Can someone give me the spare parts list for Pulsar 180 UG3 model? I have given the bike for replacing block piston, crank, cam, valves, valve guide, brakes, clutch plate, pressure plate, timing chain/ kit, some lathe work, diesel wash/ servicing and all that which is required to a local mechanic who claims to put genuine Bajaj parts. The bike has clocked 1 Lakh Kilometers and was due for this major work.

I want to check is he quoting the correct price for this or not. Since his handwriting is poor, I am writing down the price of some of the parts that I can read from the quotation. Please let me know if this is correct or not.

Bike- Dec' 06 Pulsar 180 UG3

1. Block piston- 1960/-
2. Clutch plate- 950/-
3. Crank- 3500/-
4. Labor charge- 2500/- extra.
5. Front disc pad- 300/-
6. Rear brake liner- 280/-
7. Some Lathe work- around Rs. 700/

Tagging @lockhrt999 for assistance.
1. Block piston Part number ug3 - DJ101222 but compatible with ug4 - DJ101371
2. Clutch plate Part Number this is tricky, just remember it might be compatible with UG4 but not with UG2( ug2 comes with 6 plates with same number of groves/cubs. ug3 and ug4 also have 6 plates but 4 plates have 36 cubs and fifth one with 40 cubs and 6th one with 48 cubs)
i will try to get the part number for this by evening.

3. Crank part number ug3 - DJ101223 but compatible with ug4 - JC101001
4. Labor charge- 2500/- extra. try bargaining

also adding Valve kit - Part number - 35DJ1004 ( just in case if you need it) and valve seal - 39201719 (both are same for UG3 and UG4)

Prices quoted are pretty much inline with what you pay after tax at service center. for example the crankshaft can be bought for about 3200-3300 with bill at ASC. so try bargaining with him just a bit.

well, with speed not exceeding 60-65 kmph, i get around 48 - 52 kmpl easily, ( i do get very sensible about speed around the end of the month to curb fuel bill )

That's good mileage but the thing is I travel at a minimum of 70kmph. Twice I travelled at 90kmph and got less than 35kmpl. I'm completely confused at this. Mileage under 4k rpm is in your range though..

its completely understandable. my daily commute is 103 kms(both up down), 80% of which is highway. riding at constant 60 kmph does get boring, so i dont do it every day, just during the last week of the month sometimes. But usually i too ride at 90-100 kmph and a bit more on empty stretches and this is when mileage does drop below 40 kmpl( and it should, considering that more fuel is fed and burnt in combustion chamber. faster you go, more fuel will burn, we have to accept it.)

so its simple, for some days ride it like a street fighter ,like the way its meant to be, just rev it rip it and live it,
than ride it like a commuter and save fuel and money for some days, that keeps things on an even keel. best of both worlds.

Still, the change over is pretty sharp I think. Upto 85kmph, the mileage hovers around 44-47.. At exactly 90kmph, it drops to less than 35kmpl. Guess thats TRICS working its way...

that is quiet drastic and intresting, i never observed that. i have only two modes for riding, one is to keep it below 65 kmph at all cost( this is to calculte mileage )
and in second mode i just rev it rip it live it, no speed boundry here, i just rev it till the engine gives up

but now i'll try limiting to 80-85 kmph and calculate mileage, i'll let you now by end of next week about the outcome

as for trics, yup, its a funny piece of engineering, god know at what rpm which spark plug does what, one shuts at certain range, another starts at certain range, and something and so forth, So yes that might indeed have something to do with mileage.

AFAIK, both spark plugs are activated at the same time. Only difference is that they are activated at varied ignition timings based on throttle level. Also, if one spark plug is used at one time upto particular rpm, it could lead to carbon deposit on the unused plug.
BTW, the bike is awesome at 90kmph operating at max torque but the mileage kills the feeling..

2. During run in period, the bike engine will overheat. This is common. This problem will be noticed more due to w40 grade oil. If it heats too much, it could be due to lean/mileage tuning. Ask the SVC guys to retune the carb.

3. Generally overheated/milage tuned engine tends to be louder. Also check if oil level is correct when cold.

I am thinking to change the 20W40 oil those guys at service center put in during my P180's first free service. I noticed that engine gets heated too much than before an the gear shift has also got harder than before. I dont want to use bajaj oil anymore. Can someone please suggest the BEST oil for my new 2014 pulsar 180 (done 500 kms only till now) ?

Thanks.

There are many 20w50 oils for bikes available. From this thread, I heard motul 3100 and valvoline syntiyum are good.. don't go for fully synthetic now.

Cleaner it's said that karizma's front sprocket is direct compatible with our bikes. So just asking will that be reliable for saddle sore?

Read the manual to find out how to read the oil level. Usually it is done on warm oil after 5 mins. I dont own a pulsar 180.
If it is less, put 100 ml increments and check again.

P180 needs 1l oil. Best to check oil level on mornings before starting bike. If your bike if fitted with oil cooler, its 1.15l as in p220. Else the engine may be taking oil..

I'm having problem with memorizing things post stroke but IIRC you have a P180 UG4 which comes with 14T front and 39T rear sprocket and chain pitch of .520, comprising of 104 chain links (Same chain sprocket as that of Pulsar 200NS).
You can use ZMA's 13T front sprocket which is a direct fit on both P180 UG4 and P200NS, but on P180 UG1 to UG3, they are not usable as the chain pitch is .428 (non O-ring chain).
You can go upto 15T in front sprocket on P180, after that there is no room left, on UG1 to UG3 you can go upto 17T, (18T could be possible but I don't know where you will get it here).
Below I have included a picture of P180 UG4's chain sprocket kit

On stock 14/39 setup, the ratio would be 2.786
On 13/39 setup (Using ZMA front sprocket), the ratio would be 3.000, which would be under gearing, meaning you would get better acceleration at the expense of lower top speed and lower fuel economy.
With a 13T setup you would be around 60kmph at 5k RPM while with the stock 14T setup, you would be around 70kmph (calculated in my head, not absolute values). Saddlesore is mostly about reliability and maintaining a steady speed over long distances, not about revving up and zip zapping. I'd suggest you keep the stock setup for SS, not because of reliability concern but because you need better top end for SS and exhaust note of a high revving engine (you'll have to rev it up more with a 13T to reach the same speed) is a distraction in the long run when the rider is comparatively more tired due to the long distance requirement of SS. (1,600 kilometers in 24 hours AFAIK).
I am back!
