Air filter & spark plug, these two are mandatory to be replaced.
Rest of the things to be replaced depend on their usage & life. Rear Brake liners to be replaced every 8k-10k kms.
Still other things to do : Do change the front shock oil every 11k-12k kms. Or once every year, whichever occurs earlier. (each fork should be filled with 470ml of fork oil for Fz16/ Fzs/ Fazer)
Get he carburetor cleaned, handle coneset greased, wheel bearings greased, rear shock & swingarm greased, clutch, throttle freeplay etc.

I dont think that the showroom guys will look in to these stuffs which i told u.
They always try to escape these small works & tell that we will do it if any major problem persists.
I tried a lot to convince them on front fork oil change, they said, no need to change the fork oil & once i said to adjust the valves of my Fz, they said no need, finally i got angry & just scolded them & took away my bike, now i get my bike done at a Yamaha trained outside mechanic.

            • Bikers, hope you all are doing well with your bikes.

I own a fz which is just above one year old. I am somehow not convinced with my rear suspension system. Whenever the bike passes over a small bad patch, i can feel the jerk at the back side of my bike. Whenever i get my bike serviced, i always tell them to look into the rear suspension (which they never do). The bike makes a typical sound when passing thru rough patches, the sound is like "dhad dhad"

Is there any way to manage the suspension myself?? Is the suspension too hard or too soft??
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

                Cheers,
May be it's not intentional. I used to face the similar issue in my building. Unknowingly it used to get bent by someone passing by. I hate to bent it on both the side, which is normally done so what I did was, behind the number plate I bolted a very thin SS plate (colored it black) of same size. Since then it never got bent.

                  • Thanks Abhijit for the suggestion. I have just about a week before she goes under the knife for the RC parts heart transplant.. Offlately though she is giving me a lot of irritating trouble. When the temp drops at night. She would at times simply refuse to respond to the throttle and the rpms will go down to idling or almost at the stalling point. If i rev her hard for a bit.. everything becomes normal.. No flat spots nothing. Funnily the problem only occurs at night.. so i am still scratching my head over it!!

As a safety i got the bike checked at Kamla Yamaha. However, there is no issue with the carb tuning so the flat spots thing is thrown out of the window. I also had suspicion with the Air filter, Spark Plug and CDI unit as well. But all seems to be fine with them. I feel the Air Induction System is the main culprit however, i thought it would be best to get a few suggestion from you guys to pinpoint the problem..

                    Thanks & Cheers,

chk if you can source a better (read ngk iridium) spark plug. iridium spark plug helps in cold start.
you can also try increasing the idle rpm a bit.

The engine idling is set right.. it is at 1600 rpm when hot. Spark plug is not the issue at all as the SVC head checked it himself. The bike cranks at one go as she always has been since the day i bought her so i have no complaints on that front.. this new weird issue i am yet to track down the root cause. Worse case scenario will rip apart the whole bike when the RC kits are getting installed.. get the throttle body, fuel lines, everything checked and then see if then it is set alright.

                        Cheers,

it happens with mine as well in early mornings.... i dont think you should rip apart the entire thing for this issue. you are welcome to rip it apart if the issue persists even after sometime of the first start....

shiv another thing is our bikes are getting old, man....

The latter one is the problem which is why i am confused. The bike is completely warmed up and it happens say after riding her for 10-15 kms. The hiccups happen only once in a blue moon. But when they do it is really annoying. BTW the condition becomes worse if there is a pillion. So just out of curiosity i am trying to sort this problem out for good. If it still persists then dismantling everything would be the next step, ofcourse getting everything done by a trained technician.

Mine is 2 and half years old now but with just around 25k kms under her belt, it is not enough to categorize her as old yet... . Once i cross 50 k kms then yes it is time to look out for replacements..

Does it always happen at a certain RPM range? Is it like a overfueling or breakdown of spark issue?
Perhaps check the plug gap and possibly close it .1mm
