Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
wtfffff!! Those tire prices seem a bit on higher side.Originally posted by Arvind Sibi View PostComing soon---> New Shoes for my Dio! Take a look at the present Pirelli! Posting 2 pics to compare!
That's how it is at present! Will update as soon as i change to new ones!
These sprays are availble at a cost of Rs 90 - 100 and not more! See to it that i've just left the red and black to stay matte and haven't applied a "clear" coating, which would improve its resistance to damage but would give it a glossy feel (which i didnt want). You can also opt for High quality Nippon Sprays which are available at Rs. 200 each! Been a week and the bike's been through heavy rain, as seen in the final pic and scorching sun, needless to say... All are intact so far!
Mine is a 2007 dio, when I changed the rear tire the first time to the stock zapper.. the tire cost was around rs.900(considering i bought it at the asc) and the stock tuff up tube was rs250 (this was in mid 2009).. The zappers i heard now cost around rs.1300 and the tuff up tube costs 450 approx (i recently bought the tube at the asc)
Did your rear zappers last 20k ? Lol mine wear out at around 13-14k and i have pushed them till 16k.. gets scary beyond 14k in the wet.
Currently i am using the ceat secura neo at both ends (third rear tire, stock n first replacement was zapper) and also a few months ago replaced the stock front tire for the first time along with the tuff up tube. My suggestion for tire replacements would be to stick to the zapper at the front, cos i find the ceat on the front to cause a bit of a wobble at higher speeds (my mech advised me against using ceat on the front, but i still went ahead)... for the rear the ceat seems ok.. cheaper (costs around rs.850) alternative to zapper, and looks like it will last a bit more compared to the zappers (the rear ceats have now done around 10k)
btw where did you get those pirellis ? If you are in chennai, i think bm lal sells tires at reasonable prices..
Now coming to that paint job you are doing.. If you ask me it was totally unnecessary (the body seems in great shape)and not the right way to do it!! You would have been better off giving the body parts a good polish and a wax. The paint job on the stock dio is very good. Those cans are good for touch up jobs. If your are repainting entire panels and body, you need to get the old paint off, prime etc before applying new paint..
For the black plastics you should have used one of those automotive polishes.
Anyway.. whats over is over, let it be a learning curve for you and others as well

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
first of all, this dio of mine is just kept at home as a spare bike for the past few months since I've got myself a new ride... I did ask a well experienced painter but he quoted 5k for it! :| coming to the tyre part... I did try using ceat gripp at the rear but it just didn't giv enough grip at all, mainly during corners. The tyres give out a lot of sound, just like a fully loaded truck. Yeah, I'm from chennai... Those pirelli's were available at any Bridgestone tyre points till last year. But no one seems to sell pirelli'sOriginally posted by s1d View Postwtfffff!! Those tire prices seem a bit on higher side.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Replaced 12,400 kms old Champion Power P-RZ9HC with 100 kms old NGK CR6HGP on my Dio(102cc) today.
Since rear panel was lifted up for the procedure, I cleaned primary Viscous AirFilter.
I've also noticed, boost-powder like deposits around the carburetor.
s1d Is it normal or something that needs further actions?

Looking at the old champion plug, seems the scoot was running a rich mixture (this may have been caused due to the clogged air filter)
I am still looking to source this ngk platinum plug, i had asked sibun but even he's had a tough time finding this part no.. he's gonna send me the regular ngk's in a couple of days and this will be the first time i'll be using the ngk on my dio (its always been on the stock plug every replacement thus far)

Why dint you replace the air filter ? (how many kms has it been used for, if it was a dry paper type one then it could have been cleaned with compressed air and reused)
by looking at the amount of dust, either you have put on a lot of km (maybe around 6000)since last air filter cleaning or you ride under the worst dusty conditions

Did you ride in rains/muddy roads or was the carb cleaned earlier ?? This usually happens when there is water and dust sticks to it .. sometimes if the carb is cleaned and then wiped with an oily cloth, then too dust tends to stick. Just to rule out any leak, y don't you get a water wash done and have the carb opened up and cleaned out.

I'm kinda leaning towards clogged air-filter.Originally posted by s1d View PostLooking at the old champion plug, seems the scoot was running a rich mixture (this may have been caused due to the clogged air filter) ...
It's the viscous-type air-filter, been using since ODO @8,700 kms (now ODO @12400), just 3,700 kms old air-filterOriginally posted by s1d View PostWhy dint you replace the air filter ? Last time (~1,000 kms back) I removed a teaspoonful of boost-powder.
Oh, Dio is ridden in the outskirts of Bengaluru on very dusty roads. I can bet one can't keep eyes wide open for 100m on these roads.
Seems like left over oil stains causing dust deposits. Ok, water wash & carburetor cleaning are in the pipeline.Originally posted by s1d View PostDid you ride in rains/muddy roads or was the carb cleaned earlier ?? Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Inadequate for what ?Originally posted by amey87 View PostHello guys can anyone advise if I can go for wider rear tires for my Honda Activa 2007 model bike?? The stock seem inadequate. Thanks
Instead of wider, try getting the stock size mrf zappers (which came on the dio)
Cpl of posts ago Arvind Sibi mentions using pirelli's ..try them at your own risk

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
yes they can, or you could also try the ceat secura neo.. (but only on rear, front it might cause a wobble/tire noise)Originally posted by amey87 View PostThanks for the reply..
Inadequate on grip I feel. Zappers on dio can be fitted for activa??
What is more important is that you maintain the right tire pressure.. on a cold tire 26-28psi front and around 34-36psi rear.(even riding for around 3 km will increase the temp and give wrong readings)

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
What is the average you are getting ?Originally posted by Hardeep Singh Sawhney View PostHii.!!! I have activa HET of 2013 but its not giving me good average and I also don't use it roughly so can you suggest me how can I increase the average...???
what is the average you are expecting ?
how many km's do you ride per day ?
Do you do short trips (under 5 kms) frequently?

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
The average is of 40 kmpl and I am expecting the average of aleast 50 kmpl
Daily usage is of 6-7 kmsLast edited by Hardeep Singh Sawhney; 07-31-2014, 10:14 AM.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
the average you are getting is ok and maybe you can extract around 4 km more (but definitely not 50kmpl), because you do very short rides. (frequent start-stop uses more fuel and is a mileage killer)Originally posted by Hardeep Singh Sawhney View PostThe average is of 40 kmpl and I am expecting the average of aleast 50 kmpl

If you still want to improve mileage, start of by checking, cleaning air filter (replace if necessary or if its more than 10000km) , maintaining correct tire pressures (26~28 front and 34~36 back depending on what you 'feel' is right) and regular change of engine oil (between 2000-3000km, and use 10w30 grade oil which is also available from Honda in a golden colored bottle)
I wouldn't suggest touching the carburetor unless you know some mechanic who is familiar with correctly tuning it & hopefully it hasn't been touched in the past.
