  • Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)

I have a new 2014 pulsar 180. Done 600 kms only. I have noticed a change in my bike after its first free service:

Engine rpm reaches maximum limit quickly. For eg: when I am in 2nd gear at 15-20 km/h, engine makes roaring noise and I have to change to next gear and so on. What could be the reason for this ?

Although bajaj dts-i 10000 20w50 is the recommended oil grade, it was not available during the first service so they put in 20w40. could this be the reason ?

Also does new 2014 pulsar 180 come with an oil filter ?

Change the oil as soon as possible to recommended grade. You can change to other mineral oils too but do not mention it to the ASC. Yes, oil can cause strained engine sounds. I don't think 2014 models have oil filter. All ug pulsars have oil strainer though...

when should the oil change be done while the engine is hot or cold ?

Duh, when it's easy to take out a high density oil (let's say butter) ... hot or cold ..?

Little warm engine... Preferably when it's run around a km or two.... This allows the oil to remove all grime and dirt from the engine.....

There is no pressing need to go synth or ss , you may continue to use mineral . Bajaj does not specify synthetic oil for the bike and I doubt you shall have any problems running the bike on mineral only . My policy with oil is to buy the cheapest oil which I can afford to drain every 2000kms or 4 months max , whichever comes earlier . And I always drain the old oil very hot - i.e after a long ride and I check the oil level once a month , topping it up if needed . This way my bike is always running on good fresh oil to the correct level , always . This is what is necessary for a healthy engine , rather than expensive oils .

For that ,motul 3100 20w50 gold is the best .,
Costs 300-310₹ per litre ,holds too good even on p200Ns,so would be like a child's thing on 180.

                  Thanks.
Moto 4 gold 20w50. Try it, its a mineral oil can go for 2500 km cost is 260 rs. Worth it. Every penny.

                  • Low pick up on Pulsar 180 UG4

                    Hi everyone,
I am currently facing issues on the pick up of my Pulsar 180 UG4. It has ran for just 25000kms and I am not getting the desired or the normal pick up on my bike. Moreover it takes a lot of time to jump above 5000rpm. Help!

After my new 2014 pulsar 180's first service, I noticed that bike jerks a lot in 1 & 2 gears while in traffic and after going only a few yards, I have to change the gear from 2nd to 3rd. Like the rpm of the bike reaches its maximum limit and I have to change gears quickly often and its been frustrating changing gears up and down in heavy traffic. When my bike was new, I got mileage of 40 kms now I get only 30-35 kms. What could be the issue ? please help.

Most likely to be carb tuning issue. Take it to ASC and ask them to tune it properly.

Is there overflow in the carb? Do you smell petrol? If there, then change its float. The float will shrink due to prolonged use for about 35000kms. Thats why during low RPM's bike gives jerk. And for higher range, float sits in exact place. Also check the float comp needle for wear and tear.
Bikes parked for a long time without draining fuel from carb, tend to shrink their float very soon. Terefore the manufacturers insist to drain carb and disconnect battery during prolonged parking.

The only time that makes me tension free is when I ride my wheels

Yes. Its a common problem in pulsars. Check the carb, clean it. Replace float. Decarbonize head. Change plugs. Change filter. And thats all can be done.

Thank you. I am planning to change the spark plugs. Could you suggest something on this? What is a float?could you explain.
also I think my mechanic screwed up the tuning of the carb.

Float is a small plastic device inside the carburettor tank. Float floats on petrol. So when petrol is fully stored, it ceases its flow with a comp.pilot.pin which is attached to it. When it is kept wet for a long time in petrol, it shrinks and looses energy to cease fuel flow. So during 20-30 kmph, petrol will overflow in the pipe connected in its bottom. We get continuous jerks because the fuel ratio varies. And during high engine rotations vaccum in the carb makes extra fuel in the carb to flow directly to the engine. So less chances of overflow.
We get less pickup only because of dust in carburettor.
And a mechanic has idea about tuning. So he won't screw with it.
