Another thing to say is I was able to cruise continuously for a few minutes at 110 Kmph.. It was a straight road and I never decreased the throttle..I could feel the acceleration going up...but Once my speedo reached 110, It will go back to 108 then 109 and again 110.. this continued till I brought it below 110.
Also the fuel gauge never gives me an idea about how much oil I have in my tank.. some times it will give the first column blink.. when I stop some where and start the bike again, It may show 3 columns... I am really fed up with this.
    1.like suggested 55w OSRAM NB's is good
2.There is nothing wrong with FZ's front disks.Either you are not braking properly or something is wrong with your brakes.
3.Fuel Gauge is unreliable, there is nothing much we can do abt.the reason why its shows 3 bars from 1 after you stop the bike is becouse the bike is slanted to one side when on side stand and at this time the fuel sensor cant read the exact amt but once you straighten the bike it will go back to normal.

Yes... I too think my front brakes has got some problems...
Even yesterday I felt it.. I was riding through ByPass road in Trivandrum at some 70-75 Kmph.An Auto Rikshaw suddenly enterned the road from a small pocket road. I applied the brake ( front + rear). But the bike stopped only after a few meters.
I have seen Guys performing well with FZ front brakes such that the bike stops on the spot where he brakes and the back wheels rising high in the air

That my friend is a STOPPIE , it's a stunt . won't be a very good idea under a hard braking situation like the one you found yourself in ... have the discs checked .

Guys one thing i came across yesterday , i found that the bike skids wen u use the rear brake more than the disc . i.e more pressure on the rear . but wen i used only the front disc at a greater speed it stopped perfectly ... i was sorta expecting the disc to lock up .

                • ^^ if you transfer your weight to your wrists, and in effect to the handlebars, loading up the front, it will give a much better braking, and will also prevent the front wheel from locking up.

Generally the front will lock up when there is no load or little load on the front wheel, or there is a loss of traction due to the road conditions.

hmmm... sub-consciously been doin the same thing , i do load up the front while braking , never had a problem with the front end , so is this the reason why my bike skids wen i use the rear brake ? going by the same logic as applied to the front ?

When you brake (with either brake), the weight transfer due to the dive at the front fork will cause the weight to be transferred to the front wheel. With more weight on the front tyre, grip will be higher too and therefore braking too. The converse of this is true for the rear brake. So hard braking will cause the rear wheel to lock easily.

The rear brake is not very effective at stopping the bike when riding single but it becomes quite effective with a pillion since there's more weight on the rear.

                        • Maintain the bike properly (services, oil changes, etc.) and try to improve your riding skills. That's about it for basic biking advice.

As for engine performance upgrades, that's a different matter altogether. You should ask a more specific question for useful answers.

there are various ways to improve the engine or the overall performance some of the most feasible ones are:
                            1. K&N air filter
                            2. Iridium Spark plugs
                            3. Splitfire cables
                            4. Free flow exhaust
                            5. shifting to semi synth lube
                            others inculde:
                            big bore engine
                            nos system
changing the stock sprocket and chain etc.

but with every increase in performance there is a drop in the mileage...

                            • fazer nearin 6000kms 3rd service

Guys my bike bought on november 2009 clocked 5900km now due 3rd service anytime now.my bike started heating up after short distance of 7 to 10km after 2nd service.service centre guys told this is normal but i dunno.a friend of mine told to change the oil so at 4000 kms i changed the oil to castrol active 20w40 semi synthetic but heating up still continues so i have few questions regarding the oil
is there any damage to the bike if i do not use oil of the prescribed rating(20w40)
which oil should i preferably use....?
i was thinking of a)motul 15w50 factory line
                              b)castrol power1
c)i visited an oil shop there was valvoline sythetic blend oil which doesnt have any rating they said its very good, costs around 300+bucks
d)or should i stick to the prescribed yamalube??

any1 here in the thread have same heating effect after short rides?

no such problem till now... but one thing is you should not change the figure after w i.e fz runs on 20w40... so the options u should go for are 15w40 or 10w40 and not 15w50.... and when you visit a center for valvoline they will always say its very good....
