I just bought a FZ-16. This is the first time I'm riding a geared vehicle. I don't have much control over the clutch and gears, so I'm afraid that I may damage my engine as it is new.
Please give me some BASIC tips on riding[changing gears and braking] and maintaining the bike. The manual doesn't say much.
Please help me.Thanks.
Have an experienced friend take you at night on a road or even better an empty ground. Best way to learn is get on one and figure it out once you have the basics down. Be gentle with the clutch and everything else will take care of itself. If the bike is still in its running-in then keep it below 4.5k RPM. You will inevitably gun the throttle wrong and exceed this a few times but as long as you do your best to be careful you should be okay.
Manual has everything :|

you can go for a studds or vega decent quality kind of made for beginners types.also try and get some knee and elbow guards..... and dont worry the slow speeds wont have any effect on your engine as long as you are in the proper gear.....Originally posted by ilovemybike View PostThanks. I'll soon get 17.Also I'll get a temporary learning license. Please suggest me a good and not so costly helmet. And please tell me about that engine damage. Can my riding cause any problems to a new engine as I ride very slow (25-35 mostly). Please thanks.
usually this is the speed range you can go for in different gears (many people may disagree)
1st gear- 0-15/20
2nd gear 10-30
3rd gear 20-40/45
4th gear 35-80/90 (although i am not recommending you to go to rpms higher than 4.5k-5k untill and unless you are thorough with the bike and have gain some confidence and not over confidence...)
5th gear - seriously NOT recommended......Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

it can be doneOriginally posted by Samarth_M View PostGuys,
Have any of you had your indicator light circuits modified so that you can use them as hazard lights as well? Can this even be done?
there are two ways to do that....
1. put all the indicators on the single switch...
2. a tougher method will be to take separate wires and attach them to a separate switch....Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

I would like it if I could press the indicator button to get the hazards, press right to turn on and left to turn off and vice versa on the other side. Any idea if the SVC guys could do it or how much they'd charge?Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postit can be done

if you press right it will be on and if you press it hazards will be off....
but then wont you problem in indicating which side you are going to turn....??Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

I was wondering if there's a way to do it without affecting indicating.Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Posti dont think the svc guy will do that....

I don't reckon it could be that hard... people are rewiring headlights all the time and I suspect that's even tougher.

since the starter worked after 15mins the problem is obviously with the battery.
2. dude check with different petrol bunks. most petrol bunks have faulty air meters. its normal for a 3-5psi drop in 5days. probably the meter with which you checked shows 5 as 10psi. if not that then check your entire wheel for bends or a faulty valve. go to a proper tyre shop and they will do it for you.
3. your console is screwed. get it changed. did it rain? or you washed your bike? anyway no problem just get it changed.Originally posted by r@m View Post1> Next time try starting the bike with your clutch pressed if it starts then its the problem with your gear lever[sometimes it happens to me]
2> you definetly have a leak try another shop or for a better solution try the liquid seleant that avoids puncture.
3>hmm faulty lcd or fuel guage, guys it happened again today , bike fired up at the 1st attempt but wen i stopped at a signal a few kms down it refused to crank , i push-started it , rode back home and then the starter works again ...Originally posted by dude_phenom View PostHey nand. Did you try the method of filling high air pressure and then pouring water over the tyre surface and observing for bubbles? That is the best way to find out. Oh dont forget rubbing a wet finger over the nozzle too. that could also be faulty.
about the tyre pressure , i did realise i was down on air only coz of the handling n wen i checked , bingo down 10psi on both wheels ... i fill from the same bunk so if it reads 33psi when i fill n go back there n it reads 23psi ... no prob with bunk
@dude_phenom : i had it checked by the method u've suggested , but i don't know how to check for a faulty valve , could u elaborate on that ...
fuel gauge well , it reads ok now , as usual it has a mind of it's own ...
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

4th Service Report
Just completed my Fourth Free Service.
Kms done : 3793
Jobs done : Just chain lube. Battery checking and other general checkup
Didnt change the oil as I had put in a FS last service.
Place : Pacer Motors.
Job was decent as usual.
And BTW the replacement parts HAVE come to Pacer. I'm guessing they would have come to all other Bangy dealers too. The affected models are FZ16, FZ-S and Fazers 2009 models.
But the Speedos havent yet come. The Torsion spring, return spring and push lever have come. And confirmed that they are all for the gear shift mechanisms.
But here's the bad news. My bike just missed out on the serial numbers.
It was the batch previous to mine
So Nand you might wanna check out the dealer if your bike needs to get those.Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

Here's the funda. If there is no obvious leakage from the side wall and the surface (and since you are leaking a lot in a short duration there has to be a place where it leaking big), the only other places that I can think of is the valve and (god forbid) the rim.
To check the valve you have to remove the black stopper and try to form a thin film of water over the opening (hence rubbing the opening with a wet finger). if you observe a bubble forming there is a leak.
And you might want to check the rims themselves for any fractures or holes.
And hope that you dont find any. Repairing a Rim would be painful. (Atleast more painful than a tyre.)Last edited by dude_phenom; 06-24-2010, 08:50 PM.Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
