Use a socket wrench. A normal spanner can damage the bolt for all you know.

Yesterday i tightened my chain at a local mechanic, now at 5th gear at 5k rpm speed is only 55kmph, it was 62kmph before tightening.. Don't know what happened
Lean or not, check your spark plug after a ride and post a picture of it here. Else, if the engine overheats quickly, it's a sign of a lean mixture.
And sound from the spark plug, are you sure it's not tappet noise?
And if you changed the Chain kit at the ASC, they won't let you change anything else but stock. And speed difference, no clue, would like someone to clarify it though.

By head gasket do you mean the steel gasket which is between the cylinder head and bore or the rubber head-cover gasket ?
For the head gasket,if the mating surface is clean and without any scratches - There is no need to use any sort of sealant. Sibun and other prefer to use Anabond 666/Tribond.

For rubber head-cover gasket(Packing) , you can use some sealant if re-using them. Not needed if the rubber gasket is new.

I shouldn't be tuned this way. If mixture is too lean then throttle response will be harsh and i'll not de-acclerate as it should be. Also spark plug will become white because of overheating. Correct mixture will give brownish/chocolate or reddish color.
Follow this guide here then report back http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post904152
Cold start problem means mixture is lean.

I cannot be a spark plug sound. You can't hear the spark plug sound ever, it is something else. Check if the wire attached to the plug cap is tight. And show your bike to any mechanic to what he says. Then reporting back will us a clue then we can tell you what is that actually.

Your chain is too tight. Open the rubber cover (i.e, chain peep hole) on the bottom chain cover and check if the chain has slack of 15~20 mm. If the chain is too tight then get it readjust from a different mechanic, ASAP.

That is the problem of spark and nothing else. Tell him to give a splash of water to spark plug cap only. If bike refuses to start then it is the problem of spark plug cap. Buy then original cap from OE. Give splash again and report back.

• Front brake pad removal and cleaning

Before rains set in i decided to clean my front brake , after help from here i successfully removed and cleaned them

Step 1 . Pull this pin out , you may use a nose plier for this .

2. After removal it will look something like this

Now use a pointed tool like a drift or a blunt nail to put hit in the hole shown in above picture , i used an obsolete tool this .

3. Now after the pin comes out the pads will be free and will fall or just pull them out no problem.
4. Using mild soap solution clean the pads . On left is the cleaned pad and on right is uncleaned one

5. After cleaning leave pad in sunlight for 10-15min and refit them back , You may use bit (little) of grease on pin which was driven out using drift .

6. Drive around and see change in braking , I saw that mine pads were from ANL brand and were like metals

It will take sometime to gain the bite
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

Finally adjusted the tappets on my Hunk this morning. Did not get 0.12 mm feeler gauge, so went with 0.10 mm and 0.08 mm strips. DIY coming up soon!

Now I'm not sure which gasket I need to change. There is oil leaking from the head basically. So I want to replace the gasket(s) responsible to stop the leak.

Which gasket do I need for this?

Also, can anyone help me source this part: 12195-KVE-900

It's not available with the stockist here. It's the rubber insert!

ashwin: based on this picture, can you tell us which part is the engine oil leaking from? For the top 'cover' there is a rubber gasket. I doubt whether the lower gasket is a 'steel' gasket. AFAIK, the new gasket kits of HMC are like a recycled paper compound. shoeb, sibun: any insights?
I got my replaced some 4000 kms back. Rs. 43.00 incl. taxes.

Head gasket is a metal gasket and holds the compression pressure.

The Engine Head Cover Gasket from your picture. Initially, oil was only at the top of the head's fins. But it is seeping down lower now. Since I am replacing it, I assume I won't have to use any sealant and I have to get the rubber gasket?

I have used this in my CD-Dawn. For me the oil is good for first 1000 km but it can't stay longer than 1500 km. Yes its confusing that its not listed in Gulf website and there is very less availability. Also the price is too much low. Its not too good oil you should better go for Veedol take off or super swift, both are best. Its not worth testing it.

Slackness again is a very subjective term.
15-30mm slack of drive chain at the centre is admissible, not more. Tighter the chain, faster the wear and tear of sprocket and chain, harder gear shifts, etc.
More slack (loose)> significant power loss, engine lugging sometimes, low FE, etc.

And veedol super swift is a wonderful oil. No second thoughts about it. Take of 4T 10W30 is mineral. Super Swift 10W40 is SS. If you're only 3K on the odo, I suggest you still run on mineral. My is 8000 kms + and I am still running on mineral. Will go for Super Swift 10w40 SS in my next oil change.
