Bike became so smooth but engine became noisy. Recently its 15k in the odo and I'm using motul 5100 15w50 and bike lacks pulling power and engine is noisy. Plz suggest me what to do to get rid of this. Should I stick to the grade that manufacturer recommend? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey Joy! I used to have a CBZ and a Hero Honda Hunk before I moved to my RE Electra 350. For your bike, try using the Castrol Power1 10W30. That's the recommended grade for the Xtreme. I am new here and just saw this and so the delayed response Do let me know if this helped. Dropping to 10W30 should sort the pick up issue as well. This worked for me.

Service Update:

I had dropped off the bike for service yesterday.

Got a call from the mechanic today saying that the Camshaft bearing has developed play. And this bearing can't be bought separately and needs to be bought with the entire camshaft. Also, the rocker arms need replacement as suspected. He estimated the camshaft and the pair of rocker arms will amount to something around Rs.1400 to Rs. 1500.

I am amazed that this is happening after 30000km! This is the same mechanic who said he will try to fix the front brake at a lathe before suggesting a replacement. I have always seen him try and repair before a replace suggestion. So it is hard to believe that he is fleecing me.

The coneset also needs replacement. He said that would add another Rs.800 to the expenses. I am not sure whether to go ahead with it or not because the costs associated with the camshaft and the rocker arms is pretty high already. I am thinking of putting this off until a little later. I only notice a kat-kat sound at times, nothing that bothers me too much in any other way.

Just to know, the bike ran with very tight tappets for around 2,400km. Is it possible that the camshaft bearing has developed play this early due to the tight tappets? Or is it because of the big bore or the bigger front sprocket?

Engine oil is the Honda Throttle 10W30 Fully Synthetic, cost me Rs. 504.

EDIT: Here is a database with updated prices of Hero spare parts: http://gurukripahero.com/infoPDF/Par...star%20PDF.pdf

As per this, rocker arms are each at Rs. 277(A pair will cost Rs. 554) and the Camshaft costs Rs. 847.

Oh! i am sorry as i forgot to reply to your previous post. your problem is not tappets but valves. From the post that you have posted i could make out that due to valve not seating properly, your bike was pushing the air fuel mixture trough the inlet track.

To solve the problem you must do these works:-
1. Open the head and valves manually.

2. Next clean the inlet and exhaust port properly with petrol and hard brush.

3. Clean the head and piston dome of carbons and clean the valves

4. Check the valve seats and if worn change the valves.

5. If valves are ok then fit the existing valves by lapping with valve lapping compound.

6. Even if you use new valve use lapping compound and polish the valves.

7. Use new valve oil seal, new head packing, new o-rings.

8. set the tappets using feeler guage according to manual.

After doing this work your bike will be alright and be ready to fly.

I give it to this chap: Link on Google Maps It's not a big garage, it's a tiny little one. I put it up on Google Maps because I personally was very happy with his work.

He's a nice chap. Instead of directly suggesting a replacement everytime, he tells you if it is absolutely necessary and will show you what is wrong first and then leaves the choice of replacement upto you. Will be ok if you buy spares from wherever you desire and give it to him. He's ok with follow up tweaks as well. Also allows you to monitor work. Please note that I get nothing from suggesting you to give your bike to him for service.

But yes, I will need to see how this service goes. Then I shall be a little more certain.

I would ask you to yourself check the camshaft at your mechanics place. Camshaft bearings do not wear so soon. Ok, it doesn't last as long as splendor series engine but its life is not so short. I have seen extreme crossing 1 lacs kilometers and still not requiring cam shaft replacement. As for the rocker arms, then tight tapets ruin the rocker bearings. So when you fit back everything, you yourself set the tappets as i have instructed. Chances are that mechanic will not use feeler guage to set tappets. And the cone set cost Rs. 350 and not Rs. 800, so nothing to worry. Adjust it and if it is feeling rough then only change it.

And ashwin another request, one of our brothers is facing problems. He has posted in next post of yours. He goes by the id- dream_victor. He is facing problem in his bike and he is in constant touch with me over PM. His problem is largely attributed to tappet adjustment and carb tuning. Since the tappets are not properly adjusted his bike is not getting tuned properly. Since it is physically not possible for me to go there and set the bike correctly. May be you can help him to set the tappets and adjust the carb as i had helped you in setting the tappets. Please help him as he is in problem for many days.

