  • re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk

i have a cbz xtreme clocked 62,000 kms.

both front and rear tyres are 30,000 km old.

the front handle bar shakes above speed of 50. rear wheel also has wobble. bike wavers to side when going through bumps

mechanics said that i could be due to front bent alloys or worn out tyre. no accidents or fall upto now.

i would like to know if it's possible to swap my karizma alloy wheel to cbz to narrow down the issue. guess both have same rim size. karizma has bigger front disks. will it be a problem in swapping?

and also for rear wheel wobble what needs to be checked?

May be Meteor is much better than Zapper Q in all terrain, but I can feel more grip in wet/slippery and tarmac at least better than stock tyre...

        Hello friends,
As i said, there was leakage problem in front fork of my bike. Today went to ASC, they told me that they will change oil seal & oil on right side fork. I insisted to change oil of both forks. That mechanic removed complete assembly of right side fork, completely disassembled it & changed oil seal along with oil. He used VEEDOL make fork oil. Its grade was not mentioned on the bottle later i checked its neither on its website too. He empties whole bottle of 175 ml into fork & put fork cap. I asked him to pump the fork to remove air but he said it don`t required any such thing as it requires in disc break only. I was like.. He pumped fork after fitting fork cap. for left side fork he just removed cap, drained oil & this time also filled complete bottle of 175 ml, did same as did for right side fork. This time also i asked him to pump fork but he denied & gave same reason.
(I don`t understand Why hero Service center keeps such stupid maniacs. I remember they filled almost 1300ml of oil during 1st service & tightened my chain so tightly..)
Now after oil change i feel front suspension is giving me feeling little bit like cycle handle as its not as smooth as before. Also my hands were paining in same way like it was when i got bike & riding it for 1st time which disappeared later. In manual it say fork oil capacity is 175 ml on complete dis assembly. Should i continue riding my bike.? Will it make any further trouble to me..? What is fork travel length of xtreme. How to measure it.?
        Kindly advice

By pumping the forks air is dissipated which might have got caught inside, and this presense of air might be giving you trouble, becuase of which you are feeling that juddery kind of feel, just keep riding and i think your problem will vanish after some time.

AFAIK fork oil capacity of xtreme is 160ml on disassembly. Didn't heard about 175ml.

              +1 to that.
Even i felt the same issue after my bike's fork overhaul and I had reported the same here few months back.
But the issue disappeared over time.

I am also facing some problem with my front & rear forks, I have recently done the both front fork refill work done along with both oil seal got changed from my trusted mech, now after some one week or so, one of the front fork (Right side) leaking some little bit oil on the metal part which goes in & out while damping, if this does not capture the dust one cant notify it, but left fork is fine, mech said that fitting of the local oil seal is not use to be perfect for this problem and he asked me to bring the original ones from SVC and I will install them or you can just avoid the oil leakage as it is so little, what do you say guys...?

I have recently replaced my rear left fork with used one from KB in Delhi, but I am not able to hear fus-fus sound from it which is coming from the right fork as it is still the stock and this sound use to come from the old fork as well, but replaced one looks like almost as new and there is no problem with it, damping is fine or can you tell me how to check the damping because their is no visual damage or fault to identify or that fus-fus sound is necessary to have a perfect working fork...

Third problem is while applying front brake some kat-kat sound is coming from the cone set or somewhere from the front , but not from the fork, when I checked while in standing bike applying front brake push the bike to fork movement a kat-kat sound is coming, what it could be, has anyone faced similar problem...?

                • Re: Hero Hunk crash guard effectivenes..

                  Query Approved

First off, most crash guards in Indian bikes, especially, aren't designed to last after impact, as long as they have scratches they are fine. But once they are deformed significantly and mending them to their previous state, is totally a no brainer. The metal once deformed, loses its structural integrity for a next mishap. Though there are good old days when they had excellent crash guards, but nowadays it's very malleable with your bare hands, it's just there to protect your bike from a minor fall, so don't expect high speed protection.

