Its your call to go for the ffe but as said earlier keeping the bike in stock is much better. As even if we go ahead with the ffe the main thing is to get the sound right as there will be hardly any difference in the speed but yes for the sound you have to give a good throttle.

Even I was wanting to go in for Joel a long time back when a dear buddy here itself showed me a picture that there is some kind of a black wool in the silencer which get burnt an is not as easy to find in the market well you can if you wish to change your stock sound for 8500 rs.

Just go few pages back there is his post of Joel's exhaust. Which actually made me stay back on the stock. And honestly I am happy with the smooth and. Silent ride of my bike. Keeping her stock and crossing my figures that she stays like this I will be happy as today if you go to the work shop for one work you will end up getting 2 spoilt by the mechanic. Its my personal experience.

So my friend stick with the stock you will always have a smile on your face.
Good luck to all and happy ridding.

Tried and tested FFEs are not available for Indian bikes from any reputed brands. Exhausts are not plug and play devices for any bike. Try this simple test..Keep your mouth closed and blow air through your nose alone..considering it as stock exhaust. Then, open your mouth as well and blow air, considering it as FFE. Your mouth gets dried up soon when used to breath. Similarly, the bike will feel unusual in its working too. When the stock or FFE is to be designed, a lot of testing has to be done to ensure the engine doesn't get fed up. FFE tend to remove the gases faster which, under high speed runs and without proper tuning, could suck up burning gases into exhaust creating back fire and burnt valves. The thing is, any engine modification will require extensive tuning to ensure reliability and performance. Coming to your point, Joel exhausts are designed for p220 which has larger cc and different backpressures compared to our p180. So it will require tuning to match p180's outputs.. Hope you understand the reasons

Alrighty then, sticking to stock setup.

By the way, I removed that rubber funnel thing under the seat, near the air filter. Bike is now making a nice grunty sound. What is the purpose of that and would removing it affect my bike in a negative manner?

It's just for making sure water doesn't enter the filters. Also, it prevents the falling of big dust particles directly into the filters. During water wash and rainy seasons, keep it back in place. For normal riding, it is not much issue.

Hey guys.. My bike had ran in this lean condition for more than 900kms on new oil mostly at speeds above 5k rpm. Any problems to be seen? Any precautions to observe?? Also, AFAIK, lean mix must increase mileage but in my case, the max I got was around 42 kmpl. Twice the mileage within city under sedate riding gave 38kmpl. How is this possible??

Spark color looks good. By sedate riding did you mean that the bike never crossed 5000 rpm? because if thats the case than 38 is too less, if one rides within the 4500 - 5000 rpm and never going beyond that than 180 is capable of returning 45- 48 kmpl.

Yep. It was completely within city and the riding was calm manner. The bike tends to overheat to much and it seems like someone is pulling the bike from behind. Hence the assumption..

That is a cause of worry mate, i understand, have it retuned. if its over heating that signifies that the bike is running too lean, if thats the case than it would effect the mileage aswell. i hope the air filter has already been checked and cleaned. whats the state of clutch plates?

Air filter cleaned by me around 1000kms back. Odo at 13.8k kms. Clutch plates seem ok to me with good grip. Also, bike struggles to gain speed beyond 8k rpm. Riding doubles is a nightmare as there is knocking sounds when accelerating and mild knocking when holding steady speeds. Rpm varies by 800rpm(cold idle-1k rpm, warm-1.4k rpm, hot conditions-1.9k rpm) and is not steady. Also, bike struggles to pull up inclines. Effect of lean mix? No cold start problems though..

I m facing the same issues. One more is that, with a pillion, i feel the rear tyre is getting a bit tight, like its skipping a beat or something.

                          Hi
From my personal observation on my own machine it seems that you are having a very lean mixture.
Few determinants of Lean mixture are:
1)Knocking from the engine at specific rpms or while accelerating quickly
2)Bike fails to gain its top speed or the top speed attained is in a slow
                          Manner
3)engine gets very heated even though one has changed engine oil recently
If your not having cold start problem then the fuel supplied by the pilot jet is doing its job perfectly but mainjet and the throttle valves are failing to push enough air and fuel into the engine causing a lean mixture even though your getting an avg mileage instead of a good one.

