coil. Can I just unground the coil and use a full wave RR ?? If so which RR would be good?
I would like to run good 60/55w bulb.

Can I use p200ns RR ?? Please confirm
                    Regards,

I think it was more around 450 /- ... it retails for around 650 /- if i'm not wrong ... H4 12V and there is a Crystal vision which was cheaper

But that's what I got based on the box and the price inferred from the bill :-) I'll check if I have a picture of the box

Thanks for your reply. I took my bike to a local mechanic; he opened the assembly and got rid of the black paint on the reflector using petrol and put a regular 35w bulb (80rs). The transparent plastic in front is all foggy and the performance is still bad. i am thinking about buying better bulb. the philips extreme vision you mentioned is 60/55 or 35?

Its 60/55 (Blue tipped) ... the link i shared has videos of the light throw. You were lucky it was just paint on the reflector ... mine was a badly botched up job. More power to you :-)

Please go through the section on which is better ... Philips or Osram. I bought Philips as it was easily available.

                                Hey All,

After months and months of research, eliminating options and stuff I rectified what bothered me lot.
I had complaints with the illumination system of my 2009 Bajaj Pulsar 180,

Catering to my issue, initially I experimented with a 55/60W Philips Diamond Vision with a lot of apprehension as the recommended setting was 35W.Luckily went well with the bike it handled the mod with ease and to my surprise the illum got better.
But still in dingy, poor lit areas I still craved for a bit more presence.

I got in touch with a bro of mine who had twin AES Bi-Xen setup on his motorcycle, the output of those bad boys was immense...
and it would have served my purpose if there wasn't that hitch in my mind ,I was hesitant with this option fearing manhandling the electrics and baffling modifications(I may be wrong here) hence I rolled back this option.
When I was in Delhi lately I saw these Cree light bars, now I asked myself about considering this option...Why not ??
This was an easy fix and might actually surprise me, so bought 2 sets of Fog/Spot Cree Lamps.
