  • Need some help from the gurus...
I converted my RTR180 to full DC - coil rewining, APE RR etc - almost a year ago and was pretty happy with a 35W HID kit. At time, I also used to swap with 55W halo when cop menace increase in city.
Early this year (in Jan itself) I ran into engine trouble and since have done 3 rebuilds (dont ask, long story). After my last rebuild in July, by August I started to have this hiccups problem. I had everything related to the engine checked, but the engine and carb were in perfect shape.
In Aug end, I got a 55W HID kit, installed it, and then went to Leh in Sep. During the Leh ride, there were no hiccups what-so-ever and I was very very happy.
But a few days after I returned the hiccup problem returned with a vengeance.

    Current issues:
    1. Running on 35W halo. When lights on, horn is very feeble. This never happened before.
    2. When on high beam, engine kill switch does not work. Works in all other positions.
    3. Hiccups... mostly in low rpms.
    4. Power loss. While running, engine wont go above 7k RPM. Easily crosses when no load, ie in neutral or with clutch fully engaged.

It would be really helpful if someone can help me with your thoughts and inputs.

thats really related to electrical fault.... I had the same hiccups in my tvs flame.... The bike refused to go above a certain rpm maybe around 7k... Later the fault was detected in my coil...and the problem was sorted to some extent...
My bike is also in dc now and the problem started after i made it dc... Some days ago the problem again happened and now the problem was sourced to the idi....which is cutting off current supply to the spark plug sometimes and sometimes its fluctuating..... The current is not constant..... And bike sometimes stalls and refuses to start.... I think you have the same problem as mine.....

                  • Planning a HID for my ride... thought of 55w/35w (upper/dipper) set... the question was, do i need 2 separate ballast for that namely 55w and 35w ballast respectively? or will a 55w ballast light up a 35w bulb without any side effects?

@ Lijo, Hope u are fine after the long Leh trip

I would suggest both of u to check the battery and RR, ur ride's got the latest TCI system which uses DC. If the current is low from the coil, it will take power from the battery. Lijo using a 55W HID too much for a bike so the battery condition is under suspicion. If the TCI is not getting enough juice, ignition timing, advance, spark everything will change hence the hiccup, it will behave differently. So before changing the TCI, have it checked thoroughly.

Sajan bro.. Yes, the Leh ride was great.. you must have seen the pics on FB... there is also a thread, which is very slowly being updated...

I changed the battery to Amaron just 2 months back - just before the Leh ride. I also checked it, and seems good. Also, I've been using 55W halo at times, but never had this issue - then why would a 55W HID suddenly cause this issue? Also, in whole of Leh ride, I had the 55W HID on most of the times, and never had an issue... hmm.
Since the issue started, I reverted back to 35W halo.
As you said, I'll check everything related to the battery, RR, TCI etc...
