The Premium fuels sold in our country by IOC (Xtra Premium), BP are not high octane ones, they only contain certain fuel additives. People have different views on this. But, if we are talking about higher octane fuels (97...) then it makes difference only in high compression engines. In regular engines like that of our Pulsar regular fuel will do the job, higher octane means higher amount of heat generated which might do harm to our engines. Thus, higher octane fuel usage depends on the type of engines. But, this Xtra premium and others are no more than a marketing gimmick. You can't make a dog jump higher by feeding him pedigrees.

Try switching between Regular and Premium fuels, if you think there's a change then its psychological.

I tried this long ago in my AREA.
What i did was,Normally i use regular petrol from indian oil. Then i used xtra premium and then moved back to normal petrol from indian oil and lastly i tried regular petrol from HP.

              observations

1)When using the xtra premium i found that the bike was much smoother and responded better than when using normal petrol from indian oil.

2)When i moved back to normal petrol from indian oil,it was rougher and lagging was evident when giving the throttle.

3)when i tried regular petrol from HP i found it to be as good as xtra premium one.

So i guess, pulsar needs just normal petrol but the quality of normal petrol varies from company to company. That is the problem we are facing. Here i found HP's normal petrol performing just the same as xtra premium from Indain oil.The best thing to do is to use good quality regular petrol.

that concept is wrong higher octane does not mean that higher amount of heat will be generated during combustion , the truth is on the contrary higher the octane number lesser the heat generated during the combustion cooler the engine runs and therefore better for the engine , it is one of the reasons why racing engines rune on high octane fuels or aviation gasoline

Oh!! Thanks for the correction. But, I read somewhere that higher octane fuel if filled in our normal engines produce extra heat, will post the article if I find it.

nope actually using higher octane fuels are good for the engine , infact higher octane fuels eliminates knocking

So u r suggesting that we should always put high octaine fuel. Well till date I was only filling normal petrol for the first time I got a full tank of speed and to my notice the bike has become more smooth and less of heat is there from the engine even if I rip her. so the final word is always get speed put or I should do 2 tanks full of speed and 1 tank full of normal always then again 2 tanks full of speed. Give your suggestions

my friend you can run pulsar on regular or premium fuels whichever you feel is better in any ratio you like , but to get consistent quality of fuel it is important that you choose the petrol pumps , wisely and tank up from the same pump as much as possible.... the smoothness is a direct result higher octane number of the fuel

Speed or Xtra Premium are not higher octane fuels.

They just have mixed with them some additives which as per them increase mileage, performance of our engines.
