Same here , if u check a few pages back I posted a similar query. Yes the bars do drop fast and the fuel sign starts blinking too. But still if you open up the tank u'll see enough petrol.
Have spoken to my FZ16 owner friends in the building and they too have the same issue.
The thing is we have to depend on our knowledge of the avg the bike is giving and the amount of petrol we've put in.
This is a known issue with the fuel indicator and I believe we have to live with it.
i also agree that the fuel indicator is not that sensitive

i have experienced that when we are ascending on the fly over or riding

in ascending position that is while riding upside if your bike haves

limited fuel or less fuel the bike stops immediately after climbing

though the fuel is still left in the bike

@sarvajit : reserve is been said about 1.4L

and i rode upto 10 km on reserve

as considering the reserve i would have rode upto 30 or 35 km

          • Are you guys doing the tankful to tankful Fe calculation method or relying on that defunct fuel indicator to calculate mileage? Cause i got about 50kmpl highway riding with a 6k kms ridden Fz16.

first of all completely empty your tank by riding,(valve ON)

until the bike comes on reserve(res)

                ,
immediately fill the fuel and switch the fuel valve to "ON"

i calculate by accurately pouring 1L AND SETTING the trip meter to 00

ride and calculate km until the bike comes on reserve ,

km you rode comes on the trip meter

                i get 36 or 38 kmpl

                i use this method
i guess this gives me accurate kmpl

Thanks for detailing the method but i am aware of the specifics of the method. I hope it will help others calculate their FE properly. I was only questioning as to how members here were calculating their FE. The 1L method isn't a good way cause then you will get an average for only that particular session/trip not the overall average. I'd recommend doing a tankful method instead of filling just 1 ltr fill up the whole tank and reset the trip meter. Much better since after riding for so long you'd have a better idea since the running will be done in a variety of conditions.

                      • Guys..hi everyone...got an issue with my FZ.....
2nd service done at 3000km....and now 4000 on ODO....
It misfires....mostly after driving for sometime...
also pick up is better and no less vibes when engine is cold....i.e after starting n warming up the engine for about 20-30 secs....after the engine gets hot its all gone.....

pick up, top speed is screwed and it vibrates like hell just like our beloved
splendors and platinas(no offence to the brand)....

also it chokes in 2nd gear when speed comes down to 10kmph.....
when i tell this to the SVC guys they say it is perfectly normal.....

WTF????? How can this be normal when i read about you guys how smooth
is the FZ engine and has the best pick up and torque in class.....
Should i take up this issue with the Yamaha regional manager or is this normal in ur FZ's too....reply all please
                        cheers...

ya right dude 1L method will give you the average for that particular session

i will try out tank full method

but whenever i try to full my tank the tank overflows in about 8-9L

though there is still space left for few more litres(tank capacity 12L)

though i will try this method too and give you the reply

                          thank you for this post,

                          • There is a thread for calculating mileage. Please search the forum guys.
This is what I have been doing since the last 8-9 years:
When it comes to reserve, I try to look for the nearest petrol pump. Fill in an even amount, say 10 litres. Then reset the tripmeter&calculate how much it went till it came to reserve next time. My R15 goes about 430kms.for 10 litres. This is known as the reserve-to-reserve method.
There are other methods like empty-to-empty etc.but I found this to be the easiest way of calculating.
All methods will have a 2-3kms.error, but over a 10 litre filling I don't find it to be a problem.
The most accurate results are found with a measuring can of 100ml, which the SVC guy will hold while you ride. That is if you are really interested!
                            Quench my thirst with gasoline!

what misfires you are talking about

are these misfires are low in intensity of sound or very loud

because i too get misfires that are normal with low intensity(that is normal) these small intervals get after small interval of time , these type of misfires we get it in p220 200 too,

please tell me about the choking in 2nd gear (please elaborate)

does the bike stops at 10kmph
