• Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

On going over the past few posts regarding battery, bulbs and horns...
suprasuperb80 .. you own the new 110cc model dio right ? If so, it comes with a smaller capacity battery (compared to the 5Ah on the older dios) - and you mention you had upgraded the battery to 5Ah. But i think the charging circuit was not sufficient to handle the 5Ah battery and hence the drain out.

When you said you used the root horn, did you use a relay ? Because if you use a relay there shouldn't be any problem. I have personally used aftermarket horns with a relay on various bikes/scooters and never had an issue when installed with a relay. If you used a relay and still had issues it was due to your battery upgrade and the bigger battery wasn't getting enough juice from the charging circuit.

Full dc? Did you get it converted to full dc ? I think the new dio's and activa's come with a dc setup by default right ?
And the new ones use a HS1 type bulb right? (older ones have the ba20d type bulb) - Stick to the stock 35w rated bulbs (i know oem bulb has lower intensity and throw), and i find the bosch bulb (ba20d type halogen) much better to stock. You can try another brand of halogen bulb but ensure you adjust the headlight correctly (by default i find it pointing a little higher)

Regarding indicators, read my post a cpl of pages ago. If the new dio has a electronic flasher unit, it shouldn't be a problem using lower wattage bulbs.

@ s1d,
Yes my dio is a 2012 model, I tried to rewire the lighting coil to ensure it was capable of recharging the bigger battery quicker. Stock lighting coil was only meant to charge 3.5ah stock battery.
Finally the battery drain problem was rectified, my auto electrician said lighting coil is not being able to feed the bigger hungry battery. Moreover "Lighting coil" of new dio is a very compact one. It CANNOT be rewired due to lack of space inside the coil (housing) UNLIKE old Dio.
My Auto Electrician said to ride more during day than night to ensure puny lighting coil was able to feed hungry battery effectively.

Regarding Roots Horn, I am pretty sure he had installed a relay, probably Denso make.
Now horn is stock.

I've currently fitted Osram SilverStar 35w HS1.
Can I fit a H4 35w bulb into 2012 Dio stock light holder?.
I think no right?

And tomorrow a new family member is coming to our home
Surprise .

Will update you guys,

Cheers,
Have a great weekend.

I ve used local unnamed brands of relays and never had an issue with the horns or battery. It was probably the battery charging/rewinding that was the root cause of your troubles.

H4 can be fitted in to a HS1 socket I guess.. read this: Bosch - Lighting
HS1 is a new range halogen bulb with a PX 43t fitting. The only difference between the HS1 and an H4 halogen bulb, is that the middle pin at the base is 1-2mm thicker. Hence the notation PX 43t compared to P43t. The HS1 will become the standard bulb for all new 2 wheelers launched.

Ask them to check the brakes of the scoot. Your scoot has completed 3500 kms thus Engine Oil change is recommend if you ask me. You may upgrade to Shell AX7(Semi Synthetic oil) or stay OEM (Default Honda Engine Oil I.e Mineral oil). But wherever you get your oil changed, ask them to do it in front of you.
I know headlight on Honda Dio sucks, the stock headlight bulb doesn't illuminate the streets properly at all. You may go a dark place at night & try adjusting the alignment screws provided below the headlamp. I have tried Osram blue Tinted bulbs(just for Show, steer clear from these:thumbdown, HID & Projector(Satisfying illumination but faced battery issues) and my current one is Osram SilverStar, partially satisfied with illumination & no battery issue since its a 35w. Atleast it is better than stock ones.

I hope my post helped you.
Cheers.

Thanks for the valuable tips bro..btw putting a new buld will solve the issue??and for engine oil@s1d said that if we change in to other brand oils warranty will be gone ...so i think it betta to stick with stok oem atleast till 3rd service right?? am fed up with it illumination of headlight it sucks when it on highbeam mode it says hello to the tree above rather than roads clear problem

Yeh, stick to oem oil if you want warranty, if not you can move to either castrol or motul jaso mb oils (castrol is available in 20w40 & 10w30 , motul only in 10w30)
Regarding healight, adjust the aim using the screw beneath the front panel. I have noticed the same with a unicorn (11 month old) and a karizma (5 month old)..the headlight points higher and comparing it with my dio's 35w bulb (bosch halogen)the intensity/throw appears to be lower!! (the unicorns bulb was recently changed to a 35w phillips bulb since the oem had fused the high beam but still the lighting was same)

Alright guys,
Here she is.
Honda Activa DLX 2014

We got her home today from Silicon Honda Bengaluru.
Another addition to our family, along side my Honda Dio 2012, bro's Honda Unicorn 2005, Honda CBR 150R 2012. (Our other vehicles are bit jealous of the new comer ).
This vehicle will be ridden by my dad mostly.
So there,
Now, even we have one of the largest selling scooter in India.

Cheers.

Nice.. looks like only the cbr250r is missing from the line up
btw, today i spotted a activa 125 in my lane and it was looking very similar to the 110cc activa from the rear. But the plastics seem to be much more shinier and from the looks of it seems to be better quality. Even the paint job (black) was looking much better and shinier compared to the 110cc - not sure if the owner had some extra polishing done on it

Motorbeam.com says it's full metal body, waiting period was staggering. It fairs far better than Suzuki-Swish in 0-60 kmph sprints.

All in all Honda-Activa125 is a superb package.

Hi guys,
Today I went for a 12 kms ride on my 1 day old Honda Activa 110 HET and the first I noticed was that new Activa was more comfortable than my 2012 Honda Dio, I mean the riding posture was very comfy, unlike 2012 Honda Dio where I feel cramped for space (Im almost 6ft. ) and bad pillion comfort  without proper foot pegs. I felt foot board were bigger compared to Dio. The HET engine is said to have reduced friction thus improving mileage (will have to check that in future).
All in all, I think this scoot is very good package both for elderly and teens. But Dio beats most scooters with her charming looks hehe.
Let's hope aftersales service is better in Silicon Honda. :what:
Will keep you guys posted with more updates.

I feel dhruvdesh Honda service in jayamahal is best. And yea activa has more leg room than dio even the old model. I'm 6.2 and can't ride dio without the handle hitting my knees.