Try getting hold of a good mechanic and seek if the carb/air filter requires cleaning or replacement.
In ucal ug4 carbs provided by the bajaj the rubber valves gets damaged after a considerable period of time and requires replacement.
Although it was what I faced on my bike and once I replaced the rubber valves inside the carb it was all good to go.
Let me know if this solves your problem

                            Hello bhpians,
Its been a long time I posted in this forum. I have seen many people commenting on mileage in their bikes. Here are my views and personal experience about the MILEAGE.

                            1. Sunlight: During hot noons, or by parking on direct sunlight, petrol in the tank evaporates and gets locked in the tank itself. Some of it will escape through the tank cap. While riding the pulsar in sunlight, the tank gets vaccumed ( negative pressure) if the fuel is less than one litre ( unsolved by Bajaj). So we feel the fuel is emptied and we switch to reserve. In reserve the fuel is above 2.6 liters and vacccum will be negligible. Now, we get a bad mileage ( around 38). Again when we fill the tank in evening, the gas form of petrol in the tank condense and deposit in the tank itself. During refill even if we fill known quantity, we will get a good mileage.

                            2. Quality/Quantity: This point depends on petrol bunk. Quantity is competly dependent on the flow rate of the pump. They can alter the flow rate. If they use too high speed, it will pump only gas and not petrol. Some fuel stations wont give you petrol in bottles, because they get caught. So beware.
The other issue is quality. For our compression ratio of 9.5, Octane rating of 90 is necessary. Which a Duke 390 wont get for its 12.88.
Our fuel is completely adulterated( see yesterday there was a strike, because they get less commissions). I recommend to use a faithful pump. May be shell, speed etc. I use the first outlet of MRPL in mangalore, best fuel i get in my city.

                            3. Overhauling tank changes mileage: Once I had removed my tank to change its tap. I overturned the tank to do so. Fuel around 20ml was leaked through the cap. Eventhough I got unbelievable run of 198kms for fuel of price 200rs.

Procedure I used to check my MILEAGE.
                            1. I used a 300ml external tank. ( costing 300rs)
                            2. Disconnected my tank pipe.
                            3. Filled exactly 50ml of fuel.
                            4. I checked for every A/F ratio, I rode my bike till off.

                            Result:
My bike ran exact 3 km for 50ml. I got a good mileage of 60 kmpl for 4 rounds of air screw. Practically I got 52 kmpl.
Now I am getting around 43-48 kmpl for mixed riding conditions. If I go to Mangalore I fill my tank in MRPL for which it returns me 48-54 kmpl. Too happy about the pump and suggested for others too. For a bike like 390, MRPL would be best among fuel outlets in Mangalore.

Problems that occur due to adulterated fuel.
                            1. Diaphragm rubber will shrink. It will not hold vaccum. We can easily trace the dark orange deposits.
                            2. Float which is a very light device, shrinks and becomes heavy. It looses the ability of blocking the fuel to carb tank. Hence we get overflows.
                            3. Carbon deposits in the head.
These are my views based on personal experience. I am sorry that I didn't provide any remidies to solve the issue of adulterated fuel ( which is impossible)
I think riders in BS4 cities don't have these problems. Only states like Karnataka Kerala and Tamilnadu have these issues. The RTO collets a tax of 15% in Karnataka on new vehicles. It doesn't provide good roads, no quality of fuel.
And still its not ready to go for CNG because, it increases mileage. For which they get less income.
They torture other state vehicles which stay more than a month to pay life tax ( now its resolved by court).
The only time that makes me tension free is when I ride my wheels

My trust old pal bajaj pulsar 180 ug4 has developed some problems,
I am facing serious electrical problems. few days ago my bikes display gave up but rest of the electricals like start button, horns and etc worked fine.
But now the bike is completely dead, battery is fine I checked myself, I have been facing this issue for long time, something or the other electric unit stops working, I take it to a local mechanic he takes two hours and it starts and he insists to keep the bike and leave it for two hours and showroom people are like witch hunters, they will say change this and we will see if it works or we will change the next thing and keep on changing till the bill exceeds my bike present value.

                              Thanks in advance.
