I believe there was also a change in sprocket ratios.

    • The differences are old uni had spokes, ordinary filter and 1 tooth less rear sprocket.
The new one has alloys, viscous air filter, and 1tooth extra rear sprocket.
Btw my 05 uni is running on the new sprocket coz the old one is hard to find now. Planning to put the viscous air filter too, any idea if it fits in the old uni?

sprocket change was for 2007 uni over the original 2005 model. There is no change in sprockets afterwards i guess.

I own a 2010 model(last lot of non cb uni!)
vibration issue, being a 150 any minor problem may result in abnormal vibrations after 80kmph, i have experienced it when my bike was not in 'full fit'. I have past 100kmph with pillion on top(both >70kgs) in straight road with negligible wind blast in relaxed posture, running on shell 10W-40 SS(almost 2k kms old!) and was properly warmed up and experienced NO vibes.

I own a cb unicorn. I often touch 120kmph. No such issues. Of course, its not as butter smooth as it is when you're doing 60-70kmph. But nothing to be concerned about.

Being on the right gear at the right time is equally important for a better fuel efficiency and also be in the power band. While i know your bike is relatively newer and your engine is not free. So you will experience coarseness when riding at high speeds.

Let me remind you, Honda says that do not accelerate suddenly and also avoid high RPM's. To what you have mentioned looks like you are shifting gears at very less RPM.

I don't want to interfere with the way you ride, as i know the pressure that you must be to complete the run in period, but try shifting gears at 4000 RPM.

When on the slope i am sure your bike must be around 2k to 2.5K RPM. How can you be comfortable. You have to downshift. Avoid unnecessary strain on the bike engine.

Coming back to another issue. Bike stalls when choke lever is pulled off. Start your bike in the morning normally. Let it idle for 3 minutes. After the engine is relatively warmer, look at the RPM its idling. If you closely look at your RPM meter you will see that every 1000 RPM is divided by 2. So when your engine is warmer after 3 to 5 minutes of idling, then set the RPM to 1400 RPM. Please check your user manual to find the idling screw. That means the RPM meter should cross 1000 K and then 2 lines after that. That makes it 1400. Manual suggest the same. 1400 [+- 100]. After that see if it makes a difference.

Remember to do it only when your engine is warmer and not when it is hot. Read the owners manual carefully as most of the things that i told you is all in the owners manual.

Lets not get the carb setting changed yet. I found my idling was set incorrectly when i got my unicorn.

            Happy riding.
Thanks for your reply..I'd been on a holiday to recharge my batteries :P

Now after I returned yesterday, the bike started with just one kick and that too without the choke ... I was so surprised...later in the evening the bike wouldn't start at all...and when it did, I had left the choke on for a good few minutes and after I cut off the choke, I faced the same out of petrol behavior from my bike..(and I've almost full tank petrol).. why could this be happening?

And regarding the gear shifting, yes I do tend to change gears around 3k+ mark..and I always like to put the bike in 5th gear and drive at 40-60 kmph..I don't know if I can change it since it was the same with my pulsar which I'd used for nearly 5 years...but will this habit of mine damage the engine or anything on the Uni?

My RPM is certainly very low cos each when the engine is started (without choke, and when its completely cooled), the RPM meter struggles to get to the 1k mark..and after idling for about 3 minutes, it hits 1.2 k mark (I do know that each line on the meter corresponds to 200rpm )

should I change it? and if so, then how? I don't have my manual with me (the showroom guys didn't have it in stock and promised to give it when I went there for 1st service )

Dude. You got more experience than I do. You had an Bajaj Pulsar for 5 years. I didn't had my driving licence for that long. Kindly write into Honda by visiting Honda India website. They will reply back with the manual in the PDF format. You will get all your answers there.

                • Honda CB Uniciorn Engine Oil

                  Hi Guys,

I had just been to the Honda ASC for my 3rd free servicing. To my surprise Honda Service center reps told me that now Honda advises users to use 10W30 oil in their Unicorn.

I told them that on the manual 20W40 is suggested. They told me that its thinner and will give you a better performance. I did not change the oil as i have ridden 500 kilometers after an oil change. I called my friend who suggested me not to use 10W30 oil when Honda suggests 20W40 oil in Unicorn.

                  Your expert comments please

Stick to 20W40 oil.10W30 is lighter which may make the acceleration very slightly quicker, but it wont be even noticeable.10W30 oil will deteriorate faster and will end up in overheating engine during long runs. With 20W40 oil ,engine will run cooler, smoother gearshifts, etc,No loss in performance.

                    Yamalbe 20W40 SL

are very good mineral oils tried and tested by many users and cost's less than 300rs.

Thanks buddy for the instant reply. I thought so that 10W30 would not be a good option and you just confirmed that. Thanks again.

                      • Honda CB unicorn OIL

I received a Call from Honda [Delhi] as i had posted my query on their website. They told me that 10W 30 should give you a better performance and its good for the engine. Will increase the durability as well.

So this confirms that HMSI has initiated this change. I will still stick to 20W 40 only

good decision. If I may add a note to you.

Use the 10w30 during winter months i.e sept-feb and get back to using 20w40 from mar-aug since in summer months we need a better grade oil than 10w30.

                          • Can some one please tell me how to check whether the mono shocks are still effective or they have gone kaput? i am asking this query bcoz the rear tends to dive a little more than expected when i push it towards the ground. My unicorn has clocked around 17k kms.

                            Thanks

                            • One query

I have recently purchased a new Uni, got it this Feb only.
I notice a squeaking sound coming from the back wheel; especially during braking.
I have told the service center people, but even after 1st service the sound persists.
                              Any suggestions??
