Yaa i too have that type of noise...but in my case its coz of slacky chain banging against the swing-arm.......m concerned about the squeaky noise coming around suspension area...

also i observed today the links of my chain are in zig-zag (not aligned in straight) manner.....does it means its time to change the chain set?.....my bike's clocked 10500 kms

Yes, time to change the chain set.

Squeaky sound from rear? The squeaky sound comes generally from the front suspension. Get the rear suspension checked at SVC.

I too experienced the same problem ie, chain banging swing arm when clutch is released. The chain seems to go kaput after 10k kms. As advised by a member i got sprockets and chain replaced in previous svc , Mine had done 14.5k. Its time to get yours changed too i guess!

I barely changed my bike's chain and sprockets 18 months ago and my mechanic says its time to change them again, owing to the insane rainfall this season.

For a Mumbaikar who doesn't have a lot of riding, the life is a maximum of 2 rainy seasons. :P

I really don't get the connection between rainfall and sprocket wear, I can understand rusting of the chain, but this... did the mechanic give any explanation to this?

If you don't mind could you please share a picture of the sprockets?

As far as I know.. rain water does consist of acidic element. Hence. During prolonged rainy season, the sprockets stay in contact of rain water for a longer period pf time resulting in wearing of metal although a well lubricated chain on the other hand tends to go for a longer period..

The chain-set on our rides is to be replaced after 10-12k kms. Some get more life depending on their riding style.
but i don't think the rains can be 'this' acidic to damage the sprockets. Non lubrication of the chain can cause both chain wear as well as sprocket wear, but blaming the rains

                Ride safe and have fun.

Happens bro, happens! Me and Sanchit were having a similar discussion few pages back. I was shocked to find out that my chain needed a replacement within 7k kms, pure sign of monsoon taking a toll on it. Regular maintenance is what it calls for but unfortunately I do not have much liberty to spend time with my bike due to work. So it was obvious that the chain would give up.

                  Sad but true!

mine is also up for replacement after 11k kms, 2nd change in 23k kms.
looks like unless lubing is done everyweek, the sprockets are gonna be killed..

We are learning the hard way, man!
This is one problem prevalent with open chain systems. Now I lube my chain every now and then ~400-500 kms and cleaning will soon happen as you might be aware that I have recently changed it. [preventive maintenance ]

Hey buddy, can you please let me know how actually do you clean the chain and what do you use for lubrication? A member here suggested me to clean the chain with kerosene using a brush and lube it with EP90 gear oil! Usually people spray chain lube and its a easy process, but a mechanic told me that the EP90 gear oil lubricates better than spray and lasts long

Problem is not really with the acidic rains.. everyday after returning home we keep the unlubricated chain that way overnight which speeds up the corosion.
Best is to keep it lubricated by various brands of chainlube available:
Oks chain spray, tvs chain spray,
Some even use ep90 gear oil, motul chain spray

What you say is right. EP90 gear oil is effective and lasts longer and the method you posted is the easiest way out. However, kerosene is hard to find and WD-40 does the job. Besides, some members have used diesel too and claimed it to be equally effective. I have not tried brands like 'muc-off' - User reviews are on the positive side but it comes with a hefty price tag.

Periodic lubing is with the gear oil.

You can use kerosene, Motul Chain Cleaner to clean the chain. After cleaning it thoroughly, use Gear Oil EP90 to lubricate the chain. Do this every 400-500kms in normal weather and at 200-300kms during rainy season.

                              Cheerz!!

The chain is not to be lubricated everyday. It is true that rains take a toll on the chain and sprocket life. The mud and muck which splashes on the chain speeds up wearing process. The case is different in other season.

Yup oviously not everyday though my previous post lookd like that.
Periodic interval of 300-700kms depending upon rain, usag can be done as mentioned

                                Hi,
You can use a toothbrush, diesel or kerosen or chain cleaner available... 1) centre stand
                                2) get a spray kind of a thing n fill it up with cleaner- kerosn or diesel,
                                3) spray the cleaner evenly throughout the chain
                                4) let the dirt come out clean, use toothbrush for that stuck muck,
                                5) let it dry for atleast 20 or 30 mins
                                6) spray it with the preferred lube.
