That service guy sold me de-carb at 8500km for his commission. mine is 32k+ now, regular services are done, the only issue is of mileage, it is around 35 kmpl. i usually dive it around 60-70 Kmph.. and is engine oil recommended by honda is good enough..??

We all fall for those tricks; we can never be sure about it first time around. You can replace Engine Oil yourself along with other simple DIY.

Anywayz, I've not checked if Honda 10w30 is JASO-MB compliant. If not, find one which complies with JASO-MB standard. A mineral engine oil is more than sufficient.

JASO-Logo: Instead of MA2 it'll be MB


Replace gear-oil(like [MENTION=16602]s1d[/MENTION] insists) along with engine oil replacement, an EP-90 gear-oil which complies with API GL-4 specifications. Clean AirFilter & Secondary AirFilter as well.

i have recently changed the air filter along with spark plug, after how many kms. it should be changed, and is it necessary/advisable to change spark plug along with air filter..??/

Honda has 3 types of oils (all 3 are 10w30):
1. JASO MB -- Golden colored bottle - for all their scooters.
2. JASO MA -- Grey bottle - for motorcycles like unicorn shine etc..
3. 'Throttle' fully synthetic oil for the likes of CBR etc..

Stick to JASO MB grade if its available otherwise even the MA is ok.. other than honda oem oil, you can try castrol activ scooter which is available in 20w40 and 10w30 MB grades. My personal preference will be the 20w40 grade.

Spark plugs and air filters is advisable to change at around 10k km.. spark plugs might last longer but better to change them at periodic intervals.

Regarding mileage.. you own the old model dio right ? the 102cc one.. and yeh if you ride at 60-70kmph with wringing the throttle at every signal for that 'racy' getaway, the mileage you are getting is perfectly ok, and if the scooter is used frequently for shorter rides like say less than 5km stop-go then also this will be the mileage.
If ridden in the 40-50kmph range then you can expect a mileage of around 42kmpl.. provided all mechanicals are in order.. worn rollers, clutch shoes or springs will make you open the throttle more than required to move resulting in more fuel consumption.

Dio's end bar weights are of plastic ones if one notices. I was wondering if there any metal weights available for Dio. Can they(metal) be fixed properly?

You'd have to try the bar end weights from other bikes/scooter models.. IMO they are really unnecessary instead slip on a pair of handle bar grip covers over the stock handle grips and that I feel gives a better 'hold' and comfortable feel while riding... they cost around 75rs a pair. get the fully rubber ones not the foam types.

I've those rubber grips, removed them last time when I working on Engine-oil change & air-filter cleaning. My sister felt better without grips, you know with their short hands and all.

Will keep an eye open for end-weights jugad.

If yes, then what was the waiting period once initial booking payment was done.

Yes SparKot, I've custom attached Pulsar 180 bar ends on my Honda Dio 2012 with the help of an experienced welder.

can you remove it when necessary? Or is it like one-way ticket welding?
what did you do with hex-bolts that go with end-weights, welded together with weights to handle bar?

First, welder melted the rubber with the help of hot rod to reveal the hollow metal handle bars of the scoot.
-Next he heated the far ends of the handle bar(1.5 inch from the edge of the handle bar) with aid of a blow torch to RED HOT to help him insert another 1.5 round metal bar with threading in the middle to secure Hex bolts.
-When the bar ends were RED HOT to slide the threaded part into the handle bar (metal expands when heated up to certain temp.), dipped the metal handle bar in a jug of water. The metal handle bar contracted & held the threaded part securely.
-Next he put the bar ends in place & secured it with Hex bolts.

Yes, bar ends are easily detachable.

Ofcourse, the oem dry paper filter (yellow color) are sold at the ASC or local spares shops.. i always keep a spare one (planning to buy a few more and stock up just in case they stop selling them )
It costs me around 150rs (after a 10% disc on mrp) at local spares shop, while asc charges mrp+12% approx.

The 102cc dio (from 2009 onwards i think) came with the 'viscous type' filter (green colored oiled filter) - the ones before 2009 came with a dry paper filter (cylindrical in shape and yellow in color). Not sure if the dry paper type filter will be a direct fit in to the air filter box on the viscous type & viceversa.
By 'direct fit' do you mean fitting the filter on to the carb with out the air filter box ? If so, i wouldn't advice such a mod, because the position of the air filter in the scooter is such that it will attract more dust/crap/water etc due to splashes etc.. on motorcycles the air filter is located higher up and relatively less prone to damage from the elements.
