• re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk

Yesterday went to ASC. Reached directly to GM of Aher. That lady dint mate, but quit stirred up supervisor, mechanic, main head of service.
They start arguing why went to GM, bla bla shit stuff. But got work done as i grabbed their neck..:P Even that supervisor was with my bike for 3 hrs. He personally cleaned my ride with soap. Wiped.

So list of problems face from 1st of NOV.
1. Bike not starting, loosing compression
Remedy: Open spark plug, put some oil, close hole with some cloth, give some kick. Put back spark plug. Bike will start.

2. loud tappet noise
Culprit: Bad tappet setting
Remedy: Get tappet adjusted by feeler gauge only.( I am gonna get all the necessary tools & will do DIY for tappet adjustment. Now leave it as it is for next one month or 1000 kms as rocker arms & valves are new. Let them get set)

3. Bike giving mis fire at speed 75+ & not going 86 kmph/ 7500 rpms
Culprit: Timing chain not adjusted properly when engine was reassembled.
Remedy: Got it done at ASC. For factory setting, check there will be rectangular notch on which sprocket is mounted. Adjust crank to TDC & it will be in line parallel to TDC line. (watch HERO HONDA`s engine opening tutorial available on you tube, you will get fair idea)

4. Oil leak from left side crank, crank hole, head cover.
Culprit: Left side crank opened thrice. It is recommended to replace it with new one every time you open it, but they dint bothered.
Remedy: Gasket replaced for left side. O ring replaced for two crank holes. Head gasket replaced.

5. RPM not going down freely after 3000 RPM.
Culprit: When carb was interchanged to find fault in my bike, accelerator cable was not adjusted properly while putting old carb. It was not related to carb setting
Remedy:Asked them about this problem. Cable adjusted, lubed. Now it runs like buttersmooth.

Input Invloved:
Petrol worth 600 Rs.+ gasket, o ring, spark plug, filter etc worth 375 Rs.=975 Rs.
3 Personel leaves, 1 sick leave from office to visit & keep eye on my ride.
1 whole day at ASC.
Lost of mental, physical exertion.
Taunting from friends, mom, dad.
RESULT:
Butter smooth, revving free XTREME after 2 weeks, 6 visits to different ASC. Yes my beast is back. And now much better smoother than before.
Lessons learned
Get a good mechanic at ASC or outside, who has thorough knowledge about bike & try to learned more from your side because its our hard earned money & investment which gets spoiled by stupid maniacs.
Thank u very much @sibun, @Pinaki da, @ashwin.terminator, @RohIIT.
Its because of you i came to know about lot of technical stuffs.
Next upgrade.
Installing ZMR`s bar end weights as stock one are not so cool..

very good summary with solutions....but the upgrade part...really????
ZMR's end weights (actually its a kind of thermosetting plastic and its weigh less, donot know why it is called as weights instead of crash protector) is bit long and it will look ugly,. what is the problem with stock dude..?

My bike was stranded in open ground from Feb till esterday.

Everything was jammed. Replaced a few things and got it 'serviced' from a mechanic. Put a lot of WD40 on everything.

The ride is roughest ever in four years. Its making noises 'Gad gad gad gad' taq taq ta gad taq while riding.

real issue now-

Mechanic told me carburator settings are tampered and fuel screw is jammed and half rusted. Impossible to turn in any way round.

1. I start my bike, its at 1.5K, the ride starts, when say Im in 2nd gear at 30 & I decide to change gear to 3rd and press clutch, immediately suddenly RPM goes upto 4K and beyond. I slowly release clutch and then it comes back to normal. This happens even when I plan to brake.

**Mechanic says this is because my clutch plates are gone, without even looking at it**

what Im thinking-

1. Should I buy a new carburator so I dont get this sudden 4K rpm issue and so that Air Fuel mixture is at factory setting?
2. Or is this sudden 4K beyond rpm due to clutch plates?
clutch wire changed 1K kms ago.

You've posted this query on multiple threads. Don't do that please.
Find the appropriate thread that your bike's make and model belong to and only post there please. Otherwise its confusing for others.

Replace all cables . Accelerator , clutch , choke . By servicing i take it you changed oil and airfilter . Open up head cover and check for valve clearance and if bike has done more than 30k kms open up head directly , polish and lap valves and remove carbon from head.
Try to spray WD40 in fuel screw and slowly turn it both ways but dont apply much pressure or it can break.

If you manage to get carburetor out , clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner and give it good compressed air blast.

Put in a new spark plug and check how is engine is now.

I am afraid but its not plastic , its metal . ZMR end weights are metal and quite bigger than what we have on xtreme , Unicorn on other hand has plastic ones.

ohh...for Hunk its plastic....it because it has knee guard whereas in ZMR handle bar itself is a protector and hence the metal i guess.

Btw y u want to change it. it will be long and wont suit CBZ handle bar.

I have changed all cables except choke. The screw is almost broken I think. Will try using WD40.
A few hours back got to know my right shock absorber is leaking oil. Now this is something new. Err.. It is getting more & more irritating now.

Here in Mumbai I don't even know a good reliable mechanic I can go to and get everything fixed. Who knows carb tuning and more

Accelerator cable busted in middle of traffic last Saturday, nevermind, increased idle and rode the bike to Hero ASC available within 1 km. Got the accelerator cable fitted in 15 mins. Total bill around Rs. 160 (accelerator cable+rear fender reflector+labor). Just love the feel of new cable
Hero rocks in spares and ASC availability!

I loved those bar end weights on ZMR. Also i remember someone in this thread itself swapped stock bar end weights with zmr or pulsar one. He had 1st model of cbz xtreme, one with red alloy at back.

Also yesterday was reading impulse thread where karizma`s heart plonked in impulse body.
Can we plonk ZMR`s oil cooled engine in xtreme`s frame as mounting is same for all hero bike( FOR 150 cc & above), Oil cooler of pulssar 220`s instead of current zmr. FI system can`t be implemented on xtreme due lots of sensor need to be required, so can we use current carb of xtreme as xtreme has biggest size of main jet that will suffice the requirement of afr mixture for zmr engine. What would be other changes will be required?

(Disclaimer: This is just a thought that came in mind. I not thinking for any of such mod on my ride..)

ha ha ...What an idea Ji if u try to put karizma's engine, then the other internals may also needs to be replaced. may be the principle used in impulse modification can be applied here.

The bar end weights will require hole for screwing them in. So you may need to change the handlebars to ZMR for this mod.

The ZMR handle bar weights can be fitted as the split handle extreme comes with metal weights screwed into the handle bars. In fact the handle bars are same for ZMR and extreme. I have a plan for doing so. Will get the ZMR bar ends this sunday and will do the conversion next sunday.
pratham- Yes we can transplant a ZMA engine into Extreme, but that requires changes in wiring as the CDI magnets and all are different. There is no need of ZMR engine if you are not going to retain the FI. Infact ZMA engine will do.

The ZMR oil cooler is infact bigger and cools more than P220. And carburettor we have to change as even though ZMA runs smaller jets the carb is 30mm one instead of ours 28 MM.

All in all a lot of money and headache for those who are not so much into technology and bike internals.

And you haven't yet exploited the full potential of Extreme. I have hit a top speed of 122 kph on bike( true speed as the speedo is damn accurate). So you have still lot to play.
