Close your eyes and pick up the Activa (110 or 125cc depending on your preference/budget).. stay away from the dio due to its fiber body panels.
btw.. i had something bad happen a cpl of days ago... two drunkards were having a brawl at 6am in the morning and pushing each other and fell on my Dio.. Damaged the side panel

        • Re: Gear Oil Change; Hero Pleasure, Honda Activa, Honda Dio

I have an activa and i asked JSP honda folks to change the gear oil. I think they used 90 grade oil (I am not very sure of the grade they used, but i remember him saying they dont sell this oil outside as they get it in 100 litre can and use it only for in house vehicle servicing). He charged me some 60 rs/- for 150 ml on bill. Ever since the oil change, i noticed poor pick up especially when accelerating from 0 till 25 km/hr. After that, its fine.

My doubt is, could this gear oil change made the difference? Can i continue using it till next servicing or immediately replace with 20W40?

          Thanks,
          Satish

              Hi guys,
Anyone know how many turns must be made in the carb for ideal mixture? I tried tuning for optimal AFR, but i find it very hard without a tachometer and had drop the procedure. Any better idea to tune it?

P.s- Can anyone help me out with the model number of spark plugs in 2010 Dio. And is it possible to buy the screws and bolts set from ASC , as I have lost 3 screws from the front panel and 2 bolts under the seat are also mising.

Firstly, good luck with your rebuild.
And almost all the problems you have mentioned above are usually caused by wrong AFR. If you haven't tried tuning your carb, do give it a try.

                      • replace spark plug -- ok do it, use original recommended plug
                      • new self start motor(current one is not working) -- are you sure the motor itself is gone? mostly it is the carbon brushes (10-20rs replacement) or maybe the starter relay. Get it checked and a good mechanic/auto electrician would be able to fix it.
                      • engine and gearbox flush - If you have been doing regular oil changes, engine oil flush not required..otherwise just drain current oil.. pour 250ml diesel+50ml oil and run engine for 30 seconds ONLY on IDLE -- DO NOT POUR PETROL,use only DIESEL... drain this and refill with engine oil.
                      • semi synthetic oil for engine and synthetic for gearbox -- not necessary, just use regular engine oil like castrol gearless scooter oil for the engine oil and have the gearbox opened and cleaned (simple job) and use a EP90 gear oil for refill
                      • Change air filter and have the carburetor dismantled and cleaned up
                      • new brake pads -- ok, if needed
                      • new accelerator wire - ok, if needed.

please add anything if i am missing or correct me
What is more important to bring the scooter back to good health is, have the drive belt, clutch shoes & springs and variator rollers inspected. If they have not been replaced in these 30000 km, then it is time you replaced these -- might be a little expensive (not sure of prices for scooty.. for activa the drive belt costs like 600rs, clutch shoe set around 700 and variator rollers around 300rs.)

                      the scooty is vibrating alot
Do all the above checks and also have the engine mounts checked, replaced if the mounts are cracked .. if not just tighten them up correctly

the noise is also very high
                      no smoothness at all
Do all the above, and you should see a change.

Check your manual, it will be mentioned. I own a 2007 dio and I am not sure if the 2010 (the one with the viscous air filter) uses same plug.. I think it does.
Check out the pics stock plug (p-rz9hc) and the compatible regular ngk plug (cr6hsa): - i have been using the stock plug from day 1, replacing them every 10-12k km.. no issues so far. just acquired the ngk's thanks to sibun, and will use them at next replacement.

Its a pain to deal with these asc's.. some sell spares over the counter some dont.. cranky people i tell you. You can easily buy these nuts and bolts at a local spares shop. The nuts under the seat are 12 mm nuts and for the front panel buy those black screws and also pick up some clamps (they are tiny aluminum thingy's that slide on to the panels/mountings and helps secure them better)

Thanks for the time. The spark plugs should probably be the same, Ill cross check it once more. Btw Is it worth replacing regular one with an iridium one?

As It Rained Today Here In Noida
The Temperature Was On The Lower Side

After 2-3 Kicks I Heard An Unusual Noise( To Describe It Was Of Like An Vacuum Being Created )
After Starting The Engine I Let It Run On Idle To Warm Up
Idling Was Normal But As Soon As I Turned The Throttle The Engine Would
                            Turn Off..Happened 2-3 Times
Finally I Managed To Let The Scooty Moving
And Man,The Acceleration Was Super Sluggish
The Scooty Was Refusing To Pickup Some Speed
Even When I Kept The Throttle At 40-45% The Scooty Was
                            Deaccelerating itself!
Engine Power Felt Like There Was No Air In The Tires(Checked, They Were Fine)

If you are 100% sure, then replace the starter motor.. unless some auto electrician is willing to fix this one up for you
And Is Using Diesel As Engine Flush Safe ?
Yes, but do it as i said... do not ride or rev the engine.. let it just idle for 30 seconds. Like i said not necessary if you have been changing oil regularly.
What If In Any Case The Piston Rings Are Faulty The Diesel Will Find It's Way To The Combustion Chamber..!
Well then, dont blame the diesel.. you need to get the underlying problem fixed. Have the compression checked and valve clearances adjusted.

Is there blusish smoke in the exhaust ? If so, its oil burning... could be due to valve seals gone bad or piston rings kaput ,and worse case needs a rebore/bore kit replacement.

I really do not think it is worth economically to go for the iridium plug. Unless you want to experiment of course..like me. Its difficult to get hold of an iridium one though..damn i couldn't even get the platinum one. Had to settle for the normal ngk.

Why do you want to fiddle with the carb ? Take it to a ASC and ask them to set it up correctly, and do not mess with it.

I Am Afraid That If I'll Ask The ASC To Change These Parts They Will Only Change Brake Pads And Engine Oil And Add Them All To The Bill..
So I Wish To Get Them From The ASC And Get Them Changed By A Mechanic In Front Of My Eyes.
