Hey Kinshuk, even I am using the new FZ16 just 2 months old, I would like to let you know that the LCD Backlight is 'ON' only when you switch 'ON' pilot lamp or head lamp. So I think this is a new modification in new FZ16 w.r.t to electrical.

                1) Under what conditions does it backfire? If it's while going down/up steep slopes you will face this problem sometimes, but as far as I know it's nothing to worry about.

it backfires randomly meanin i havent payed close attention but it happens when i leave the accecelorater and again accelorate
                when the bikes stationary

                2) I think you mean rear tail light. This is usually on if the pilot lamp is on. Either adjust your brake switch (as instructed in the manual, it's a simple job and you can do it to your satisfaction rather than the service guy's) This may well be the problem since you've got complaints about the rear brake as well. If not, could be a bit more serious electrical issue best left to your service.

yea ill tell him my service is due day after

                3) The whole bike's red parts at least are made of ABS plastic, so this does not apply. There are certain places on the bike which will begin showing signs of rust such as the number plate holder, or parts which have had paint peeled off due to a fall. The metal bits can be touched up at your service centre but the plastic bits can only be replaced. Secondly, if you live in a humid area, putting your bike cover on the bike immediately after use can cause condensation which will accelerate, not prevent, rust.

no the red parts paint is peeling off meanin i have had an accident but the paint which is missin is not due to that for sure you can make out very easily
its like a company defect kinda thing

                4) Get it adjusted at the service centre, alternatively sit on a friend's no-problem FZ and compare to troubleshoot.

will try cus i dnt knw many others wid bikes
                where u from in mumbai

                5) They need regular tightening if you take your bike on bumpy roads or after a fall. The service centre people tend to loosen and fold them for storage when you give your bike for service, you have to ensure you have them adjusted to your requirements again. There is a locknut under the mirror, but none of the tools in the toolkit will fit in there unless you remove the mirror assembly first. I advise doing this instead of getting a mech to adjust it because I've had my paint scratched this way. Also, you might want to get radium reflector strips on the mirrors, I've found that they help people from knocking into them at night and loosening the bolts.

where do i get there radium thingis from and how much will they cost
( im totally outta cash spent a bomb on my helmet you wont believe if i tell u how much and my dads super pissed )

                6) If you have stored your bike for a long time without using it, carbon will build up on the fuel sensor; your console may not necessarily be the problem. Get this cleaned by the SVC.
                define long time

                7) not sure what you mean about the headlights
i got them changed so not a problem
( but just 2 explain the reflectors developed blak spots on them)

                8) The sides lose their colour after falls or if you hit something...
both sides have lost their colour and its only fallen on 1 tht also got tht replaced with a new 1

                9) What is your bike's running and are you changing the oil frequently? Both these should solve stiffness issues while shifting. I found my bike loosened up after about 3k kms.
i took delivery in mid feb and iv done bout 3000 kms till date
its not much i know but it was fine after the 1st service then again its become stiff

                10) This sounds a lot like a bent rim. Your ride quality may have suffered due to the bends, and therefore you feel there's something wrong with the shocks. Take three fingers and run them on the edge of the rims where the alloy meets the tyre. Do it on both sides, ie 2 sides of the front and 2 of the rear. If you feel any unevenness, then your rim is bent and needs to be replaced. The front rim costs around Rs 2000 and the rear Rs 2500 (Mumbai). If you live in Mumbai go to the Kamla Yamaha parts depot because everyone else is #^*^% out of stock. Bends would also explain your tyre pressure problems.
dude im bankrupt atm my bike is still in warranty cant they do it for free in the service ??
i always go to lower parel only sunmill compound right and tht guy took 3 months to change my headlights and hes the one who told the backoffice that i refuse to come to the service center (after goin 6 times for my headlights) when he never called only and when he calls me at 11 o clock he dosent reach for an hour so i left

HTH and back to lurking for me.

Dunno, then get it checked at SVC. You can try going to the Malad shop because I've heard they're very good. I can't vouch for them though. Excellent at Mahakali does good work too.

no the red parts paint is peeling off meanin i have had an accident but the paint which is missin is not due to that for sure you can make out very easily

You get them at Milan subway. But be VERY careful to ensure they reflect light at night. It's the same stuff they use for rim tapes. Go shopping there ONLY at night only to confirm or they WILL cheat you. The name of the shop is Rafiq arts. There are similar places down the road also. You shouldn't have to pay more than 50 bucks. I think I paid Rs 30 total for both mirrors. You may be able to haggle.

                    define long time

Depends, can be a few weeks or more.

