My bike is kick starter model. As I mentioned there is no spark in the spark plug, so the engine is not starting.
Before having no spark problem I measured 15-19 volts at 1500-3500 rpm in the battery terminal with battery installed.
I am also sure that the rectifier is not working properly. I changed the rectifier yesterday and the bike is still not cranking.
I checked the fuse on the self-starter relay(near the battery +ve terminal) and it was ok.
What should I do now?
Hai

Have you tried the following procedure to know whether spark is produced.

1. Remove the spark plug cap from the spark plug.
2. Now remove the Spark Plug from the engine.
3. Now connect the spark plug to the spark plug cap.
4. Now Kick start and observe whether there is spark formed in the spark plug.

Please try the following if spark is produced then we have to diagnose the carburetor.

Cheers

I can see mt mugello costs around 4250, can you tell me what is the difference between mugello and shifter, apart from dual visor. I want a helmet whose inner padding will last longer as i don't want to change it every year.

There is a separate section in this forum called www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcycle-accessories-riding-gear-review
You can choose MT Mugello, I am using it as a daily commute. It is very good helmet and most importantly it is light weight compared to my previous MT Blade.

You do not need to open the spark plug from the engine, just pull the plug cover from the spark plug, and hold it upward a little far from the open mouth of the plug cover (otherwise the spark might give you electric shock) and tell a friend or mechanic to kick (with ignition key on). If spark happens, then your ignition coil is okay and have to replace the fuse ; and if not, then replace the ignition coil (Rs. 250/- as well as spark plug Rs. 115/-)

psr sir,

My cousin has got the fz-s 2010 model. He is facing following problems:

Idle keeps varying while driving
Power too low
Mileage too low
Horrible overheating

Btw I should mention that he didn't get his clutch plates changed since buying it in 2010! Even the SVC guys didn't suggest it. I know that most of his problems are related to worn out clutch plates.

But why is the idle varying while driving?

1. First you see whether bikes go beyond 80+ or not, and do check whether the rpm is 6000 when the speedo is 79-80kmph (stock tyres) or 83-84kmph (oversized 140/70 r17 tyres), if the rpm is higher at that specified speed, then you are running on worn out clutch plates.
2. Overheating may occur due to rubbing of the friction plates to the pressure plates that is I am not sure about. You can check spark plug whether the tip is whitish grey/brown to check your friend's bike running on lean mixture or not. If yes then must tune your carburetor as well as clean carburetor from Yamaha ASC or some reputed bike points.
3. Power & Mileage decreased means you are running with worn clutch plates.
Clutchplate Assembly will take around 1600/- and only plates will take around 800/- plus labor charges extra.
Regards

Hey Guys...

This is Thousif from Chennai. I own an FZ16, 2010 model. I did not use it for the last couple of years. I have maintained the bike in the stock condition till date and now would like to do some performance upgrades. Please suggest me some good mechanic and also what all can i do to make the bike perform better on the city and also for highway rides (approx 100 kms per day).

1. Engine
2. Electricals
3. Sprockets
4. Clutches
5. Tyres
6. Exhaust
7. Headlight
8. Air Filter

Also let me know if Daytona Kit does any good and is still available in the market.

BUT PLEASE FIRST LET ME KNOW OF A GOOD MECHANIC WHO CAN SUGGEST/WORK ON ALL THE ABOVE POINTS. I dont want to sell my bike as it is my first own property.

Please could somebody tell me the price of the 'speedo gear kit' ?
I recently gave the bike to a mechanic whose charges are looking fishy.
Also I live a bit far away from any service centre so this will be a great help.

Performance Upgrades are not RELIABLE so you may end up spending extra after the costly upgrades. But the following safe MODs can be done.

1. Engine- I don't know how reliable the FZ Big Bore kit is, many claimed 10-15% boost in performance as well as fuel economy increased too. But, you have to contact Mr. Joel Josheph (Race Concepts, Bangalore) for entire upgrade list. I will not recommend you to do that upgrade because you may end up spending more if it is not installed properly.
You replace stock spark plugs to NGK CR8EIX Iridium Spark Plugs (650/-) for better throttle response.

2. Electricals- Nothing, just replace the stock horns with R15's horn (320/-).

3. Sprockets- If you love highways then replace the front sprocket to R15v2's 15T Front Sprocket (100/-). It will tall gear the bike so that you can cruise at 85 kmph in only 6k rpm. But, city ride will need lots of gear shifts.

4. Clutches- Cannot say, it is light weight and I like it. Hard spring can pull the bike quick but painful in the city.

5. Tyres- Rear: Michelin Pilot Street 140/70 r17 (5600/-) & Front: Michelin Pilot Street 110/70 r17 (3600/-)

6. Exhaust- Race Concept Free Flow Exhaust for FZ16 (10500/- Approx) (contact Mr. Joel Joseph, Race Concepts, Bangalore), torque will decrease but the performance in the higher rpms will increase for sure.

7. Headlight- Here is a link

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...5bdadf47ihbqM4 3500/-

But you have to purchase two (give it to any Friend OR olx it) , as it is not sold separately, expect 20-22 days shipping from China. Lights are very good as well as less wattage than stock, so no wiring have to do.
& for Pilot lights install any god quality T10 LED lights (50/-) of your favorite color .

8. Air Filter- Don't go for any high performance filter like (K&N, Simota or BMX etc), they will make more heat & can damage or blow up the engine. Stock is fine.

Unfortunately I have no idea of good mechanic in Chennai, Sorry for that.
