Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
Chain adjusters man, the length of chain is not that important when going up/down a few teeth. The P200NS which uses the same chain sprocket as P180 UG4 runs the 14/39 setup stock, with 13 mm longer wheelbase than P220 (1363 mm of P200NS vs. 1350 mm P220). The chain and the front sprocket is same in all three cases, just the number of teeth on the rear sprocket is different (36T) in case of P220 DTSi.Originally posted by Jackson Andrade View PostI am back!

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
Though sir, Chains have no businesses with wheelbase. The factor they depend on is swingarm length. Now i need to check swingarm lengths in each case.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostChain adjusters man, the length of chain is not that important when going up/down a few teeth. Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
In that case, both p180 and p220 use same swingarms. Both are interchangeable(since rear disc of p220 is a direct fit for p180)..Originally posted by Jackson Andrade View PostThough sir, Chains have no businesses with wheelbase. P220 and P180 UG4 swingarms are interchangeable. Wheelbase matters in case of chain length too, as you can only alter the rake trail certain degree without seriously affecting the handling.Originally posted by Jackson Andrade View PostThough sir, Chains have no businesses with wheelbase. Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
The centre distance between sprockets in P180 is 509.0975mm. And that of P220 is 519.6586mm. There is difference of 10.56mm.In real world there will be extension. My chain tensioner is at the end line with a smaller 36T sprocket and stock chain which run for 4K kms. I will confirm everthing on monday with pictures and part number from catalogue.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostP220 and P180 UG4 swingarms are interchangeable. Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
This is my P180 with 36 teeth. It sits in the endline. In P220 default chain with 104 links and 36 teeth sit at the beginning of the adjuster. Right?
Now if we increase the sprocket size to 39, then it will sit beyond the chain adjuster, which is not possible.
However due to extension after 3-4K kms, it may sit in position. According to me there is some difference in swing arm lengths. Because the swingarm of P180 is DJ 1710 35 and that of 220 is DK 1710 11. Also the frame assemblies (chassis) numbers are also different for P180 and P220S models.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
AFAIK the difference lies in the place where the swingarms are attached to the chassis. If the chainstay you mentioned are correct (I don't have access to motorcycles to measure it myself) the length of chain required for P180UG4 with stock 14T/39T would be 54.769 inches and for P220 DTSi with stock 14T/36T would be 54.785 inches which are pretty close to each other.
Since chain length/pitch is the number of links on a chain, it comes to 105.326 links and 105.356 links for P180UG4 and P220 DTSi respectively. Bajaj uses the same chain with 104 links since chain links can not be in odd numbers (Our values could be slightly off too, due to decimals, also there is always a slight difference between theoretical values and practical ones, but the point I'm trying to put forward is that the length is almost same.)
On a P220 DTSi with 14T/39T setup, the length of the chain would be 55.611 inches, a difference of 0.826 inches, which is quite possible for a chain to accommodate as it stretches with uses and there are adjusters for chain.
Your current optimal chain length is 53.942 inches. In your case the difference is 0.827 inches which is almost same with that of the P220, but the point being in your case, the length needs to be decreased not increased like the case with your friend, that's why you are having problems.
The calculations are for new unstretched chain and yours would need to be cut by two links.I am back!

The pitch is 0.520, then chain length=0.52*104 links.= 54.08 inches.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostAFAIK the difference lies in the place where the swingarms are attached to the chassis. And that will be same for both P180 and P220.
Mechanical extension is not considered and chain is assumed to be brand new.
However a brand new P180 chain cannot be a direct fit for P220. I confirmed it from my friend (whom using my 39 teeth sprocket) who also told that it not direct fit. He fitted directly because his chain had already slackened enough to accomodate it. And also adjusters are also having working limit. In pulsar, chain can have maximum extension of 2.5cm more than the centre distance. I donot have 220 with me now to prove it. You told there is some difference in mounting the swing arms. Ofcourse there is. Tomorrow evening if possible i will post photo of the 220 with 39teeth which i mentioned above. Thank you

Sorry my bad. Pitch of P180 and P220 is 0.52". I considered 0.529". Sorry for my misleading thoughts. Human error always exist

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
Is it okay to use Motul 5100 15w50 for my new 2014 pulsar 180 with 500 kms on the odometer ? During the bike's first service, those guys at bajaj put Bajaj 10000 Dts-i 20W40 (actually recommened one is 20w50) which is the worst. Engine gets heated too much and the gear shift got lot harder and overall gives me worst riding experience. I read Motul 5100 15w50 is semi synthetic. Is it okay to use ? Please suggest.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
You can and should replace the oil with any 20w50 or 15w50 Bike oil asap . My suggestion is to use a mineral oil like Motul 3000 4T plus 15w50 since the bike is so new . Do not tell your Bajaj service about this oil change , since not using their Dtsi oil may void your warranty

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
For the time being let the bajaj oil run for about 2k kms. Since new bike, gear shifts will be hard and engine heat is normal. Bajaj oil is also good. It is semi synthetic. So my sugesstion is after 2k use motul 5100 ss. Also in my opinion mak nxt ss is also good.Originally posted by acushle View PostIs it okay to use Motul 5100 15w50 for my new 2014 pulsar 180 with 500 kms on the odometer ? Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)
That sound is from the timing chain. Its normal on hot engines. Regarding oil, I think you should change it to correct grade as soon as possible. Go for mineral for first few thousand kilometers. A new engine will always overheat due to high wear and friction. The trick is to ensure that the engine doesn't overheat which can lead to poor run-in.Originally posted by vasili View Posthow bout if the engine is running around 30mins and and a hour...
i hear the engine kinda noisy....and metal to metal thing?
