I want to change 35w headlamp of Suzuki gixxer sf.I want to brighten it and still retain the hi-beam/low-beam capabilities and without attracting the attention of the cops as well as without being a nuisance to incoming traffic.
My knowledge of lights ,bulbs and bike electrical is zero ,zilch.I need help....

      • help required in pulsar 150 UG4.5

        Hello xbhp 's,

Please help me in this Im having pulsar 150 UG4.5 2013 model ,The system is full DC 35watts headlight 35/35
Even though checking all the thread i cant get the results for my doubts

now i want to upgrade this stock with Osram Night breaker 55/60watts bulb including 2 spot light 15watts each *2

So my total power requirement is
        Headlight = 60watts
        Spot light 15watts*2 = 30watts
other accessories like taillamp, indicator, number plate, break light i dont know how much they will consume
but approximately i think i need in 100-110watts so now please how to achive those what are all the changes i need to do .

is avenger 180 stator coil part number DV 111005 will fit in my bike post telling that it only for AC setup bikes since my bike is full DC

my mechanic told me it will burst your CDI however we can use additional switch for this i didnt understand what he is telling

From what I know, Gixxer has a 3Ah battery, so you can't upgrade to a 60/55W bulb as it would take approx 5A on high beam which is above your battery capacity.

Now, you are left with either upgrading to a good 4300K or 3300K Osram / Philips 35/35W halogen or going for a 35W HID with a projector setup.

Don't opt for a bulb which has a colour temperature rating greater than 4300K as the light output would degrade and it would be just for show.

If battery is 3 ah it makes sense going for a projector setup.

But some people had upgraded to Philips Xtreme Vision 55/60W even with 3AH battery in Gixxer....will it affect battery to a great extent or the bulb(Philips Xtreme Vision)requires only lesser AH?

Well thats not a correct piece of information. 3Ah battery doesn't mean it cannot supply 5 amps or more current.

A 3ah battery can supply 3 amps constantly till 1 hour without discharging, however thats not what happens in reality.

FIY ... any battery can supply short bursts of 15 - 20 amps of current without any issues at all.

As long as the charging unit of a bike is capable of charging the battery at a higher rate than the discharge rate, you are good to go.

I personally feel Gixxer can handle a 55/60 watts halogen bulb. Always use headlights judiciously for more bulb, reflector & battery life. Switch off your lights when waiting at a signal.

Battery , Charging , Headlamp upgrade - Explained

Consider a battery to be a water tank.

The bigger the tank(battery) is, it will supply water(current) for a longer time without running dry. (bigger means more Ah value)

Now the Regulated Rectifier unit + stator is the Pump of the tank. (RR + stator = charging system)

If you have a powerful pump(charging system), it doesn't matter if the tank(battery) is big or small because the pump(charging system) runs as long as the engine is running.

Whenever you are not sure whether what bulb upgrades you can do, just calculate or find out what's the maximum charging rate your bike's charging system can supply.

A normal full DC bike makes a peak voltage of 14.4 volts. You can use a ammeter or a multimeter to find out the charging current.

                            ( Charging power = 14.4 * current ) - in Watts

** please note some bikes might not make 14.4 volts, so check the voltage before calculating.

Ex : If my bikes charging system can make 8 amps and peak voltage is 14.4 volts, then my bike produces -

                            14.4*8 = 115.2 watts
                            ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Similarly the current draw of any bulb can be calculated by -

( Power rating of bulb / 12 = Current consumption) - in Amps

                            Ex :
If I consider a 35 watts bulb, the calculation of current consumption will be -

                            35/12= 2.91 amps

                            ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                            > In case of HID kits, majority of HID kits consume a little over the mentioned ratings. i.e a 35 watts HID kit consumes around 40 - 42 watts.

                            > Also in HIDs, the ballast consistently alters the current consumption with accordance to the voltage, i.e if the engine is not revving high(idling), the voltage drops to 12 volts, the current consumption of the ballast increases to compensate.

                            > HID ballasts consume huge current on startup, hence avoid switching on & off HID kits.

                            > Next time someone tells you that you need a biiigggggg battery for higher wattage bulb, tell him the truth.

                            > Even a huge battery would discharge eventually if the charging system is not strong enough or the consumption is beyond the capability of the charging system.

                            • How to install this HID Projector in my Pulsar 150? Please suggest!!

                              Hello friends,

I have Pulsar 150 DTSi (2010). Recently I came across this particular projector with square Angel Eye ring. The link to it is-

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Headlight HID BI Xenon Cree Ring Square Projector | eBay

I bought it and checked it's Angel Eye ring, its working fine. Now for the projector itself I don't have any mechanic or experienced person to do it here in my town!! I know that I need to remove the front glass from my bike's headlight assembly and I had done it just today. Now I am clueless about how to install this HID in it!!!! Do I need to remove the reflector too? If not then how would it fit? Please, if anyone of you have any info regarding this please guide me step by step. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

                                Approved and merged!

Yes, you will have to take out the reflector and cut it carefully so that the projector goes through (if there isn't enough space). YouTube would help. Just search for HID projector fitment on any bike on YouTube.
Else, read through this thread. Done many times by folks.