How many services have you had? By now you should have completed at least three or four. Remember as regards to service intervals, it's not only about mileage but also about the gap of time in months. In any case, I'd say oil change time.

dude im bankrupt atm my bike is still in warranty cant they do it for free in the service ??

i always go to lower parel only sunmill compound right and tht guy took 3 months to change my headlights and hes the one who told the backoffice that i refuse to come to the service center (after goin 6 times for my headlights) when he never called only and when he calls me at 11 o clock he dosent reach for an hour so i left

Try Malad in that case. I've found the people at Sunmill more helpful. If you're on a budget then your only option is to increase the frequency of tyre pressure checks and perhaps get the rim beaten out... I've heard there's a guy at Mahim who does a good job but I don't have details. Remember, when the bike leaves the factory the wheel circumference is set by computer so nothing will be as perfect as that. It is also unsafe to ride with bent rims. Also, I *happen* to have 2 extra bent rims from my bike which are not leaking air BUT will not fix your ride quality problem. If you want, I can sell them to you. They also have only around 3k kms on them before I replaced them. PM me with a quote if you want the rims.

Another thing... after I bent my rims I kept a philosophy in mind which might help you. If you see potholes and are doing good speed, you have two options:

                    1) Slam your brakes and wear them out
                    2) Bend a rim

In all cases, choosing break wear is usually cheaper Of course, be sure there's no one behind you... and this still assumes you've actually seen the pothole to begin with.

                    All the best.

                      • My bike has been acting weird these days..... last service, the mechanic told me my battery needs replacement n its dead.... went to a battery shop, added water battery n said it will be ok.... pushed the bike on 2nd gear for some time then the self start was working as normal.... for some weeks, the self wasnt working... checked the battery n it was ok... now its not working again... opened the right side panel n next to the battery, theres an electronic device which connects to the starter and +ve terminal of the battery, i short circuited the device and the bike self started... note that i did open the switch set for starting and cleaned it, tried short circuiting the self start button but not working...

                        What could be the problem???

He will patch it from inside tomorrow. Only temporary fix. Gotta change soon. What all are the other options out there for FZ??? Saw many in communities/forum. Not sure which one to go.

                          My requirements :
                          Max budget 3k.

                          Tubeless.
                          Hard compound.

I love tubeless, I can get home late safe. Only hate part is 100 bucks for a puncture and difficult to get good puncture repair guys.

Ouch! sad to hear that buddy.. it feels terrible if your bike takes a hit without any fault of yours.. I'm no expert to guide you on your query, but I hope you get it back in shape soon.. :|

On that note, I'd like to share an incident that happened today..

Since that day I've got my NightFury, I have been filling the tank in limited quantities to gauge the fuel efficiency.. and as I had been reporting, it had been around 45kmpl so far..

Two days back, when I hit reserve, I filled the tank for 100 bucks (1.78 liters) and reset the trip meter.. today I was returning to my home(Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai) from my office (Powai), was running on 80kms on the trip meter and was expecting to hit reserve any moment.. to my surprise, I crossed 90kms and it was still running smooth.

I was trying to calculate the mileage in my head while crossing the Airoli signal then suddenly an FZ-S zipped past me.. and me being me, picked up a race with the guy n he too joined in... I overtook him and at Rabale chowki and moved on, after 2 kms or so, he overtook me again as I got hampered by a moving truck.. we both had to slow down at a speed breaker and I was about to take him over, and suddenly.... .... .....

in the middle of the road...

the engine died.. the bike stopped..

I tried restarting it, but it did not.. I suddenly got reminded of the reserve knob.. turned and tried again.. ... no avail.. I was shocked, didnt know what to do or what happened..

I dragged the bike to one side of the road and checked the fuel tank again under the light of my cell phone.. i couldnt see much fuel in, but then I thought, it should've had some petrol in reserve, why didnt that work..? then.. I checked the knob again.. and realized.. I was running my bike on reserve itself after refueling.. I noticed the trip meter.. it was on 98kms.. and it all started making sense in a moment..

I was getting happy for no reason at all.. the fuel efficiency was not increasing but it was the reserve fuel that kicked in that I didnt know of..

Lesson learnt.. if its too good to be true, it probably isnt.. :P

                            What happened after that..?
I dragged my beloved NightFury to the nearest Petrol Pump which was lucky just 500mts away..

it seems MRF revz is the only thing available in 140/60. Lots of options in 140/70. Thinks its safer for rims too.
