  • My fz 16 completed 3000km yesterday. I simply did the calculation on the total kms on the odo and the total litres of petrol poured onto it. For the 3007km, and for every single drop of petrol poured into it, the combined average till now is 51.657 km/litre. I think this is quite high for a FZ. what do you think.

Scratches have started forming on the tank and the black paint on the rim of rear wheel has started to come off. Is is time for repainting? or would a good wax coating be enough? I don't know anything about wax coating. Plz advice me on how I can apply it and which brand and how much I should use.

I liked the wine-red color of the limited edition hunk a lot. Is it possible to apply this to my bike? what would be the cost?
    Reduce 1 km/hr speed, add 1second 2 ur life.

That IS truly awesome. Yamaha should offer color patterns like these in retail. Something like what Scooty Pep offered. Am I talking crazy???

@mods. I apologize but the above info requires these many smileys....

On my part I think the average is dropping after 1st service. Of course I AM driving must faster and much harder. Put in Speed for 500 bucks (almost 9.5L) barely touched 300Km on my trip odo

When you use paste waxes (like the consistency of shoe polish), remember to use a wet cloth or sponge (wet, not soaking/dripping) to apply the wax and apply a very thin coat. If the coat is thick you will struggle to buff it off.

DO NOT USE wax polish on matt (dull) finish plastic. It cannot be buffed off and will dry into whitish residue that looks ugly! Use a silicone polish. I use Waxpol's Protectol (Rs. 110) for this purpose and I find it works well.
hey i've been using carnauba polish on my bike for the last few months , it seems to be quite good , i had the same worries as u guys but the polish seems to be working well ...

well , you must be the envy of most fz owners here , me included , i get that sort of average on highway rides ( which makes up most of my ride time ), but otherwise too , mine's not bad , i get around 43 , hasn't changed at all since i got my bike , hasn't gone up , hasn't come down ... i've done about 4k on the odo ... regarding the scratches , that would depend on how deep they are ... light ones can be eliminated with polish , deeper ones touch up ... haven't had any issues with the rim-paint comin off , so no idea about that ...

have been thinking of a paintjob , but no idea where to get it done , bangy guys , any help ?
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

I know one painter near Magadi road, Vijayanagar who's work I've seen. He has a very small workshop and somewhat crude tools but the results he gets are really good.

I don't recall the name but I remember his workshop was located in one of the narrow lanes behind the present Shell petrol bunk near Dasarahalli. PM me if you want more info.

              • Just completed my first service for the bike and the mileage has dropped a bit. But i think its mostly because I've been riding much harder. Still getting 37 KMPL. Anything 45+ sounds awesome!!

Looking hange the color scheme of my FZ as well. And paint shop recommendations in mumbai would be very welcome!

Hi phenom well that is usual that did happened with me after 1st service but i went to the svc guys and they fixed it and now my bike is giving 35-40 in city ride. The guy at service center just put on the idle rpm on highest and started screwing and unscrewing in carburetor and now got a increase of 10-15 km/pl. U should go to service center.

so then after the carb setting hows the pick up of the bike?? is it the same or has it reduced???
sigpicGirls are like roads, more the curves, more the dangerous they are.

To ride or not to ride?? is a....
                    very very stupid question....

Right, I second that query by k2cool. The SVC guy probably reduced the fuel intake into the engine thereby increasing the mileage. But that should cause a drop in pickup... Not to mention high engine temp...

                      • how much will riding triples(with two pillions)affect the bike??considering the monoshock being fitted under the tank in FZ, is it possible that the tail piece will get bent riding triples in a average road with few speed breakers??..i know its practically very difficult to sit squeezing your man area between the tank and pillion.....

                          • This time, my query is about tuning. I know the basics like you have to ride a minimum for 20 minutes, keep the engine hot and turn the gold screw on the carb. My only question is that is it safe for me to do? Or should I go to the service centre ( Or should I do some turning and then go to the svc? )

I have an idea for my fellow xbhp fz owners. Let's celebrate next week as mileage conservation week. Just follow these tips and calculate your fuel consumption.
                            1. Draw the bike to full in each gear and shift up at 4000rpm.
                            2. Shift down only on below 2000rpm and avoid unnecessary clutching and down shift.
                            3. Drive at 3500rpm at 46-49km/hr. and observe the difference. ( Don't forget to check the air pressures. )/
                            Reduce 1 km/hr speed, add 1second 2 ur life.

hey , for tuning , unless your absolutely sure you know what your doing , i think the SVC may be a better idea , about the mileage part , i guess most of us can agree with the first two points ... but having a bike such as the fz , maintaining it at 3.5k RPM and at45-50kmph was a pain for most even during the run-in , hence to follow that after run-in is something i don't think many of us can do ...
