Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Xbhp app on my phone is acting strange so finally i logged in on my desktop and trying to give some information about my bike and my experience with it.
Before i was getting low mileage calculation(28 kmpl) and i recently came to know petrol was being stolen from my bike.I installed lockable fuel cock but now the thief damaged fuel tank lock. There is some dent on the cap and it gets opened with any key.Even with the key of cycle.
Now i am keeping my bike locked inside garrage.
Here are few pics of my bike.
My bike has done 66+k kms on the odo and the engine is still intact.
I got mileage of 42 kmpl with single liter of petrol.I got too surprised.I wasnt expecting more then 35 so agian i did test but
now i got 33.
Here is how i did the test.
When my bike went on reseve i set trip meter to zero.I travelled 23 km this way and filled 1 liter petro.Bike went on reserve when trip
was reading 42.xx kms.
I have set my carburator fuel screw to 3 and quarter rotation from the leanest possible point.I am afraid i am running too lean.
Then i set my carburator fuel screw to 3 and half rotation and did the test again but now i got just 33kmpl.
I dont know what was wrong on my test. Will do it again.
I am tooooo busy because of my college pressure.
So please tell me what is the factory recommended no of rotation (carburator fuel screw)for fz.Is 3.5 complete rotation ok?
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
While coasting downhill usually i pull clutch lever instead of doing engine breaking or shifting to neutral.Dont know if it does any harm to my clutch assembly but i think this
protects engine( i think engine breaking does some harm).
I tried coasting on neutral with engine running but while shifting to gear after coasting downhill gearbox make loud noise as if something was wrong.Though manual says to ride on neutral dont know why this happens .It has been so on every bike i tried.
So what would be better for bike?
Neutral or Clutch lever pulled or On gear?

Also avoid using neutral while coasting down 1st for safety purpose u'll be able to brake efficiently without locking ur tyres and 2nd u wont blow ur gear system while changing gear suddenly.......coasting down on gear doesn't have any impact on ur bike.. but changing gear from neutral suddenly while moving will surely have adverse effect on gear mechanism. U even mentioned it about the loud sound while changing gear. Even i used to do the same mistake until my frnds corrected me here.Last edited by vimal_hbk; 12-06-2013, 08:43 PM.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Long back once I read someone posted here about white smoke coming from Exhaust.
Anyone knows the reason for white smoke from exhaust?

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Hi,
Probably reasons for white smoke may be-
1) piston rings wore out and require replacement,
2) piston itself is damaged and may require replacement,
3) oil being consumed by the piston during consumption or the head may consume oil as well,
4) engine oil may have been reduced.
There may be other reasons as well for white smoke but its best to get it scrutinised by a svc mechanic from yamaha

Oil mixing in the combustion process. Can be broken piston ring, improper valve movement and all.
Get it checked if such a smoke is coming.
Cheers

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Sird.. What is the need to change the clutch? It has got no connection with busted engine block. There are many things in the list that are not required to be changed. How many kms has your bike done??
Looks like you are looking for whole new piston block. If honing can solve the issue. I would suggest you to go for that. It will save you loads of money.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Ok guys, need your inputs on this one -
Got the chain sprocket changed a month back and since then i have been noticing that, whenever i ride and slow down in any gear and if i accelerate again, i hear this strange tick tick tick sound coming from either the chain or the rear wheel area.
I went to the svc and the mech told me that since i hv a Dunlop Tuff tyre on the rear, the sound is normal as the new chain and setting have to get used to that tyre. Somehow dint agree wit him.
Secondly, when i apply the front brakes suddenly, again i hear the same tick tick tick sound coming from the rear.
To note that everythin was all good before the sprocket installation, so i believe something is either loose or its a sprocket problem or i guess something related to rubber bush as i read in the last few posts. Also, there is no problem with the bike in any way except for this tick tick tick sounds which really tick me off.
Anyone facing the same prob or can throw some light on this would be appreciated. Thanks and ride safe guys.

The tyre should not be a problem, whatsoever!Originally posted by Flybiker View PostI went to the svc and the mech told me that since i hv a Dunlop Tuff tyre on the rear, the sound is normal as the new chain and setting have to get used to that tyre. Somehow dint agree wit him.

I guess this sound is from chain slack or improper fitment of your sprocket (loose bits). Insist on the SVC to recheck things and if they play ignorant, try a trusted mech outside. Most times, these mechs take your query seriously and give you a solution. The biggest problem with most SVC guys is that they strictly go by the books and know nothing extra.BENEATH THE REMAINS.........

Ok thanks mate. I too believe that its due to improper fitment or slack.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostThe tyre should not be a problem, whatsoever!

As i am caught up on time this month, would visit the svc for servicing next month and then insist the mech to get the sprockets checked. Hoping that i dont get any chain related issue till then.
Also have been seeing your posts in many forums. Good to see ur effort and help to others.

To know from where is the tick tick sound coming, i would suggest you to do the following:Originally posted by Flybiker View PostOk thanks mate. I too believe that its due to improper fitment or slack.

1) Place the bike on centre stand.
2) Check the chain slackness.
3) Move the rear tyre with hand and notice from where is the sound coming.
If the above dosen't work, do the following:
1) Place the bike on centre stand.
2) Switch on the engine.
3) Engage the 1st gear.
4) Notice the chain movement and figure out where it is hitting.
5) Since you have done so much, clean and lube the chain
I think the chain is hitting the chain slider. Since you have recently changed the chain sprocket, chances of chain slack are minimal.
