• Karizma - Who's the Best Mechanic in Bangalore?

Hi All,

I have a 2005 Karizma (35k km on the ODO) that desperately needs some TLC. The bike still develops power across the band and there are no tell tale signs of any issues except for the noise from the engine. It sounds like everything is loose inside. Kinda rattley (if that's a word). This is especially noticeable when on idle.

Had the tappets adjusted but somehow I don't have trust in the local mechanic to whom I have access to.

Can you suggest a good trustworthy mechanic I can try? Or am I best left to the mercy of Hero Honda Authorised Service?

I stay at Begur Road in Bangalore.

Thanks all!

Tassem.

Haha, thanks for letting me borrow the tag line then! The pic with the cactus was actually super coincidental and ended up being all in good fun Was awesome riding with you as well! Cheers!

Actually this particular trail on which we were led to a private farm further down outside the boundary of the reserve. The bike tyre tread marks belong to a villagers bike who had passed us as we were taking pics. As for the real pug marks they look as if they belong to a dog or a fox maybe??

• Re: Karizma - Who's the Best Mechanic in Bangalore?

Hello Bangalore xBhpians,

I would like to reiterate here the importance of wearing gear while riding with fellow xBhpians in a group ride. It is always safety first and speed next and it is the safety that we are concerned about. We are not asking you to buy expensive gear. Buy what is required.

1. The most important thing is the Helmet. You should buy a helmet that can protect your head from a crash, it should be that solidly framed and comfortable as well. You should try to avoid Half face helmets as because, as per the survey, in a crash, you jaw line take the most of the hit (atleast 31%), you could surf the internet to find more. So we recommend a full face/a good modular helmet.
2. Next comes your riding jacket. Buy a jacket that can give you a protection from a fall. The windcheaters wont do any good. A riding jacket should have armours on your elbows, shoulders and at your back. We have seen riders mentioning this that the windcheaters/jackets with foam is equally good and would save them from fall. This is a wrong assumption and all that jacket can do is keep yourself warm during your ride. Again, you do a survey and then buy a jacket that suits your pocket as well as need.
3. A good pair of riding gloves is a must. It should have knuckle protectors at least because that is the place which gets impacted first when you hit the ground. Woolen gloves just wont do.
4. Last but not the least, a pair of knee guards. This is optional, but it is required to save you from fall as well.

We at xBhpians would appreciate if the riders here takes their time and money, decide the gears to buy and then come for the group ride. As many of us know here, we can allow a rider first time without gear just to get used to the group and be comfortable. But from then onwards it is a 0 tolerance policy. It is a community that wishes well for the riders and it is a community by riders like us. Lets be better at something we are good at, i.e. Riding.
I Ride to Forget the World, and Sometimes I Ride to Forget Who I AM.

Post sunrise; with you guys having turned off for adventure at Jayamangali, I headed straight towards Sira, the roads were... hmmmphh.. TERRIBLE to say the least. The bad potholed kind, the kind that you wish you had a motocross bike to do it in. Hardly anyone on this road... feeling of isolation [tick].

I did enjoy the bad roads for quite a while almost all the way before a place called Banawara near Kadur, finally decided I had enough and took the right turn to Kadur because I knew that road was in better condition... And as expected... my shoulders and back thank me for this. Not to mention the sudden drop in temperatures.

Brilliant roads on the Kudremukh - Kalasa stretch ( in parts only). Some stretches are suspension benders and rim breakers. But check these riders out... These guys I have even more respect for... to be biking this terrain as Sunday rides... respectable... nothing for miles, even mining has been banned for years and there's a very restrictive 1 hour entry and exit to Kudremukh WLS - you have to get in and out of the sanctuary in 1 hour, any delay and you'll be held answerable at the exit point checkpost.

Right then... the sun set as I was exploring the vivid darkness over the back end of the Coorg region when this turned out to be the thorn in my shoe... quite literally... The Republic Day sunday being a holiday affair and all. Managed to plug the gap with a puncture repair kit (broke the tool - f***ing inferior products) and got it going unmounted and walking by for a long long time... worst of all the roads were absolutely brilliant, marked and wide. I was loosing time and patience until I realised I had walked the bike till somewhere near Bylakuppe...

Here as frustrated as I got, I stopped in a nice looking petrol station to ask for help... The guys out there were some of the friendliest, trustworthy and most accommodating people you'll meet on road. The guy actually spent 40 mins trying to locate a tubeless tyre repair guy... through persistence he managed to get a mechanic on a late Sunday night to open his shop, fetch his tools, repair the puncture and go back... I really owe it to there guys for the incredible help, support and being able to make it back home yesterday. Such is soloing... you don't have a friend all along and then you make such memorable and fond friendships all over the place... I can never forget these guys and i'm pretty sure due to my scary demeanor that they'd remember me too .

Time for some seriousness; looks like the mildness is taken for granted!
Everyone please follow the drill on riding gears and if someone is found reporting for rides without'em, be ready for concussive shots of humiliation. And yea, no saying 'leather jackets' as excuse - Puny bike owners such as myself are spending on gears and another rider with a bigger machine is cribbing about the expenses; it is inconceivable! So you are saying that you are having a hard time managing cash for gears while you ride an expensive engine, carry 2/3 smartphone/tab to check GPS and a DSLR with a few additional 'bazooka' type lenses - And you expect others to believe that you don't have enough for GEAR, DAFUQ! *ajeeb c@#$!*

Kindly show some compassion and don't come for rides without the minimum, rather spend time on the site learning more. If this continues, official G2G ride plans will look like this in sometime:
This is the plan, come at your will, ride as you like, crash as comfortably as you can, crack your pot just a bit, I don't know you & you don't know me - who gives a fcuk, enjoy, drag, stunt, kill other road-users gracefully etc. And yea, don't forget to flash the xBhp sticker or wake the dead & say that I am a biker, rider & a xBhpian, YOU HEARD ME?!

Phew!

And Vykier - I am expecting to read some more, in Tourer section to be more specific your writing is refreshing to read any day!!! Fantastic captures BTW.

Someone send him to write for some travelogues man, new writer on the roll.

PS: Bangalore chapter is getting wild, crazy and interesting day by day with its best riders, photographers and writers. Bacha kaun hai...ooops main sirf the big time spectator :P :P

PSS: Advyth bhai aka Vykier , best ting about your rides is that you ridden it solo. To attain the Nirvana of rides and and enjoy the quiteness inside the lid SOLO rides are best

"ARAAM" or you mean to say "RESTING" well what to say. Yes I am just off from riding, and will take sometime to be back on my steed.
My stars are just not my side.
Health and professional life both seriously down and so staying away from my passion my love for some unknown indefinite amount of time.
