i mean i havent really noticed the rpm wen i'm doin 62-63....but the vibrations start wen i cross this speed in 5th gear....maybe the rpm is jus a lil bit above 4.5k...wats wrong???

      • Sprocket change

Has anyone replaced the sprockets of their FZ with a smaller rear or larger drive?

I want to use a longer gearing for touring use since 5th is too short for long highway runs. I was considering either a 37 or 38 teeth rear or 14 teeth drive.

If anybody has, full details requested.

Hey here are some key points when taking delivery which i suffered and know

1>first of all take the bike in the morning or afternoon dont get it in the evng because you cant make out any scracthes or dents in bike

2>drive the bike for 1/2 km and see if it has any sounds or not because once u sign the form they say to come again another day

3>If petrol bunk is far away from showroom pay them and tell them to put extra litre of petrol[in my case bike stalled in middle of the road 5 min taking delivery, worst scence to push the new bike]

4>check all the accesories like tool kit medical kit has been given..
and freebies like hat, keychain[if u really want it].

I asked for pointers here no one helped,
buddy i hope u dont face problems in delivery
          good luck

However, being a die cast aluminium alloy wheel, the amount of correction possible is more limited than with steel wheels. I personally feel that you should contact aluminium alloy wheel specialists for this.

Also, check with others users and mechanics to find out whether the problem is a manufacturing defect or due to normal (hopeless Indian) road conditions.
If it's the former, you should pressure the dealer for a warranty replacement or repair.

Dude, whatsoever it is, its definitely a manufacturing defect coz i noticed it on very 1st day.. & in anycase I dont think there are worst enough roads in mumbai to disturb the allignment of the monstrous heavy duty tyre of FZ so soon (just 1 week)

You have to be precise: is it your tyre or wheel rim that's the problem? Also, misaligned is different from deformed.

Misalignment is simply a mistake in adjustment that can be corrected easily.

Deformation is permanent (non elastic) change in shape of a component.

A deformation of the rim is difficult to correct. A deformed tyre is impossible to correct.

If it's your tyre itself that's deformed, then ask for a replacement under warranty. The FZ's tyre is not a heavy duty tyre though it's a lot bigger than other tyres. It's actually supposed to be weigh only as much as a narrower tyre and its construction is designed for light to medium duty. The load index on it (after the size on the sidewall) gives a good indication of its strength.

It doesn't take much to internally damage a tyre. A hard impact on the edge of a pothole usually does the job. The tyre may look fine on the outside but it's internal structure may have been damaged. This will be noticed as a wobble or vibration at various speeds. Such a damaged tyre is also more likely to burst at high speeds or when overloaded.

but yesterday the switch kept on missing and now today its not working at all,

did this work? i am getting the same problem
the switch is getting contact sometimes and sometimes it just wont play. another thing i noticed is that it was working fine for about 10 presses continuously, and then i tried switching off the engine (while still running) and started it up again.. and then i got nothing. :-/

my fz is just 7 months old with 6200 on the odo...

bro i would like to suggest you to visit the yamaha service center n ask the people over there about the problem....if its going to turn into a major problem later then better change the switch in the warranty period....

If the vibration is slightly higher from normal..its not an issue..if u feel the vibration is too high,do check with service personnel.

                        • Hi guys
I am going in for my last free service soon, I feel my bike to be a little loose in front and shocks make noise when pushed wildly while holding the front brakes.

I don't know what to tell the service guys about this they always say its ok, so i feel when my last service will be over i will be charged for rectifying it...
Kingdom FAR FAR away is where I wanna be...
But I can't find a road headed that way.

check if there if any oil leak in the front shocks....sometimes the noise even happens because of that....

that sound can be repaired when your "STEERING HEAD NUT" is tightened..it comes when you ride your bike excessively over bumps and bad roads.."Steering head nut" is the big nut which is right below the ignition key..

                              • One hell of a cold ride....

Last night was bored and jus wanted to ride...had been cooped up in office all day and just needed to get out....So took out my bike and headed particularly nowhere...Bike has just completed the run in period and had a full tank of gas...left home at round 11:45am took up the palm beach road from vashi and as soon as the traffic thinned let it rip....even at 90kmph i was at total control...after reachin the karave exit noticed there was no vehicle in sight and decided to run loose.....as the temperature dropped and the speed increased the bike showed no glimpses of being overwhelmed by the task at hand....touched 107kmph easy...it seemed the bike could do much more....120kmph minimum....
but by then was at the exit signal for palm beach....met up wid a few frnds at kharghar...had a cuppa and a omelet-pav....man CBD is cold these days....was dressed in 3/4ths and thread bare t-shirt....the food and the chai gave me renewed strength....gritting my teeth drove up to Panvel but dropping temperatures refused to let me continue.... came back round 2am....
Perhaps there are no better roads in Mumbai at least than the palm beach road to test your bike's limits...had an amazing time ....the cold made it even more exciting....

                                Couple of questions:-
Where do you guys buy your biking gear from??(Jackets gloves etc.)
They are a must in this weather....
How far do you expect to spend on this??
as in i wanna buy but Rs 5000 on jackets is jus not justified in the parents dictionary....
Where can i get this stuff cheap in bombay???
                                please help.....
