  • Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

    Greetings everyone.

    I'm a fellow biker from Dhaka. I own a Yamaha FZ-S FI V2 (2017)

Previously I've owned a Honda CB Trigger and I wanted to upgrade, so I sold my old one and bought this one(picture attached). I'm absolutely shocked with this bike's performance. We don't have speed limit so high speeds is not a problem, but doesn't mean I do this unnecessarily, safe driving is always number one priority. But at times you do feel the need for speed where you want to push the limits. But for this bike, the performance is way too poor. My old CB Trigger was much much faster than this bike. Apart from the looks the I'm utterly disappointed with the performance of this bike.

So with few research I've decided to install/replace few things:

    1. Racing Coil
    2. Brisk Spark Plug
    3. K&N High Performance Air Filter

I've expected at least an upgrade of .5 kW from these 3 parts but alas.

The main problem is the bike's performance is very much unpredicatble. If I red-line(fuelcut) and shift at times I can reach 117kmph, notice that my 4th gear's max speed is 109. Sometimes even at red-line 4th gear's max speed is 91. This is very much confusing as I can't determine the factors that are affecting drastically my gear ratio by this much. Wind can be a factor but I don't think wind is effected by gear ratio. I'm fairly overweight of 98kg(s). But I'm always driving it, so weight can't be the factor once again and I never speed when I have a passenger with me, and the scenario's i've mentioned above is when I was alone.

What is the main reason for my bike to perform so inconsistently? I keep my tyre pressure of 35psi(front) and 43(rear), and I use Shell 10W40 Synthethic Engine oil. My bike's currently doing 9800km on the odometer.

Despite the performance upgrades I've decided to perform a drag race between another FZS FI same model and I find it that after 95 kmph I'm falling behind.

    Expert opinions needed.

    Thank you

First thing I want tell you you had a cb trigger which has a 14.35*bhp (10.70*kW) @ 8500 rpm engine and you are "UPGRADED" A FZS V2 which has 13 bhp engine!!!!

When ever you want to upgrade your bike firstly you need to know what is your current bikes spec sheet and then you need to look up to upgrade you want to go for.

V2 model is mainly built for the city traffic riding with a good milage and decent cruise on highway. how much ever modifications you do on it, it will only give you a mild difference on performance. Changing parts with warranty period will may cause you troubles..!

        Hi Guys,

Can anyone confirm the reason for the quoted noise? After the first service I started having this sound from the chain. Previously the sound used to start at around 45kmph and then remained as I increased the speed. As soon as I slowed down below 45kmph the sound disappeared. First I thought maybe the SVC has overtightened the chain which might be causing that sound. So I got the chain loosed from outside and I think it helped a bit. I think the sound has reduced but still I could hear it. I have done around 1170 kms till now and got my chain lubricated from the SVC 3 times.

You have to clean the chain every 600-700kms and lubricate it. Service center guys doesn't clean the chain properly. Some little amount of chain noise always will be there since it's an open chain drive

Hi Bro.. thanks for the reply.. I have decided to clean and lubricate the chain myself.. I am searching for kerosene since a few days for chain cleaning.. I also bought Motul gear oil for lubrication.. maybe cleaning and lubricating it myself will solve the problem.. I'll get back once I do this and report if my problem was solved.. maybe it'll help someone in future searching for solution to this problem

Also you have to leave your bike stand still at least for few hours to get the lubricant get settled on the chains. Or else it will spill all over the rim and the chain will get drained fast again it will start making the noise[emoji106] [emoji106]

Thank you bro for this info .. I wasn't aware .. because yesterday I added some gear oil on the chain in the hope that it will solve the issue .. but I straight away started riding the bike .. I will make sure once I clean and lube the chain .. I won't ride and let the lube settle

                    Hey there...need ur help

Serious issue:. my 2012 Fzs' rear alloy wheel is leaking air from its corner..(somewhere between alloy and tyre)
I tried to fix it by gas heating and repairing its shape but still the issue exists.. the shape of alloy is now seems to be perfect. I think some issue is with tyre as it is 120/80 17 bias ply tyre not radial. ( I know it is wrong profile but i was not aware at the time of installation) ..
So changing tyre to its genuine profile would solve my problem OR not???

I think tyre is not tightly fitted or something else.
I am unable to ride my bike as it leaks air everyday and it's really frustrating to fill air everytime before riding.

I searched about tyre construction as bias ply and radial tyre are far different in construction. Bias ply tyres have stiffer side wall... So maybe stiffer sidewall pressurising the alloy wheel's side wall and causing trouble. This is only my perception about this issue.

Help me guys. I want genuine solution.

Well I don't have my FZ s anymore but I can say that it's generally a good idea to stick to stock type and size, tell us what, get a correct size used tyre from tyre shop fitted to your bike n see if that solves the problem, u may save some cash if that's the case. If not, you may have to get a new alloy wheel. Still a good idea to check for leaks in tyre itself and air valve

                      Happy riding

Standard Tyre pressure mentioned on the bike sticker itself is 28psi(front) and 33(rear). you are over inflating the tyre leading to decreased surface contact of the tyres with the road. this could be the cause for degraded power transfer.

Guys I am having various kinds of noises in my 2018 fzs which has done only 1430kms.

                          1. There is a kirr kirr or maybe tarr tarr kind of noise from around the right hand side of the bike. Feels like coming from the area above the engine. Not sure what it is called but I think from where it sucks air. First I thought this was tappet noise so I got it adjusted during my 3rd service. But the noise is still there and it is very audible and irritating. I showed this to the SVC many times and they say this is normal. This wasn't there when my bike was new. At around 1000kms this noise started and it gets worse when the bike gets heated. I even showed this to the Yamaha engineer and he said it is timing chain or I am not sure cam shaft noise and we'll have to open that part and fix. He said since your bike is performing fine, there is no need to do this. But I get very irritated when I ride as it doesn't feel normal to me. This type of noise comes from very old bikes.
                          2. There is a whining noise from the bike when it reaches 45kmph. First I thought this might be chain noise. So I cleaned and lubed the chain but the noise seems to have increased.

I have done all the services on time and these issues started after the first service. I have complained many times to the SVC and even wrote emails and called Yamaha customer care. They just say visit the SVC or schedule a meeting with the engineer. But everytime I go there they just say this is normal and all is in your head. I feel like I am riding an old 1lac kms done bike everytime I take my bike out.

Guys I want your opinion and expertise since you have experience with the bike. I am thinking of taking legal action against Yamaha and their SVC as I am tired of complaining them again and again and I didn't pay for this.

Similar problem was reported by sr motoworld YouTube channel, he used motul 20w 50 synthetic oil, but i advice you not to use 50 grade oil, compare with similar aged fz and show to the svc as a proof!
