Good point Ashwin, I've faced similar problem with my Splendor, 3-4 years back, which was rectified by mechanic, but don't remember what exactly he did it. It was having reserve problem somewhat similar to Kalli.

Please don't rely on reserve capacity to check the mileage. Always check Reserve-to-Reserve, which will show you the actuals.

      • ^^^ With a lean engine you'll get better mileage and quicker acceleration, but the negative effects are too much, so I recommend you retune your AFR.

43 in city is OK if not Good. How do you upshift in highways,i mean at what rpm. try shifting around 5K in each gear upto 5th so that you can make most out of it. Key is Minimum throttle at possible high RPM.Release the throttle in a while so that speed comes from 65 to 55 ad hence let it move few mts without throttle. Keeping ur throttle always open is not a good habbit forr mileage i guess. speed of >70 will reduce ur mileage for sure.Let ur bike
OPEN once in a week or two in a Highway . Also check for ut tyre pressure before leaving for a longer ride .

            • 43 kmpl in the city is somewhat good I believe.
I am getting only 35 kmpl only(sane driving) for my Hunk in Chennai traffic, I am travelling in I and II gears for almost 3 kms everyday out of my 8 km commuting. I think it should return more even then, believe my 120/80 rear tyre and half worn-out sprockets are the culprit.

I don't think these 150's will ever give above 50kmpl, as many claims.

Even my mileage king(as people say !) Splendor was giving only 55kms for me for normal-sane driving in rural areas.

It think pulsar 150 is giving 60+ on high way. also some of us r getting 60~70 on cbz.

I am getting 53+ on high way and 45~48 on city in 1,2 gears ride. before second service.
ride on 55~60, some time shoot up to 75 and wont last more that a minute

I got advice from my friend ho is a mechanic ho does mods to improve power, mileage... said you need to open only a max of 10% while on straight roads and shift all gears on proper rpm.

Rpm above a limit will not burn the fuel completely causing low mileage i think its 6000 its cbz

Yes Abhishek, even I have also heard people saying their Pulsar is getting 60+ mileage, they might be true to the best of their knowledge, but the way they check the mileage matters.

When the manufacturers claim their mileage in the ads, they used to put:
"Riding constantly 45-50 km/hr with rider + pillion of 140Kg" or something similar to this.

Some people check mileage by giving it to service centre, where they use the 100ml test, and obviously mileage will be higher.

And then, the tank-full-to-tank-full method, that too is not reliable as each time we will not be filling to the exact tank full mark.

IMO Reserve-to-Reserve is the right method to check mileage.

How can a Pulsar/CBZ/Unicorn with 14+ odd bhps beat the mileage of a less-weight 7.2 bhp Splendor in mileage, even if we say about the CV carb, DTS-i magics and all

But how that is going to help?
Your issue is capacity of the tank-reserve, right.
