I will try to enquire about a dealer who can replace both tyre himself with proper equipment, else I need to get help outside(HSC/Local).

Coming to tyre balancing, I am yet to find a shop who does wheel balancing for two wheeler tyres, so keeping my fingers crossed to find one soon.

        Respected Owners & Members,

Is that Contigo 110/70 R17 still available here ? Or they shut down the Production ?

I like to ask - If Contigo not available anymore - What is the alternative other than Michelin Pilot Street Radial ?

I'm looking for Hard Compound (just like Contigo) Front tire...(as I'm a city crawler) running Michelin Pilot Sporty in last 6 months and clocked 3k Kms with that, but recent bike fall due to oily surface made me think to replace the front tyre which is now 4 years old 21K kms.

Please suggest which tyre belongs from MRF/Michelin/CEAT belongs to the Category of stock Contigo ? I want a puncture less long life tyre.

P.S:- Already place order for contigo 2 weeks ago, but my trusty Tyre Shop not able to source one till now - hence this post.

No You dont need an extra radiator Guard. I have been riding with the stock radiator since 25K kms. Just use a toothbrush to clean it after muddy rides... Extra guard means you are clogging the airflow, which might have an adverse effect.

I am not sure of the price, since I had the plates removed from my old Duke, lying around. Should be in and around 150 bucks~

Frame sliders are a good option they protect the bike's side panels just in case of a spill. Radiator guard too is advisable but not really a necessity. My personal summation on not getting a radiator guard are.

Firstly, I wasn't able to find guard that was designed with big air flow pockets, all those that are around are either too costly and the front air intake design wasn't that much great.

Secondly, CBRs radiator is pretty much a dirt magnet, no matter what it always has some crud. My suggestion would be to leave the radiator without the radiator guard, as it helps in cleaning the radiator then and there, plus aids in visual inspection of the condition of the radiator i.e. bent fins, stuck stones, and what not.

Plus I find the naked radiator kinda sexy, makes it feel like you're riding a super sport.

                  Cheers!

                      Hi mate,

in my humble opinion, Frame sliders are nothing but a waste of money and they do a lot more damage then what is advertised in the real world. As far as i am aware of there are two types of frame sliders: Engine mounted and Chassis/frame mounted. In case of chassis mounted frame sliders, what a lot of us don't take into consideration when bolting on such after market kits is that if and when the unthinkable happens: the whole load of the impact is transferred directly to the frame instead of the fibre panels as designed by the manufacturer: which will damage it quite seriously.

An example of a friend of mine using a chassis frame slider on his CBR 250R right after a low sider should clear things out:

Pic 1: Bent frame due to a low sider and the Frame slider transferring the whole impact to the Chassis of a CBR 250R.

The image above will give one a clear picture of what happens in case of an accident where the frame sliders which are actually supposed to save the bike: ends up damaging it. Now if the accident would have taken place at a higher speed, the chassis in the picture above would have taken a severe beating. A motorcycle chassis by design, has been made to flex and yet be rigid at the same time when riding. When such impacts take place on the orginial chassis: it greatly reduces the integrity of it and as a result will hamper it from doing its job properly. In the case above, the impact took place at a comparatively lower speed hence, the rider can still ride his CBR without spending anything on repairs. Incase of a major accident, you are going to foot quite a bill due to these frame sliders.

Another point to take into consideration:

                      * Cost of a frame slider from reputed brands like R&G etc.: 6 - 8k
                      * Cost of a new chassis in case of a severe impact/damage: 13 - 15k (including labour and excluding parking charges in the SVC)
                      * Cost of a side fibre panel: 1.5 - 1.8k (each side)

If you do the math, common sense tells me it is much more cheaper to replace a scratched or a damaged fibre panel then taking a chance with the Chassis. As far as Engine mounted Frame sliders are concerned i would say an absolute NO to it!! It is like pointing a shotgun to the heart of your bike while keep the trigger happily on the other side. in short do the right thing and save money for the fibre panels instead of spending on frame sliders.

Hope my views are taken in the right spirit

                        Cheers,
I've dropped the bike a couple of times at >10 kph and found no damage to fairing.
With regards to risk to chassis, its a very important cost/benefit analysis you've pointed out.

There isn't nothing important per se such as after-market accessories, perhaps you can get yourself a paddock stand which comes in handy to lubricate your chain and is of great boon when it comes to washing the bike. Apart from that, everything else is just money spent on the drain. A tankpad is a must, and you can get very good tankpads from eBay. I've bought several pads from eBay and all are worth the buck. Don't go for el cheapo ones, they are just vinyl, look for good quality tankpads in the range of 400 to 500 you get good deals.

                          • Exhaust upgrade for a CBR250.

Hey guys! I've been riding a CBR250 for about 4 years now, and am getting pretty bored with the exhaust note. Planning to go in for an exhaust upgrade. Checked out the Leo Vince cobra and the yoshimura. I love the way the cobra sounds and looks, but also like the way the yoshimura peaks! In a dilemma now, could any owners shed some light on both? And since these exhausts are typically free flow ones, does the ecu need to remapped to adjust the FI?
P.S: I live in Chennai, and got no clue where ECU remaps are done.

                            TIA!

                            • Engine Oil Vanishing!

Hello Guys, the oil level when checked on my friend's CBR was surprisingly low. The bike was taken on a 9 day long ride covering 3000Kms, all plains (Rajasthan) and was serviced just before that.

Other than that the bike is very less often used in the city and is parked in garage. There are no signs of oil leakage of any sorts, neither we noticed any oil seepage from engine head.

Took it to the service center, the mechanic as usual was clueless, but to be on the safer side, we purchased a new bottle and topped up the oil. It took nearly 400ml.

Now the question is that, is it normal for the engine oil being consumed? It comes as a surprise to us. And even if the engine oil is being consumed, 400ml in just 3000Kms?

Is it a normal behavior? Or is something wrong?

I am attaching the image of engine oil level, barely any. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S - There is no white/black smoke coming out of the exhaust, on revving it hard too.

That is an insane amount of oil getting evaporated.
Did you have a look into the coolant level ? Is it terribly low ? For oil to evaporate the engine must have been working at a very high temperature, but 400ml ? That is too much, do keep tabs on the oil level for a few days, vary the riding style , and check for drop in levels.
If it still happens, then you should inspect the engine for any valve/ piston ring related damages. Yes I did read about the no smoke on revving part, doesn't matter, it's better to reach to the bottom of the issue first.

                                Cheers
