  • New FZ-16?

    Hello All!

    This is my first post here. So glad to meet such great bikers here. I was looking to upgrade to black fz16 beauty but found out there is a new release in feb. Is this true? Should I wait?

    Any other pointers of any new versions of this beauty coming out soon?

      and i remember a guy anjit sharma or so getting a mileage of >50 constantly..check the initial threads..

      ps: i learnt to ride a bike properly a week after my fz got delivered.. so if such a amateur can get >45, then yes you can too..

        The reserve is 1.4litre. I have learnt that the most important thing for the bike is the intial 1000km ride. You must ride it carefully so that the engine lasts for a long time. I used to ride a pleasure scooter, and the speed was 40-50. So I had no problem in running this beast at 45-50speed. Mostly the rpm is that matters.
        The bike, when rode at 3500rpm gives, the maximum mileage. For a street performer like the fz, mileage is not an issue but to those indian price sensitive customrers, a mileage would be nice (like me).
        From a review from mouthshut.com , I have learnt than the maximum mileage ever obtained by the fz 16 is 58.4kmpl. That by riding at 47-49kmph at 3500-4000rpm ( on the chennai highway ) I think.



        Anyway, completed my first service. After the first service, I started going at 60-70 kmph. After filling 1 litre of petrol and riding completely at 65-75km/hr speed, I have found out that the mileage is 42kmpl. So even if you go upto a speed of 90, a mileage of 40 is assured. Anyway I am lucky that i got a nice unit.

        Another thing to improve mileage is to shift up rapidly, drive mostly in 5th gear, and change the gears at 4000rpm. Also using the front and back brake together is excellent. It stops the bike right where you want to stop.


        Anyway, please advice me on the following issues
        1. Will using a k & n filter increase the performance and also mileage ( I have heard that the mileage increases 10% )
        2. Can I change the seat and fit a more comfortable seat ( a split or continous , I want the back seat to be comfortable. )
        3. And finally, Is it possible for cosmetic upgradation to the mighty fz-1 ? What would be the exact cost.

        • I get a mileage of about 35-38 kmpl constantly, nothing much. It's not a problem but after using a P180 classic for 6.5 years, I'm used to 600 kms on a tankful, that's about a month's fuel & the capacity as you all know was a fantastic 18 lts. I'm planning on selling the bike & going in for a ZMA (carb) or the P 220 Dtsi. The bike struggles on the highway past 90 kmph, the engine feels quite strained. The top speed I did was 104 kmph, I think it could've done better.

              • How is the fazer compared with fz-s like handling,mileage,manure in city traffic,highway drive etc...

                Why am asking these coz fazer is 4-5 kg more than fz-s & fz16

                    speed you talking about might be your problem

                    for me at 110kmph engine or bike has no problem

                    but i would say fz has better pick up and better handling in 150 series

                      1. Yes. It will increase both.
                      2. Split ones look ugly on FZ
                      3. Well, might be possible, but will definitely ruin the original killer looks of the bike! Just my opinion.

                        Handling n mileage is more or less same. Highway drive is comfortable, since the front fairing is wind tunnel tested, it'll prevent you from blasts of air, and also the added weight gives more stability at higher speed. No problems while riding in city traffic, but sometimes the rear view mirror may cause problems.

                          yes malik....the misfires are loud i suppose coz i can hear them loud and clear even with my lid on head.....

                          and by the 2nd gear choking i mean it will come to a halt if i dont engage the clutch....or for that matter it even stops when i start after stopping at a traffic signal in first gear.....
                          i dont think it shud halt at 10kmph in 2nd gear too....

                          • @ Abhijeet: I totally agree with you that I came down the ladder, but I thought, I wouldn't be using it on the highway for rides, because I also have a comet gt 250 for that. But this Sunday the bike was in the workshop, for a Footpeg bracket replacement so I had no other option but to take the FZ for a ride. The bike is SUPERB no doubt, but it's a 150 cc. Had it been a 200 cc, it would've been much better.

                            @ Malikkhan: Yes it might be my problem, but it is there. As you said it is one of the best bikes in the 150 cc segment, I totally agree with you. It's a fantastic bike.

                              if the guys at YAMAHA are not helping you,better take it up with the higher authorities or go to another service center,because your probs are genuine.
                              The FZ shouldn't struggle to get to 100 anyway.and try one thing...if you dont know anyone with a FZ,go to their showroom and get a TEST ride or request some customer to allow you to take ride.

                                I really don't feel something like being prevented from so called blast of air..yeah there is certainly a more comfortable posture in Fazer than any other bike..but that fairing IMHO adds more to the look value...I have done plenty of highway run..in normal posture I hardly feel any difference..but I tried blasting many times by sitting in that aerodynamic posture in that case there is a slight difference.
