  • Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

I am having two issues with my fz.
    1. My bike is stalling very frequently. It used to randomly stall at low rpm since my 3rd service 2years ago. (when riding in heavy traffic) but now its stalling even at 3000rpm. Engine and exhaust feels hotter than it used to get before.
    2. Sometimes engine feels sluggish like its getting in the reserve tank Or fuel starvation. I have to use choke for 15-20 seconds to get the smoothness and power back again.
    What could be the problem?

2011 model 11500km done. Using yamalube semi synth 15w50. Svc never cleaned or serviced my carb till date.

You seem to ne running the bike on lean mixture.

      Check for following:

      1) The condition of spark plug, spark plug cap.
      2) If the spark plug cap is receiving proper current or not.
      3) Clogged air filter.
      4) Water in petrol tank.

The rear hub is making "takar takar" noise when I rotate it with hand. When engaging in 1st gear and allowing it to rotate, don't hear any noise. Also, the noise doesn't come when rotating it at the same point again, have to rotate the wheel fully (clockwise or anticlockwise) and the noise comes. Chain has proper slackness, cleaned and lubed today. Also, the rear sprocket doesn't rotate in circular pattern, it rotates slightly towards left and right respectively. Chain set has been changed around 6k kms back.

        What can be the issue?

First increase the idling RPM to 3k normally with the idling screw. Then using the air screw, change the RPM to maximum it can get. At this point, bring the idle RPM back to 1.2k with the idle screw.

            Hi all
I have a small query, my running is very low, i.e. about 3k kms a year. After reading a lot in xbhp, I want to use Full Synthetic oil. As FS oils last for 4-5k kms, it will be about 1.5 yrs for me to change oil.
So my question is what is the maximum time (irrespective of the kms) that I can use a FS oil.
P.S. - my mechanic says time doesnt matter, only kms matter. Furthermore dont suggest me to use mineral or SS as I hav used both and now want to use FS.

IMO you should be changing the oil every 4 months atleast. You can't keep it for 1.5 years for sure.

Just wanted to know because even if somebody goes wrong, he will be able to check, as his setting should be close (i.e +or- half a turn) even though his location is different.
Please Correct me if I'm wrong on the +or- half a turn for change of location thing.

The reason for the sprocket hub moving left and right is due to worn out Shock rear drive hub(The rubber damper). Change it and your are back to normal. It cost about Rs. 40.

                  Cheers,

That has been changed (all 4) after I noticed the sprocket moving here and there, still no change in sprocket movement.

When you changed to new ones. Was it difficult to insert the sprocket hub?.

To some extent, Yes. It wasn't going freely, had to hammer it a bit. The same happened at SVC and when I changed my rear tyre also.

Now this is the tricky part. The problem is that you who have hammered it after assembling the chain in the sprocket which leads to uneven insertion of the sprocket hub. In fact I struggled during my chain and sprocket change. What I did was I first assembled the sprocket hub on to the rear wheel after hammering it evenly. Then I assembled the chain. It is little difficult you would need one person to slant the bike a bit. Then only the sprocket will not have any left or right movement.

                          Cheers

Nopes brother, what I meant by hammering is that, the hub was fit first, with the rear wheel lying flat on the ground, after that the rear wheel was fitted back normally.

AFAIK, the rear hub has to be press fit and not clear fit. Else, the hub will have lot of play as time passes.

Any chance of mis-alignment while fitting the sprocket?

                            Cheerz!!

Ok the fitment done is the correct procedure. Check whether the Sprocket locking bolts are of the correct torque. And did you notice how the mechanic has tighten the locking bolts whether in a criss-cross fashion as that also can lead to misalignment of the sprocket.

                              Cheers,

I guess, I will have to remove the whole sprocket and fit it again.

                                Thanks for your suggestions.
