Also maintain the speed between 50-60km/h and don't rev hard.

My hunk is giving good mileage for 2 year as of now.
Changed the spark plug, got Apache twin head, my Hunk now is a different bike all together. Very smooth, no jerks better pick up. Will now test FE.

License plate lamp change DIY

Hello, all. This is a simple DIY that me and Souritra[xBhp id: bobisbacktorock] did today afternoon. Ever since I saw that white led on Riaz bhai ka 390D, I wanted one on mine too. Noticed tat my bulb had went kaput and I never realised it.
Okay, be warned that this DIY will consume atleast an hour. Out of which the bulb changing part will take only 10-15 minutes.
Bob made me this 0.5W white led. You can either make one yourself or buy one. Former is suggested.

Strip down the complete side fairings, remove grab rails and pull out the rear lamp assembly. The pull out this particular plug. This is your license lamp holder.

Next, pull out the old bulb out of the holder and replace it with the led. Make sure the led is angled properly so it falls on your license plate.

Bend the led to required angle. This depends on the size of your led holder.

Update!

My bike's head still leaks oil. The threads that hold the head cover had been stripped(By me, I think) when the tappets were being adjusted. Haven't found the time to get the bike serviced. Need to get this done.

On the bright side, I have now switched to Shell Super Petrol. Sure, it costs Rs. 89.25 here in Bangalore. But it seems to go well with the Big Bore and the Head Work.

I recently filled Super Petrol for Rs. 200 and the bike returned 111.1km for (200/89.25) liters of fuel inside the city. That was about 49.6kmpl which is the highest my bike has ever managed to return. This was with sedate riding with no sudden acceleration, deceleration, unnecessary revving etc.

Experienced that other fuels don't give me the same results. Although, I am yet to try Speed petrol.

Also, a few suggestions required. Bike is about to hit 27000km now. What would you recommend I get checked up or changed during the service?

My extreme has the same bulb from factory and light is very bright. Moreover the old extreme had 125W altrernator with 8 poles whereas the digital model from 2011 onwards has 140W alternator with 12 poles of coil.

It got an accident on the very first day of purchase and used by aged person. Now from last 20 days i am using. It fell down on Right side(as i can see scratches). But it goes smooth at high speed, don't go to either side. What may be possible problem of touching disk brake on free rotation?
2.) Will it be better to use TVS apache twin head spark plug?

Hi,
I recently went for a 850km ride, covered it in 3 days.
My ride made no hesitation and pulled me and my fried + 2 bags of luggage at 70~90kmph
Before the ride, I filled in shell 10W40 SS and changed chain sprocket kit.
now its 27.5K on odo

I am hearing some loose sound like a sheet metal vibrating or some thing similar. Can only hear when climbing up hill or down on engine break.
I suspect its from petrol tank, how can I find if any thing inside tank is loose?

I also suspect the sound is form inside the engine and the chain inside engine.
when is the time to adjust the chain inside engine?

Also tappets are little loose, should I approach a SVC or a local mechanic. for 10K my ride didn't visited any service center.

• Use of NGK IR plugs in HUNK

Is it possible to use NGK CR8EIX iridium spark plugs in Hero Honda Hunk??

• re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk

NGK CPR8EA9 is oe, so iridium should be direct fit, but NGK G power is vfm and requires almost no cleaning. G power is cheaper than iridium model. IX model costs 550 whereas G power costs half.

It is fairly common for the top cover screw to seize when it is not touched for long time, just keep tapping the screw head with a blunt punch and a hammer and it should get free.
Then try to unscrew it by pressing the screw driver hard so that it does not slip and damage the screw head. Still, if it does not turn then repeat the tapping with hammer &blunt punch.
It can take upto 10mins in some cases, perfectly normal.
I have tried it several times... but no result... very hard to open the cylinder....
Now what should i do..????? pls advice....

Go to mech and ask whether he has carbide tip wala screwdriver, Its tip is very hard and doesnt deform. If screwdriver isnt working, you might need to use impact driver to open it, but i dont think it will be jammed that bad. Here is a jugad we did on my friend's Apache, use a screwdriver and hammer it on screw few times, then tell him to apply force on screw from top and using a wrench or plier you try to turn it, this will too open the screw.

Another update, today, I found this anomaly in the reflector. There seem to be tiny bubbles just above the bulb holder. I assume it's because of the increased heat from the 55/60W bulb I fit more than 18 months ago?

And the following pictures are results of an unknown incident that occurred while I was waiting inside the Basavanagudi Post Office.

The mudguard is scratched.

These are closeup pictures, so the scratches aren't as big as they seem to be.

RohIIT is right. Many times, I've had to wrestle a stubborn screw as well. And almost always ended up damaging the head, only to end up going to a mechanic who would tap it a few times with an "Impact Screwdriver" and it would then be unscrewed with utmost ease.

@sibun : About to be 27,000km, what do you suggest I get checked up/changed? I'm eager to have the Front Fork oil changed this time as the bike makes a kat-kat sound when I play the front shocks, and also get the Oil Filter cleaned. It's never, ever been cleaned. Besides these, I need to get the leaky Head also fixed.

ashwin.terminator- For 27k service you can go for following jobs:-1. Clean the brake pads and clean the calliper pins. Also grease the calliper pins.2. Change the fork oils with Motul or Escort shock oil.3. Open the clutch cover and clean the oil strainer and also open the centrifugal cleaner and clean that of any debris. 4. Fill fully synthetic oil like Honda throttle or Motul 5100 semi-synthetic.5. Check the rear shock and if is soft thenhjarden it by sliding towards hard by one notch.6. Open the battery terminals and clean it with emery paper.7. Get the tappets adjusted and also check the timing chain tensioner for any noise.8. Clean the drive chain with diesel and lube it with gear oil.9. Check the discs for any scratches and bends.10. Since you have fitted the big bore that means your bore has not run for 27k so no need to open head and valves. In fact my extreme at 28k still doesn't require head cleaning as it is running on highways at high rpm most of the time.Pretty much these and if any specific doubt then ask me.For the reflector, yes it is because of the 60/55 w bulb. Nothing to worry, let it be like that. For the head cover bolts then go to lathe and get brass bush set. I will post the pictures of brass bush at weekend, so please wait for it. Actually the original threads are made on aluminum and have on it two threads, so gets stripped. By making brass bush and inserting, it will last forever jith.in- Take it to a mechanic and he will open it. After that get two bajaj chetak headlight screws and fit. Since it is '-' head screw so next time will be easy to open.

Hi Sibun,

I got my bike after service, as i said they have just changes Camshaft and as you suggested i changed the head gasket and asked them to use a thin layer of Gasket sealant on the new gasket. I verified everything, also they have changed my sparkplug.

I asked them to check for Clutch plate, chain sprocket, chain slack, airfilter as i was experiencing hard gear shift (Which i even suspected for vibration).
But even after the service, i m facing hard gear shift (esp 4th and 5th gear), to remind u, i m using Motul 3000 10W30 oil (Didnt top up after oil leakage).
On running, if i hold to clutch, i can sense vibrations on Brake pedal and gear shifter.
I still face the sluggishness eventhough not everytime. After some X kilometers , facing hard gear shift and sluggishness

Thinking of doing these on my own now

1) Check for chain slack (2.5 inch).
2) Check Air filter.

For others , i m searching for good mechanic, can you please tell me whether i need to do anything more than this.
