  • Re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk

My bike was parked idle for a week and when I took her out today, bike suddenly shut off and was not starting. When tried starting using kick lever, I could feel no compression on the kicker! I have heard of this problem (sticky valve, if I'm not wrong) and tried kick 9-10 times with no luck. Tried rolling the bike in second gear and suddenly engine regained life
Otherwise, the bike was my faithful companion through out this heavy rainy time we had here in Chennai. Rode her with engine almost immersed in water, but she didn't even choke once. The high ground clearance, steep angled silencer, electricals, etc.. everything favoring a trouble free ride in rain

I ride 170 kms non stop. I have never felt the need of it.

      .
+1 to this, I own a Hunk ( need to write a ownership review sometime ) and the suspension is far far better than monoshock in Uni. Even my cousin who had a Uni for 5+ years rode my Hunk for more than 100 kms over few days (in both city and highway) and his feedback was that the handling is same as Uni but the suspension is a class apart and comfort is superb. I feel the ride quality is really plush. I dont see a reason for Mono shock when we have this kind of tuning of bike suspension, end of the day bike is meant for comfortable riding for me and I dont care if its mono, dual or triple suspension
Do speed breakers break speed or break backs !!!

is there any technical advantage of inverted rear GRS over conventional ones.?

in new Hunk i couldn't able to find out any spatial constrain to retain the conventional setup but still hero has gone with inverted ones.

        • Hunk Engine Issue

          Dear All
Posting on behalf of a friend and he requires urgent attention.

Hero honda hunk completed around 18000kms, having super smooth engine and no issues at all.
For the very first time he used motul 3100 which was fine till 1500 kms, my friend then checked oil level and went for a trip of around 200kms.
Strangely after coming back when he went to drain the old engine oil, THERE WAS NO OIL LEFT in crankcase.
But strangely it was not smoking. His draining screw is ok.
Now he uses regular mineral oil 10w30 and engine oil level is still ok after 1000kms but ENGINE SOUND IS TERRIBLE.

          Video record link: https://youtu.be/UvuYCEqPLk0

SVC said whole engine needs to be repaired which we dont believe, coz except for the sound bike rides beautifully.

          Requiring your feedback please.

Now, I've owned Unicorn 160 and Ride quality wise Hunk was much better. Hunk was able to absorb most potholes and bumps without transmitting it to my back and was able to provide pliant ride, whereas Unicorn transmits EVERY single thing to me and i feel it's bad than Hunk. Mono-shock and seats were MUCH better in old Unicorn. Mileage is better than Hunk as of now. Quality of switch gears is better on Hunk.

Super smooth engine but nowhere near vibe-free experience like Gixxer. Even my hunk was not bad in vibes.

Had a sort of a doubt on a topic related to suspension systems.
So want to clear it here & now if possible. Since everyone comparing & talking about shock absorbers.
Does very little or no feedback from the shocks a bad thing ?
Im talking about this topic taking into account only the people who actually feel & hear their bike & not just use it as a means of transport.
P.S : I'm assuming feedback & jerk felt in your back & hands/neck to be very closely linked.
I'll be forever learning about this vast field of automobiles so feel free to correct me here.

Feedback is both good and bad . Here's why ,
A John Doe is driving X bike which has monocross suspension , tuned for city rides. Obviously if he takes it to track , he wont be able to attack corners with higher speed , as spring rate and damping ratio of suspension was tuned to city road which has high undulations and keeps rider planted over bumps .

Same guy buys bike Y which has track tuned suspension , less damping ratio and low spring rate , drives in city and feels every bump going up his spine. Sells off bike next day and rants for eternity.

But both bikes had their own purpose which JD could not understand and used wrong bike in wrong place.

Coming back to question , yes feedback is both good and bad , Its good when you are taking turns or are using in track where you need to know whats happening. In city drives it wont serve any purpose because one needs comfort in his daily commute hence he bought a bike that caters to his needs.

I have been following xbhp since many months, applied few days ago & got approved just now. Read about tappet settings, de-carbonizing, timing, tuning and what not.

my big thanks & respect to Sibun, you are lifeline for all Xtreme/hunk/unicorn owners

Sibunji, I request your expertise in solving issue with my bike which is giving me sleepless nights

I have a second hand CBZ Xtreme 2009 model, (I love CBZ Xtreme a lot) and I always serviced it myself. But since a month ago I read tappet setting procedure on this forum, decided to do it.

Opened head cover, I set piston to TDC with 'T' mark, but the cam sprocket wheel was not aligned to head surface, its marking was not parallel, (my guess is previous owner mech messed it up & advanced the cam sprocket) So I manually adjusted the sprocket & chain to factory level (lines parallel to head surface at TDC, dot facing exhaust side) and then carried out a proper tappet setting procedure.

From then all my trouble started: Bike makes "kirr kirr" sound from inside the head, when engine hot. So I thought maybe due to advanced cam, rockers and all timing related items may be worn out/damaged.

So I bought new camshaft, rockers, timing chain, sprocket, chain guides, tensioner, and also new valves (with head work: lapping & compression test, new valve guides, from a reliable shop) & new oil pump. I properly installed all these myself painfully for 7 full day-nights.

But my problem of uneven "kirr kirr" sound isnt vanishing, I tried even more: changed ignition coil, spark plug & cap, checked all electric connections, recheck all installed components, checked oil flow to head, checked valve settings once again, cleaned carb, changed engine oil to brands/grades/quantity, did everything A-Z but Still no result, this left me deeply disappointed. I also heard from from crank case there is no noise from that area. Noise is only audible from head area.

I went to few mechs, they said crank bearing, piston rod, engine rebuild etc, but I am not satisfied with their answers. Also from this thread I read "ashwin.terminator" was facing almost same problems as mine in his Hunk engine, but replacing oil pump solved it for him. But not for me

Please help me out Sibun-ji! I will perform to all follow-ups u ask me to do.

                          Thanks a lot!

                          Anyone? Please do help.

Thanks for clearing my doubt. Example made it crystal clear to me.
Already had a faint idea that lesser bumps felt, meant better comfort; but l guess feedback is somewhat important in calculating the limits of said bike.

Is noise continuous or in regular intervals ?
Continuous means its one of the bearings . Cam shaft one perhaps .
Regular interval noise means we need to dig deeper on what it can be .

I have replaced new camshaft, new rockers, new timing chain, guides, cam wheel, tensioner.

The noise is not always constant, it keeps varying. Noise is louder when revved & also when engine is hot.

Another observation: NGK spark plugs make my engine noise more, but Bosch plugs made relatively less noise, so I have put RTR180 bosch twin head plug.

                                Noise is: "Chirr Chirr Chirr"