Got the bike back from Service last night. Cost me Rs. 3,300. It's been 30,193km on the odometer.

Parts changed:

1) Camshaft: Rs. 740. Reason for this was that the bearings of the camshaft had gone kaput. The mechanic showed me the old camshaft and I could feel the grinding on both ends of the camshaft when it is turned.

2) Rocker Arms: Rs. 535(Each is Rs. 267). This was due to play that the rocker arms had developed that was causing a ticking sound that sounded like tappet noise when the engine was hot.

3) Fork Oil Seal: Rs. 166(Both forks). The oil seal on the right fork was finished. And oil was leaking on the fork, albeit a very small amount. I asked him to change the oil seal on both forks.

4) Fork Oil: Rs. 140. Since the oil had leaked from the right fork, there was obviously lesser oil in the right fork than in the left fork. And this could seriously affect the handling. So fork oil was refilled on both forks.

5) Brake Fluid: Rs. 31. Self explanatory.

Spares alone cost me Rs. 1,846

Washing cost me Rs. 80, Service cost me Rs. 490, the Fork Job cost Rs. 300 and the Chain cleaning and lubing cost Rs. 90.

He also plugged the oil head from the head cover by using a gasket sealant this time looks like. He didn't charge me for this because I had given the bike to him for the same problem earlier but yet oil would leak, albeit in very, small small amounts.

In total, it cost me Rs. 2,806. And the Engine oil cost me Rs. 500. So a grand total of Rs. 3,300.

Result?

The bike is loads smoother now. The annoying ticking noise is gone. The spark plug looks like there is chocolate powder spread over it. There also appears to be lesser knocking when the bike is travelling low speeds.

Overall, very, very pleased with the guy's work. He insisted on showing me the play in the Rocker Arms and the Camshaft Bearings before I decided on changing them altogether. Also, I asked him to change the coneset, but he said that the present steering bearings will easily last another 5000km atleast and that it will not need any replacement, just some adjustment will do

Yeah, definitely looks like Hero spares are a lot cheaper when compared to its Honda counterparts!

• Air leaking in tubeless tyres between alloy and tyre..!!

Please friends I need your urgent attention...I just bought a new bike a Hero Hunk and its just finished its first service..I just noticed that air was leaking from my front wheel. I inspected the whole Tyre for any nail punctures and there was none. I went to a nearby mechanic and finally he found out the problem for me..!! The air was leaking between the alloy and the Tyre. He told me me that i should return the bike to the showroom because it was a new one and it was the alloy's problem. I called the Hero authorized service center guys and a lady at first gave me a weird reply.."We don't do Tyre repairing here sir". And then I told her to call some service guy and a guy told me on phone that "u just need to re seat the Tyre sir. I asked him If I remove the front wheel on myself will it affect the warranty policy and so on. He told me just to make sure that there are no scratches on the alloy and that this will not affect the warranty policy and so on. I got that wheel removed and deflated the Tyre at a nearby Tyre shop and I found that the inside surface of alloy where the Tyre and alloy meets there were few scratches and paint removed there and the shop guy told me that air was escaping through there. Finally we could just inflate the Tyre and keep it back. What should I do now if the air still leaks?? These incidents happened yesterday and I will update you if the air still escapes. If the air still escapes what should I do because its an alloy problem?? and the bike still on warranty?? Should I go to the showroom and argue with them for a new alloy?? Or should I repair it any any other place??? Please your opinion guys..its my first tubeless Tyre and I am already upset..Your advices please friends..as soon ad possible

If you have been changing your engine oil regularly then its really not necessary to clean them that early on 11000 km. But again it involves some amount of labor so the asc avoids doing it. and if you do get it cleaned, always use a new gasket.

From your description it appears that the alloy is bent and the air is leaking between the tyre bead and the alloy. This has happened either if you have banged your alloy very hard in some pothole or bump or this was a faulty unit from the factory itself.

Take your bike back to the place where you bought it, see if you can get it changed under warranty. Most probably those guys will tell you that you crashed it into something and thus they rim got bent. Then you will either have to claim insurance on it or just put a tube and run it.

BTW, how many kilometres have you done on it so far and how many days ago you bought the bike?
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
