I think hero recommends the same engine oil in the gear box too. But honda (and most others world over) recommend a EP90 gear oil, and it makes much more sense to use this.
EP stands for 'extreme pressure' and this oil has EP additives that do a better job at protecting the gears. The viscosity of EP90 oil is similar to a w40 oil but with the added advantage of the EP additives.

Extreme pressure additive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But these scooter gear boxes being really puny and are not under heavy load/stress, should be fine even with a regular engine oil.. EP has more 'masala' in it ;-) and costs same and should last longer (i.e. if you want to keep it for say a year). Like i said better safe than sorry :-)

0. Clean air filter & spark plug (change every 10k - 12k km), correct tire pressures (26-28 front , 34-36 rear) and correctly set valve clearances and tuned carb.
1. Variator roller weights - should ideally be rounded and free of any flat spots (a mild flat spot is ok)
2. Clutch shoes - shouldn't be worn out
3. Clutch bell - again should be within spec
4. Clutch springs (small springs and the BIG 'torque' spring)
5. Drive belt for any damage/uneven wear

all the above components will normally last for at least 25k km before needing attention. My 40k+ dio still runs on the original clutch shoes/springs and clutch bell and will need replacement soon. Drive belt and variator rollers is advisable to change at around 25-30k km.

Stay away from any 'mods'..

Great tips bro, my dio has run 26k and the spark plug was never changed. I'll do all the check up and repairs this weekend!
Thanks a lot for the help!

Since you have covered 2400km already since last service and are planning a 'long' ride , it is better to have it serviced and engine oil replaced.
And yes the service guys change the oil, no worries - but make sure they drain the oil and refill it from a sealed bottle and not from the huge drums. If possible it is always better to stick around and get the oil changed in your presence. Tell them to change the oil in your presence (preferably when you come to collect the scoot after service.. not much is done at the free service anyway). No issues you stick with the Honda oil which is a 10w30 JASO MB grade and comes in a golden brown bottle (make sure they use this oil at the ASC)
The engine oil is like one of the most critical part and regular (2000-2500km) changes will significantly help in keeping the engine healthy.
And again i stress this point - pls rotate and check the tires closely for any embedded objects before going on a long ride/remote areas and get it fixed if any are found.
I can never have a lot of knowledge - keep learning, stay informed ..
last service was done when odo was around 7300kms. and it is now around 10100 kms., yes the service guys filled engine oil from sealed golden coloured bootle like you said, i am afraid i might not be able to get it serviced, will definitely check the tires.

well if you are not able to get it serviced, atleast check the engine oil level before you start..and top up if necessary. Continuous riding for longer distances at higher speeds might result in some consumption of engine oil, so ensure it is at the max level (not over filled) before the ride. 180 km is not a big deal for the scoot.. but you the rider should be more careful and ride sensibly.
btw what is the service interval mentioned in the manual?? isnt it every 2500km or 3000km ?

checked engine oil, its upto max., checked tires, rear one has two pins, got that fixed, now brakes, RVM and lights have been left, what else should i look out for..?? service interval mentioned in HET model is of 4000kms. and its a lot imp. for me to ride carefully as this will help me in assessing my future prospects regarding touring..

Good enough, get the brakes adjusted and you should be good to go. Whats wrong with the lights ? if they are working, leave them alone.. and RVM's you can adjust yourself as needed !
Surprised they have increased the service intervals to 4000km (considering they recommend a 10w30 oil) - anyway i'd prefer to never exceed 3000km per service/oil change.

Check ::
Helmet, check headlights & brake lights, air pressure, first aid kit, a tubeless tire puncture repair kit and you're good to go.
Hope I didn't miss out anything.

And one more thing,
Vary your speed, don't keep on going with say, 70kmph all the time.
Give some break (both to yourself and the scoot ) of 10-15mins every 70 kms or so.

Have a nice journey

ranger; At the time of 2nd service you ll have to mention the common problems you came across, I had problems like vibrating front cowl, etc. They rectified it. Ask them to check the brakes of the scoot. Your scoot has completed 3500 kms thus Engine Oil change is recommend if you ask me. You may upgrade to Shell AX7(Semi Synthetic oil) or stay OEM (Default Honda Engine Oil I.e Mineral oil). But wherever you get your oil changed, ask them to do it in front of you.
I know headlight on Honda Dio sucks, the stock headlight bulb doesn't illuminate the streets properly at all. You may go a dark place at night & try adjusting the alignment screws provided below the headlamp. I have tried Osram blue Tinted bulbs(just for Show, steer clear from these:thumbdown, HID & Projector(Satisfying illumination but faced battery issues) and my current one is Osram SilverStar, partially satisfied with illumination & no battery issue since its a 35w. Atleast it is better than stock ones.

I hope my post helped you.
Cheers.

Your setup is full-DC now?
Was battery discharging completely?

Yes my dio was full DC, I upgraded the battery from stock to Amaron 5Ah as well, HID did well for 5 months or so, then the actual nightmare began, battery was getting drained completely not even enough juice to lit a turn indicator.
Moreover I had installed a Roots Windtone horn to add up the pressure on the battery(oh silly me ).
So I got rid them all ( hid, roots horn etc) & reverted electrical setup and I installed good old halogen bulb (Osram SilverStar).
No problem whatsoever now

I see in Dio(102cc) owner's manual that brake & turn-indicators lights are 21w each. You could've done otherwise, change these with lower wattage bulbs (say 5w) with necessary circuit changes. Yeah, roots seem to shoot battery in the foot, esp with those indicators.

I have changed my Dio's console lights to T10 SMD LEDs(White).
Thinking to change turn indicator lights to LEDs too. I ll have to search in JC Road Bangalore. I have some shops near my home which do sell them, but only white & blue colored ones

I want orange colored LEDs to maintain the originality of the scoot.
No show off kind please
