Yes, I indeed had a persistent Rocker Arm noise. But this noise would go away if the tappets are too tight. I got tappet noise at around 29000km. The tappets were too tight, I set them to 0.10 and 0.07 and I got something that sounded like tappet noise. Surprised, I was. Then Sibun said it was due to play caused in the rocker arms.

This video will tell you the kind of play I am talking about.

The video shows the play in the roller of the rocker arm. It creates hammering noise from the head due to the play in the roller.

But, RohIIT, the mechs usually set the tappets too tight. I am yet to encounter one that sets it too loose to cause the dreaded tappet noise.

PRATHM, I suggest you check the tappets yourself. No one will give more to your bike than you yourself. Check the tappets first, adjust the clearance. If there is noise still, we can look at a future course of action.

Let's change/fix one thing at a time to get to the root of the problem rather than replacing parts on guesswork.

Using the same feeler gauge set plug clearance too at .8-.9mm , 2 mm is so large it would have scratched valve face while hitting , Also why did you increase plug gap ? it wont cause better combustion on other hand spark wont jump due to turbulence in chamber .

Rockers need replacement when one runs with loose tappets for long and there is play in arms , so no matter what gap you set , it will give tik tik noise always , @ashwin.terminator can help in this regard , he replaced his rockers recently . First confirm that rockers are gone, they dont go bad before atleast 10K kms . Mine is at 13900kms and *touchwood* no tappet or any unwanted noise till date. So first confirm that it has damage otherwise it will be of no use and cost you money for no reason.
My bike was stand still for 1 week. It started with one push start with choke in morning & idled for 3-4 minutes. It was early morning time when this drama happened around 6 a.m. after 1 hr of kick, button & push start effort I finally opened spark plug as i thought there might be some prob with plug & found plug tip almost touched without any gap so i adjusted gap just little bit about 1 mm. As i was in hurry parked my bike at home & went away. At night bike started but that loud tak tak sound was still there. I went to service center early in the morning (traveled just 4-5 kms) But my regular ASC was shifting other place so they told me another ASC. So went to another hero ASC. 1st he said rocker arm might be damaged so mech there adjusted tappets without gauge with hand. When he tried starting bike it was still not starting(compression loss) & after lots of kick, button start its started but sound was still there. Later he put some oil, kicked bike several time this time bike started with dense white smoke from exhaust. All this stuff happened after i reached ASC. Now please tell me is there some serious problem with my bike. Why compression loosed yesterday morning, this never happened in 1 year. I am in warranty so there wont be any money input from myside. But will it make any problem to my engine in future. I guess i made big mistake visiting ASC in 1st shot. I could have waited for reply..
Will my bike will be better after this replacement job?
I was discussing with mech so he told me that they will open head, check for valve, rocker arm. If damaged they will replace under warranty. Will Know about status in afternoon itself.

Guys my extreme has crossed 40k on diwali weekend and is now standing at 42k.

Recently serviced at 41.5 k and the accelerator cable and starter relay was changed.

Also bike was running a little lean as tuning was set at the time of installing rings. Now bike has run 11k after that and so carbon deposits were changing the compression ratio.

During the time bike was running lean bike was returning 62-64 kpl on highway with speed hovering at 70-80 kph.

Then on my request my mechanic re-tuned it and bike is now flying. Bike is pulling so hard that even in fifth gear if we open the throttle the front shocks lifts up and rear person is sliding back.

Some photos for the day. 40k kms review coming soon with a different thread.

Some photos for today:-

The pics of the Naraj barage in background. The said barrage is the point after when river Kathajodi separates from river Mahanadi. The Barrage lies in cuttack.

If they are ready to repair in warranty. Let them do it. They are themselves talking of warranty. Changing valves and rockers is no rocket science. Anybody who's is working on four strokes will do it. After getting bike adjust tappets to company specs using feeler gauge.

And this work is was even my 15 year old cousin brother can do it although a bit supervision from me will be needed.

Eagerly waiting for ur review and i must say excellent mileage figure. even driving it under 50 also wont give that. i have couple of doubts to clear.
1. what will happen if we run continuously on lean mixture to get more mileage. ? iam doubtful on this because otherwise company would have done it in first place.
2. What is the mileage u r getting now after re-tuning..?
3. can we say whether our carb is tuned well just by looking at the tachometer while revving it at neutral.?

awaiting u reply bro.

sibun No words brother the bike looks like it is out from factory just now . I find the paint slightly faded in fiber parts like mine xtreme too . Also there are some minor scratches on silver exhaust shield , please tell me it can be fixed if yes then how ? . Mine has lots of them and i am considering changing them or getting it painted but replacing seems cheaper at 950/-.
dineshaugustin . Slight lean mixture will give better mileage but what i found is perfect tune will give best of both worlds . Sibun mentioned he is getting 60+ at such high speeds and even me after setting tappets and tuning in was getting nearabout 52kmpl with no highway conditions , sure at highways it would be higher .

Yes at idling you can hear each stroke is even and needle stays at 1200 or 1400 whatever you set it at and will idle till fuel runs out or someone switches it off. The sound of engine will be very smooth at idling and performance at high revs will make you fall in live with it.
Even i am trying to get that perfect point of mix , i think i am running slightly lean at 2.0 turns and need to keep it at 2.2 maybe.

RohIIT No need to replace the silver cover. Just spray paint it using spray can. It won't cost you more than 200 rs. Me too had scratches it was painted like this and looking good. Will post a pic.

Paint is not faded at any fiber parts as far as my sight goes. Must be the reflection of light will be causing the illusion. My bikes paint will fade and i will sit not possible.
None of the paint has faded. Look at the picture and report where you are seeing faded.

And that scratch will be repaired by painting it matt silver. I am thinking of painting it to matt black.

By running continuously in lean mixture you run the risk of burning the valves.

After retuning the mileage is 53-55 kpl at same speed.

Yes we can say whether carb is well tuned by feeling the throttle response at neutral.

Guys, I left my bike at hero ASC. Today i called them, they told me that valves, rocker arm damaged & need to be changed. It will get changed under warranty. But i am confused how this come could happened, its too early? I mean i maintained bike regularly, timely changed oil. Could running lean mixture is culprit..?

thanks for the clarification. but guys can u comment from the below rpm revving video..?? that video was taken after for about 45 MINS ride. iam little worried because i felt like running on lean. plz ignore the metal grrhh sound because its from the loose headlight. if it is not clear i can upload a new one.
my bike always starts in first press itself in the morning , but i have to open the throttle just a little say the rpm stays @ 1300 just to keep the engine alive. otherwise the engine shuts off. if i hold the engine @ 1300 rpm for about 15 sec....then the engine stays alive and no issues thereafter. i could keep the idle rpm more to solve this but as u can see from the video at hot condition the idling is already at 1500rpm. hence i got the doubt on lean mixture. also iam getting 55 in 80% city ride which makes me worried more rather than happy so plz help me on this. also my engine sound became bit louder that even my cousin who tookthe bike after 7 months pointed out immediately. the sound is not like sewing machine and hence i think its not tappet.

i can upload a new video if it is not clear.

Bro It seems to be like you & me in the same boat.., My bike was also running super lean, as confirmed by SIBUN after he watched my spark plug pics. Also my bike was giving some clich clich scissor kind of sound, not tappets noise. Now my bike is with ASC. They will be replacing rocker arm & valve under warranty. Just waiting for my ride to get back. The worst part is today its her 1st birthday & she is not with me..

but my mileage is too high...never seen such mileage before...last two time i checked it gave me 58&60kmpl in 80% city ride
