WD-40 or NO WD-40
Hey Eshan, I read that WD-40 should not be used for lubricating chain...Here: Motorcycle Chain Lube and the Grunge Brush - webBikeWorld ....there are other articles & there is a debate... in fact few bicycle owners are also not recommending WD-40 as chain cleaner....just wanted to know if it's a myth or truth?...I use Motul, chain cleaner & chain lube...for O-Ring...both have worked perfectly for the first time...haven't yet cleaned it again...but anyway it depends on what one feels right...but may be I'll switch back to kerosene soon.....Originally posted by Eshan-P180 View Post

My daily ride is not more than 15KM, and during some weekends will hit some 100 KM.

Even I have kept the rpm down below 4.5K and just once I reached 70km/hr ,I dont remember the RPM but surely it would have been above 4.5K.
My riding is similar to yours very less on week days and around 40 or more on sundays.

The showroom there is a pretty good one, they showed me crash guard for FZ which they claimed to be original Yamaha accessory. I went for it around 450 bucks including taxes after taking advice from "kochumvk" They also showed me levers ( painted metallic blue) for clutch and front brakes which they said were imported from japan and each of them will cost 1400 !!
God.. 2400 for clutch and front brake levers !!!
Owner of the showroom told me Yamaha will be launching a new 250 cc bike and will be available in the market with in 6-7 months, and he assured that it will be cheaper than the CBR

Kochu suggested you the crash guard?Originally posted by Rajeesh View Post. Anyway the those brake and clutch lever are official accessory and are much much stronger and better looking thn the stock ones.they come in silver and gold too.
Stock should last abt 15-16k,depends on use too.you will feel the diff. when it starts to wear out, check it when servicing evry now and then.Originally posted by yamahafazer View PostAfter riding how many kilometres should one for a clutch wire change ,I am riding a Yamaha Fazer !
Mine lasted 12 k and i chngd since i had some long tours.Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

yup.. when they showed me crash guard fitted to an FZ and asked me if I wanted one, I made a call to Kochu and he told me to go ahead.Originally posted by RanjithMN View PostKochu suggested you the crash guard?

.
yes.. those levers are amazingly good looking.. they also had the engine guard made of fiber, But I didn't want one since it will affect the naked look of the bike

I personally use WD40 for cleaning chain....it does advice not to use it for lubing.....but for cleaning it is the best you can get....you should see the dirt dripping down from main stand when the bike is in gear and on main stand.....all the dirt is gone and removed very well with WD40...after cleaning the chain becomes dry within 10minutes or 15 minutes max.....now you need to lube it for protecting the clean dry chain against corrosion and dirt.....Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostHey Eshan, I read that WD-40 should not be used for lubricating chain...Here: Motorcycle Chain Lube and the Grunge Brush - webBikeWorld ....there are other articles & there is a debate... in fact few bicycle owners are also not recommending WD-40 as chain cleaner....just wanted to know if it's a myth or truth?...I use Motul, chain cleaner & chain lube...for O-Ring...both have worked perfectly for the first time...haven't yet cleaned it again...but anyway it depends on what one feels right...but may be I'll switch back to kerosene soon.....
At times you can make use of OKS chain spray which is a cleaner and lubricant in all...i mean you dont get to see the chain is clean unless you wash it next time but yes under that thick layer of lubing the chain is clean and free from dirt!!!
Kerosene is there but you need a brush too..and then starts the backache and time consuming process....instead put your vehicle on mainstand...engage the bike in 2 or 3rd gear and spray WD-40 for complete two rotations and see how dirt and unwanted materials start dripping!!!!

disk brake engaging
Right from when I bought the bike, my front brake is always a little engaged. Is it the same for all ? can we adjust the brake or something by ourselves?I've told the SVC about this problem each time i gave the bike , but there is no improvement.
Is it safe to give the bike a complete wash by spraying water from a hose(but keeping it away from the speedo and healight area)? Will it create problems like water getting into the engine/carburettor/starter motor or something?

yes....but WD-40 still not sure... :
I use the same procedure but first I apply the cleaner keep bike running in the 1st gear for sometime (5-10 mins) then stop the bike, use brush to clean the chain & then again start the bike, run in 1st gear & spray the cleaner till it starts dripping. Then clean the chain with clean cotton cloth & apply the lube..It doesn't take much time just 30 mins or so...Originally posted by Eshan-P180 View PostI personally use WD40 for cleaning chain....it does advice not to use it for lubing.....but for cleaning it is the best you can get....you should see the dirt dripping down from main stand when the bike is in gear and on main stand.....all the dirt is gone and removed very well with WD40...after cleaning the chain becomes dry within 10minutes or 15 minutes max.....now you need to lube it for protecting the clean dry chain against corrosion and dirt.....

I saw a thread which suggested to use the same procedure...
Regards to WD-40 I'm still in dilemma since plenty of people made a complaints...so I was thinking switching back to kerosene for cleaning since in my childhood I saw my brother & his friends cleaning the chain with kerosene..also no side effects...only problem it is now not easily available...Motul is good but little costly...
Any suggestions on the frequency of cleaning the chain...whenever I see the chain I felt like cleaning it...bitten by the NEW BIKE bug

Don't Worry Be Happy...
Hey Yuva, if it's the little brushing sound then don't worry...it there is a more friction then show it to SVC again...my front brake makes a little brushing sound but it is normal..check out the old threads...Originally posted by a_yuva View PostRight from when I bought the bike, my front brake is always a little engaged. Is it the same for all ? can we adjust the brake or something by ourselves?I've told the SVC about this problem each time i gave the bike , but there is no improvement.

Regarding washing you can give complete wash with a hose..I do that..complete bike including speedo & headlight area...after all we are going to ride the bike in the rain as well...that too without a covering the bike
....so don't worry about the water getting into the parts...but remember to let it dry in the sunlight..or clean it with a clean cloth (cotton / microfiber)...someone suggested to use vacuum cleaner (outlet) that is also a good idea & do not forget to clean & lube the chain after every wash....Keep checking old threads you will get a lot of useful info...
Cheers,

Yes even I had this problem on my fazer ,it wasnt solved completely ,the service centre guys just tried to decrease the stiffnesls, they told me that it will be ok with time .Originally posted by a_yuva View PostRight from when I bought the bike, my front brake is always a little engaged. Is it the same for all ? can we adjust the brake or something by ourselves?I've told the SVC about this problem each time i gave the bike , but there is no improvement.

Actually I discovered this problem when a friend of mine who owns a yamaha gladiator asked me to check the front wheel and I was really taken aback that even my bike had the same problem of the front wheel brakes being engaged.
And regarding washing your bike ,I dont think you should worry much as your bike is built to run during rains too .