If your guard is bent significantly, then consider replacing them. If it's just had some minor scratches, it shouldn't be big a problem.

                  Cheers!

This issue was faced by me as well. I got the handle bar tightened, and the kat kat sound was gone. But the handle became jammed and movement hampered.
So, finally I got the handle cone set replaced with SKF ones, and since then there is no such issue

I had shared the complete details on this post.

You can keep riding with little bit of leaking forks, but as the time passes leak will get prominent and you have to get the seal changed again, sometimes these mechanics don't install the seals properly or they damage the lip of the fork where the seal sits, so next time you go for a seal change first buy the genuine seal, oil, and check the condition of the fork outer tube.

Is the rear used shocker you are using repaired if that's the case you won't hear the sound.

kat-kat sound can occur from race bearing set just check the handle for any looseness, get it tightened, if the problems solves fine else change the race bearing set.

That mechanic deserves, a kick in the backside as he doesn't even qualify to be a mechanic.

First of all the extreme forks require 160 ml as in manual but it is better to go for 155 ml as more will cause rupture of oil seals. Next thing is that forks should be pumped vigorously for 10-20 times with top cap open so that air in pistons come out. If these things are done in right way then the forks will be as good as new. I would request you to open the fork top nut again and drain out 20 ml of oil and pump the fork properly and re-fit. By bike forks were refilled with new oil at 20k and now it is at 38k and still running smooth. So it is the quality of work that determines the lasting of forks.

When you use any parts then always use Genuine spares as Hero genuine spares are the best in quality. No other spares will come close to quality of OE spares. Do not avoid the oil seal leakage as the dust will scratch the pipe and then you have to go for new fork pipes. change both the oil seals to original.

As for the rear shocks let me tell you that Hero shocks are best and any after-market ones do not come close. Old shocks can never give that sound as new is new. And if you are changing the shocks then always change both and never single as it will cause un-even wear. Also since the GRS are expensive at Rs. 1900 per piece you can go for old model extreme oil filled shocks which cost Rs. 2600 per set and they never leak oil. The old model hydraulic shocks are the best as they are very long lasting. These gas shocks leak oil quicker than those old model oil seals.

As for the kat-kat sound look at the cone set will be loose, adjust it.

PS:- This monday it was raining heavily as i was coming to my place of posting, so the roads were filled with water. Bike entered a pothole at around 65 kph and the hit was so hard that my wrist and shoulder pained for 5 mins after the hit. I feared that the alloy would have been bent, but hats of to Hero that the alloys are so strong that nothing happened to them.

Same story brother, its really difficult to find well qualified mechanics & that mechanic seems to be boy in 19s who did work of my bike.
We spend money close to lakhs to get good bikes & this ASC folks ruin them

Sibun, bro i checked manual as soon as i reached home & manual also say oil capacity as 175 ml on complete disassemble. I went back as i handle was not that smooth as before oil change, he said as oil is new, this will hapopen, just ride few kms & it will go away. One of member also suggested same. Now i am in situation that i cant take bike to any roadside mechanic to do the things like u said. I am ready to do those things at my home as i have all tools but my dad would kill me if they see me doing such stuffs, as even if i change my bike`s oil at regular interval, giving wash, they keep on shouting saying.." Wat laga dega bike ki..bas tu hi ek he jo pure building me apne bike ki care larta he, baki log ki bike sad rahi he to b kuch nahi krte vo...
What you say, should i keep riding ignoring this issue? will it go away by its own?

no one knows your bike inside out better than you, If you feel there is a problem and you feel confident that you can best resolve it, go ahead and do it.

If you feel your dad will frown on you for doing it DIY way, then take it to mechanic, make him fix it up to your satisfaction and stop him if he's doing anything wrong at any point of time.

(But before you begin fixing it your self, i am assuming you have all the tools required to proceed with the task at hand.)

                                Sibun,
Xtreme old model's oil filled shocks are direct fit for Hunk?
