    Thanxx..
Go for MRF masseters. Grip in wet condition is too good, haven't experienced any problems this rainy season so far.
They look really good and have not experienced any punctures in past 4k kms.
There is no significant drop in performance as well. It's a direct for, go for it

        HI,
Currently i'm using Motul 7100 engine oil in my FZ.
Which oil i should use for top up whenever the oil level goes down.
(Motul 7100 has comparatively longer drain interval).

I dont have another bottle of Motul 7100 since it is bit expensive, can i use any other cheaper oil?
Is there any low cost alternative to use it for top up.

Why would oil level go down? This ain't diesel engine.
You can add any other oil, but you would be losing the advantages of Motul, which you have put in there. Why do you want to do that? a slight compromise.

I just read somewhere to channge oil aroung 5k kms since it is fully synthetic and keep checking oil quantity and top up if required for every 1k kms.
so, just got curious to know what others are filling?

            Hi XBHPians,

Recently my Yamaha FZ16 front fork oil seal was leaking.
So, I took my bike to a nearby local mechanic. He changed the seals as well as changed Fork oil in both the front forks.

He filled 350ml of Motul 20w fork oil in each fork. But, later while going through Yamaha FZ Thread i got to know that the correct fork oil quantity should be 459ml.
Is there any way i can fill 109ml more without disassembling the whole setup?

There is a disturbing loud noise whenever I go through any big pot hole. Mechanic is not willing to admit his mistake, he is telling me there is no problem with oil quantity and advising me to change the suspension springs which are inside !.

Please tell me if there is a way i can just open the top bolt, pour some oil? will it work.
Don't want to shell out 200 rs again for fork servicing in some other service center.

Synthetic Oil, by definition can run for over 100,000 KM's without losing any of the oil properties.
BUT, This heavily depends on the vehicle and Engine and its condition.
                - The pistons and rings should be in perfect condition, so that the fuel and air doesn't enter the oil chamber under pistons. These exhaust gases and flamable liquids mix in oil if they enter the oil chamber and which degrades oil lubrication properties.
                - The Engine by design shouldn't allow any such leaks, but you know.... engines allow them.
So, stop worrying about the engine oil and continue with your regular riding.

If you do a mistake, you pay for it.
There is no alternative. Pay them again and get the forks filled with right amount of liquid. If you dont fix it now, you will end up paying more down the line. So, get it done ASAP.

So your suspensions are not stiff enough now as there are less oil than the recommended level. Yes of course you can unseal the top cap and pour some oil but I would recommend you to completely drain out the old oil and get it filled with new oil up to the recommended level. And yes you should get it done ASAP otherwise your springs will loose their temper soon.

If you are 100% sure that the mechanic emptied Motul 350-mL bottle in each fork, yes, you can open the top fork cap/bolt (one that is covered by a rubber for aesthetics), pour 109 ml of similar 20W fork oil in each fork and see the result before taking it to the service again. Top fork cap/bolt is spring loaded and has to be opened with caution. Even after doing this, if there is "hitting" sound, then has to be attended from square 1.

                      Thanks Ashwanth,

I just needed that little push to go ahead with my first DIY on my Yamaha FZ.
I carefully opened the top fork cap using ring spanner and filled the exact additional 109ml fork oil required.
It was little tough to put those caps back due to spring pressure which was pushing it upwards.

Now the total fork oil quantity is 350+159 = 459 ml.
( used syringe bought from a medical shop for Rs.9 , as i couldn't get any other measuring jars even after searching in all nearby autopart shops)

I should have used the recommended 10W grade fork oil. 20w is not recommended for FZ forks. Ride is little stiff compared to stock.

My forks are working perfectly now,to check, I intentionally rode into the biggest pot hole i could get at high speeds.
Front disk breaks are stable now, earlier whenever I do sudden breaking forks used to get completely compressed causing some instability.

Local mechanic almost convinced me to change the suspension springs saying it is faulty. But, xbhp pointed me towrds right direction.

Got this pic somewhere in this forum:

We all need those little pushes. 20W is okay for now, it bothers you because you read its 10W in the Service Manual. Don't check forks by going over potholes at high speeds - not only unsafe, other damage especially to wheel bearings might occur. An nearly empty road with speed breakers is the best. Your bike (the classic version of FZ) looks good, pressure wash it once and lube it properly afterwards. The rear axle is almost at its end of travel - another exciting DIY for you . Assuming the chain is a continuous one, chain kit replacement opens another door to grease the swingarm bearings. How old is the bike, odo reads?

                        • Yamaha FZ 16 - 2011 Disc Brake Lock & Brake Fluid Change

                          Hello,

I own a Yamaha FZ 16 2011 model. 2 months ago I returned from a 2 week vacation, My bike was in the garage and covered up. When i returned back and started using it I noticed the front break was locking up and the disc overheating. I managed to take the bike to a Bajaj service station to topped my brake fluid, made a few adjustments and my bike was good to go again.

Fast forward to today, Again after a 1 week break my front break has locked up. I did some research and found out that the breaks might not have been BLED correctly and that air bubbles may have gotten into the break system.

After reading threads on HOW TO BLEED YOUR BREAKS correctly here on xBHP I've realised that the Bajaj services guys did a very hack job, which may have caused this.

How do I prevent this from happening again?

Also I managed to purchase 2 brands of Brake Fluid KBX and Powerup DOT3. Are these recognized brands? Seem very shady but my local mechanic said that they are what everybody recommends!

Would appreciate your comments and advice

Bro's I own a Yamaha FZ 16 2009 model. I am facing cold engine start up issues, inspite of choke usage...and in my recent services, inspite of cleaning the carburetor regularly, the bike struggles to rev properly both in idle and running conditions. The throttle response is too tight. What is the possible solution for this ? Can I replace the carburetor ? What model of carburettor does FZ use ??

Air filter condition please. Air filter should be the culprit. Try to replace it and check for few days.

What do you mean by throttle response? Accelerator cable is tight? Saw few fz’s with tight cables.

Oh thanks a lot.. so it must be air filter and not carburettor right ?? Yep accelerator cable is tight I believe..
